  1. Michael A Taylor would be a fine addition to the bench but he may still be looking for an every day opportunity. I don't think the price will come down far enough on the top free agents to get them to the Twins. I expect the Cubs, Angels, Giants and Yankees are still interested at prices higher than the Twins want to pay.
  2. Instead of offering knothole tickets (which is how I always saw a game as a kid) they decided shutting down the upper deck entirely was the better move.
  3. I think that's low. I see > $40M in his last two years of arbitration as a real possibility.
  4. Other teams are giving players long-term extensions with zero games played.
  5. If I was Royce Lewis I would actually prefer a 6 year deal to a 10 year deal. Hit free agency at age 30 and get my next big contract. The Twins would be able to give him a QO and recoup a draft pick at that age too.
  6. I expect to see Santana at 1B nearly every day. He's their best fielder and they didn't sign him to just face lefties.
  7. If they get into a bind that probably means someone is going on the injured list, which opens up the roster spot. Also, Willi Castro still has an option. Taylor is a better fit than Austin Martin. The projection systems have their expected contribution at the plate as basically even but Taylor is a much better fielder. That said, Taylor is probably worth less than $5M to the Twins.
  8. Santana is basically the same as playing Polanco at 1B, which was suggested by several here, but at half the cost.
  9. I would plan on Santana taking 1B since he rates much higher on defense than Miranda or Kirilloff.
  10. What does his arbitration schedule look like without an extension? That's essentially a team option every season for the next 5 years. The best 3B make $30M a season but those are free agent prices. Austin Riley is a better comp than Witt and he's getting 10 years $212M. He signed that deal closer to free agency than Royce and with better health and production in the seasons leading up to the deal. 10 years $180M would be my offer. That accounts for the extra season of pre-arbitration control the Twins have compared to Riley and the injury history.
  11. Jim Fregosi was a helluva ballplayer. The projections are right to expect Correa, Buxton and Lewis to drive this offense. It is more optimistic about Kirilloff than I am.
  12. I see Martin gets a 55 grade for speed which is about 28 ft/s. That's about as fast as Wallner and Royce Lewis and slower than Buxton and Castro.
  13. Taylor is going to have to decide whether he wants to be a starter for (for example) the Pirates or a backup for (example) the Twins. The money will probably be the same.
  14. I don't think any team has a single day where all 26 players at the top of the depth chart are healthy.
  15. Eventually the teams that value marginal wins at $10M run out of roster spots. Then you have to go to the mid-market teams that value marginal wins at $7-8M. Finally, you end up with teams that put little value on marginal wins because they aren't trying to win this year but are willing to sign free agents to 1-year deals hoping they can be moved for future value at the trade deadline.
  16. Boras auctions the players off one at a time. This allows him to maximize the dollars spent by not undercutting the top free agent with a different player who is a better value. Dutch auction - Wikipedia
  17. Plenty of off-days to start the season. I wouldn't worry about having a long reliever until the 4/11 road trip at the earliest.
  18. With most pitchers ERA projecting better than FIP it must be assuming good defense behind these pitchers.
  19. I remember some discussion that his growth plate in his elbow might not have completely fused. That may be just speculation. He is still really young and is probably not maxed out physically.
  20. I saw Balazovic and Duarte on the NRI invite list for spring training. I assume that means they cleared waivers.
  21. Why would the top of the rotation pitcher have to cost very little? The Twins would have $35M of payroll space available. I grant that it isn't easy to find a match. The Twins would have to find a team with a big budget, a hole at SS and a desire to rebuild quickly. The Giants and Red Sox fit that description. They would need to get Correa to approve the trade. Then they would need to either allocate that money to a free agent like Snell or Montgomery or find a team who wants to trade an expensive, top of the rotation starter. This all goes back to Brooks Lee. The Twins have a potential solution for a 2025 starting SS in AAA. They don't have anyone to take that spot at the top of the rotation sitting in the minor leagues.
  22. I saw another evaluator before the draft use Kyle Tucker as a comp. I think Jenkins is producing better than Tucker at the same age.
