  1. Buxton should be back in 3 days.
  2. I don't see anyone new getting a callup in September. Buxton, Correa and Lee are on the injured list. They get one extra spot. If all 3 come back in September then they need to send 2 players currently on the MLB roster to AAA. Most likely scenario is Lee and either Martin or Julien end up back in AAA. If they want to add a 3rd catcher then all three players will head to St. Paul with Camargo coming up to the Twins. If they need to add an infielder I think Diego Castillo is more likely than Eeles because they can remove Castillo from the roster in the offseason. They will want to stash Eeles off the 40 man roster this winter.
  3. There are only 40 spots on the roster. If you add someone like Keirsey or Eeles to "see what they can do" then you'll lose someone else forever.
  4. Will any of the minor league teams make the playoffs? It appears the Mussels have a chance. Wichita is unlikely but some of those players may get called up to St. Paul to finish the season.
  5. It may help Julien that he doesn't have to worry about too many different pitches for the reliever. He's been hitting fastballs and missing breaking balls. I agree that it is good that he is swinging rather than watching strikes go by when he has 2 strikes.
  6. Yes, and "among the top 10 shortstops in the American League" essentially means you're dead average.
  7. Wynton Bernard is a 33-year-old journeyman minor leaguer who is happy to be able to put on a uniform. He's not a prospect.
  8. Or the next Tony Kemp? Altuve was already a 2-time all-star at the age Eeles is now. Kemp had an 800 OPS in AAA at age 24. If he's somewhere between those two players, he'll have a decent career.
  9. Alex Kirilloff reminds me of Delmon Young. Both players were maxed out hitters in high school but not able to star at the highest level. They're also not elite athletes (compared to other major leaguers) so they don't contribute defensively.
  10. If you want to be a jerk and insult the Twins minor league coaching staff you can do it without bringing a particular player into the conversation.
  11. I am surprised they are promoting Culpepper with just a few weeks remaining.
  12. Speaking of only 3 weeks left in the season, are Fort Myers and Cedar Rapids going to make the playoffs? Are there any players from Wichita who could join the Saints for September (McCusker, Adams, Raya, Nowlin, Grace)?
  13. There's only 3 weeks left in the season for all levels below AAA. Keep them in Fort Myers through fall instructs.
  14. I can't think of any. I would be really surprised if anyone did this for a position player. If a player isn't good enough for your 26 man roster you non-tender them.
  15. How many teams keep an ARB2 salaried player just to stash him in AAA? All that maneuvering means is there is no reason to throw away an option on purpose.
  16. That's a shame. I think he's their best option at 2B and I don't think he will return more in a trade than he's worth to the team.
  17. Kirilloff is a bad defender at 1B. He can't hit lefties. Santana is a very good defender at 1B and beats the hell out of lefties. If there was going to be a platoon it would be Kirilloff/Santana. That was the plan out of spring training. Santana was brought in to be Kirilloff's caddy and gained more playing time because his defense is clearly better and Kirilloff could play LF when the OF was thinned out due to injuries and Wallner's poor play. Jose Miranda (another player coming off an injury plagued season) has beaten out Kirilloff for the 1B job, not Santana. Miranda has been a much better hitter (940 OPS vs RHP for Miranda, 663 for Kirilloff) and fielder (+2 RField vs -3) than Kirilloff. Larnach and Wallner are clearly superior options in LF since they also both field and hit better than Kirilloff. If Kirilloff wants to play for the Twins he needs to play better than Miranda, Larnach or Wallner. In the future he may also need to beat out Royce Lewis for the 1B job and that is quite unlikely to happen. Alex Kirilloff is buried on the depth chart. He is arguably the worst position player on the 40 man roster. The only reason I can think of to keep him is Kepler and Margot will both be gone and Keirsey is the only minor league outfielder who has a chance of being added to the 40 man roster. The Twins can option AK and keep him in the minors until injuries give him another opportunity. The problem with that scenario is that Kirilloff is more likely than not to be injured and unavailable when they need the depth.
  18. I will take the under on the Twins getting 22 more innings from Paddack this season.
  19. So the Twins should avoid signing better players in order to make their bad players feel more comfortable. Professional sports are competitive. Nobody has a guaranteed roster spot. Produce or you are gone.
  20. I think the option is their only hope of getting any trade return for Kirilloff. Nobody will want him if they have to put him on the 26 man roster.
  21. 40 man roster spots are finite. If they decide they like Canterino, a pitcher who never pitches because he is chronically injured, instead of keeping MacLeod or Adams that is the decision they will need to make. I would rather have the pitcher who actually pitches in games over the one who only throws in rehab sessions. If they keep Canterino over MacLeod or Adams then their talent evaluators believe that neither pitcher has a future in MLB. If they decide they like the long-term potential of Severino (who is blocked in MLB) over Olivar (a catcher, a position where they have no depth) that is another decision. For that matter they will need to compare Severino to the near-term value of Holland or Keirsey who both outplayed him in AAA. I assume they shopped Severino at the trade deadline to see what they could get. It is telling if no other organization will offer anything good in return for your prospect. Thielbar shouldn't get more than a minor league deal. He's having a bad season and turning 38 isn't going to make it better. Okert should probably get traded for cash or an A-ball prospect. The Twins need to upgrade their LH relievers, not stick with this underperforming group for another season.
  22. If that's true then I want the prospects from the big pocket team who rate better than the prospects the Twins would be willing to trade to acquire Paddack.
