  1. Everyone is wondering about his bat going forward. I am unsure how long he can sustain his defense. After age 30 a player's defense can slide pretty quickly.
  2. Any history of the spitball that ignores Negro League pitchers is lacking.
  3. If they are going to move anyone it should probably be a trade of Carlos Correa to a large market team. Keep Lewis and Lee in the infield where they are most valuable. Lewis in LF loses 1 WAR per season in value.
  4. Is anyone keeping track of how many ways Twins Daily participants can spell DeSclafani? Just in this thread I've seen: DeScalfina, DeSlafini and DeScalfani. I was spelling it DeSclafini for a while. I'm sure I've seen DeScalfini and DeScalfani. It's pretty entertaining.
  5. This team cannot give extensions to 30+ year old players, compete AND run a $120M payroll. Give the extensions to Jeffers and Duran instead.
  6. I do not expect Balazovic to end the offseason on the 40 man roster. They will keep looking to upgrade that spot if possible.
  7. Nice job anytime you can get someone who looks decent for that cheap. Make the kids earn their way up.
  8. Guys get injured and lose effectiveness more often than they learn a new pitch and gain effectiveness. Some people will have good seasons, some people will have bad seasons. Expecting ALL your players to have their best season is a terrible plan.
  9. They don't have a long-term TV deal so I don't expect them to add any long-term contracts. I don't really understand why they signed Carlos Correa if they were going to cut costs two years later.
  10. This is like saying that all an NFL team needs is a top 5 QB. Ace pitching is the scarcest commodity in baseball and teams that can produce it from the minor leagues have a huge advantage. That means consistently trading veteran players for promising pitching talent.
  11. The Twins don't have anyone especially young in their rotation. Lopez 28, Ryan 28, Ober 28, Paddack 28, Varland 26, DeSclafani 34. They're all at the "it's unreasonable to expect better" age. Some will have better years than others but it's really unlikely they all improve. Festa and Woods Richardson are the age where you could reasonably expect improvement.
  12. Hoping everyone gets better is a really terrible plan.
  13. Santana might be the starting 1B for most of the season. The most likely outcome for Miranda and Kirilloff is more injury plagued disappointment.
  14. they negotiated the worst TV rights deal in all of Major League Baseball. Somehow they got a deal worse than Cleveland even though they were in exactly the same situation.
  15. If the Twins ownership can't generate revenue equivalent to their market size they should probably sell to someone who knows how to run the business better. Or, am I just supposed to accept continued incompetence and gladly hand over public subsidies? Part of the deal handing them public money to build Target Field was they were supposed to spend it to field a competitive team. If they refuse to do that I have every right to call them out on their deception. That money had strings attached to it. If they don't like that arrangement they can slash payrolls and give back the public money.
  16. I think Montgomery would make Heaney expendable.
  17. There is a good chance Santana plays more games than Polanco in 2024.
  18. They won't spend on pitchers when they're free agents so their only chance to sign one long-term is before arbitration.
  19. I guess because Minnesota is an average sized MLB market. The point stands that they're cutting payroll 20% year-on-year and there is no way the team is seeing a 20% drop in revenue. Over half of their revenue comes straight from the league and that isn't decreasing. That would mean a 40% drop in local revenue year on year. They saw a 15% drop in revenue from the TV contract. Are they expecting attendance to collapse?
  20. I'm pretty sure they're done and that's the disappointing part. Signing Santana prevents them from signing anyone better. He's probably worth the $5M but that doesn't even buy you an average player anymore. They've cut payroll 20% from a spending level that wasn't even league average. They'd better spend some of that locking up young players like Jeffers and Duran.
  21. There's room on the roster but apparently not in the payroll.
  22. I wish Soto is as successful on the mound as Gooden but I hope his life turns out better than Dr. K.
  23. Got it. I don't do cable anymore so thanks for clarifying.
