  1. Paddack is the best trade bait in the Twins rotation and the spot that needs to be upgraded. I like the idea of sending Paddack to Texas in exchange for someone.
  2. I don't think they are done seeing what Brooks Lee could return in a trade. If he's off the 40 man roster and playing SS he's more valuable.
  3. Against LHP and the Twins won huge both games partly due to their contributions.
  4. The only thing interesting about WPA is the chart. Once it does the accounting to assign credit/debit to individual players incorrectly (and thanks for reminding me that it also ignores baserunning in addition to ignoring defense) it is useless.
  5. Farmer barely plays now that Lewis is on the team. Then there's the option of promoting Julien to take 2B instead of Lee. I'm not certain that promoting Brooks Lee makes the Twins noticeably better. He would need to post an OPS+ better than 110 or he'd be hurting the offense. His defense will take some work at 2B. The Twins infield is quite good already. Moving Castro to LF bumps Larnach or Miranda to the bench and they're both hitting pretty well.
  6. 78 wins should be enough for 3rd place and they already have 49. That's a 29-58 pace (.333) the rest of the season which is worse than the Rockies have played. I doubt they finish below .500, too many wins already in the books.
  7. The Twins can worry about 2029 later. Correa is the shortstop until then. Noah Miller should be available as a minor league free agent if they want him in 2029.
  8. What is your "eyeball test" on every other second baseman in baseball? It's important to determine what MLB average is at a defensive position before determining Julien is below average.
  9. Just think how good every draft would be if you could do it over with 5 years of hindsight.
  10. Sometimes being lucky is better than being good. He has an ERA of 6.58 in the big leagues and 7.33 in the minors. He's been bad far more often than he's been effective. The way to "use him correctly" is to move him back to the bullpen where the increased velocity makes him effective.
  11. The odds Brooks Lee comes up and immediately plays better than Willi Castro (or Royce Lewis or Carlos Correa) are quite low.
  12. The Twins got Wallner, Varland, Julien, Steer, Canterino, Headrick, Gipson-Long and Legumina out of this draft but by all means keep complaining about Keoni Cavaco.
  13. You may be the only person who sees Varland get destroyed by the Toledo Mud Hens and thinks "Promote this pitcher!". Edit - OMG, there's another!
  14. It's crazy that the A's are basically tanking the season and there are 3 teams with worse records than the A's.
  15. There are context-adjusted stats that do a much better job than WPA. Player Won-Lost Records is probably my favorite. https://baseball.tomthress.com/ That said, I'm not a believer in using context-adjusted stats to assess player value. It adds noise to the signal.
  16. Duran may be losing the closer job. I trust Jax a lot more in a close game at the moment.
  17. And it only applies that value to the batter and the pitcher while ignoring defense. I understand what WPA is. It is a total garbage stat. It should never be used outside of charting the context of run scoring during a game and any use of it to assign value to a particular player should be ignored. It is misleading at best and totally worthless for most purposes.
  18. Any stat that completely ignores defense while trying to answer that question is a total garbage stat. WPA is a total garbage stat.
  19. Love the Colorado jerseys, I'd put them #1. Also like the Diamondbacks, Angels, Nationals, Royals and Astros. The rest can go away.
  20. Will Holland is showing more promise than Aaron Sabato.
