  1. Is this whole argument that the team would be better off if the Pohlads had put an additional $2.75M in their pockets?
  2. Yes, I and I was trying to put it in context that league batting average is currently the lowest it has been since the 1968 "Year of the Pitcher". Since the American League started in 1901 the league batting average has only been lower than 2024 (so far) twice - 1968 and 1908. April has been one of the most anemic months for hitting in the history of MLB.
  3. I'll believe in Festa as a starter if he can pitch into the 6th inning in AAA. Right now he goes 4 innings and that's it for the day.
  4. They have to stretch Festa out past 60 pitches if he is going to have any chance to compete for a spot in the rotation this season.
  5. He was released 3 times. He signed a free agent contract each time he was released. He could have negotiated opt-out free agency when he signed (there is precedent for players from Japan). Nobody offered that because he wasn't that good. I seriously doubt anyone would have offered Thielbar $10M to pitch in 2024. Arb4 is usually pretty close to free agent value.
  6. Or just sign Brandon Belt. They're last in hitting but somehow don't have room for a guy who put up an OPS+ of 136 in 2023 (better than any Twin except Royce Lewis) and has a career OPS+ of 124.
  7. I think it is much more reasonable to try to get 2 innings out of Stewart when he relieves than to try to get 4 innings out of him as a starter.
  8. The starters are pitching 4 innings every 5 days. The relievers are pitching 2 innings every 3 days. Not that different.
  9. Thielbar signed as a free agent at ages 25, 31 and 32 because he had been released so he actually reached free agency quite young. He was not very good at age 30, that's why he hasn't made much money.
  10. Will Festa pitch more than 3 innings tonight? There is an opportunity if they let him compete for it.
  11. Signing Brandon Belt and releasing Santana is another option. They probably could have non-tendered Farmer and signed him for less ($3-4M) but not that much less. You're not getting a good starting pitcher for $6M. At that price the pitcher will be bad or injured or both. To get a good starting pitcher they needed to commit $50-100M.
  12. It is good that there are options to share the load. If Okert is rested he's probably the best option but having Thielbar and Funderburk lets them bring in a fresh arm instead of having Okert pitch back-to-back days.
  13. Bowman would have to be released. No options remaining. I don't know why they would bring Bowman up, sit him, then release him. They could have kept Tonkin instead if that was the plan.
  14. I hope to save that quote and throw it back at you for years to come.
  15. With Correa and Lewis both injured we should have seen the debut of Brooks Lee. Unfortunately that will have to wait a little longer.
  16. I expect they will need both of them and probably more to get through the season.
  17. I like Okert, he's been good and they control him for two more seasons after this one. They didn't give Nick Gordon away for nothing.
  18. Another good example of why WPA is a total garbage stat. Farmer lets a playable ball through and Jax gets all of the blame.
