  1. What farm director is going to say "Boy, I really screwed that draft up yesterday. These guys are terrible!"
  2. If their strategy is bad at finding cheap, young pitching they will not be competitive long-term with a $120M payroll. If they're good at finding pitching, then find more of it. Pitchers are currency for trades that every team will always want. They might not need a future second baseman, but everyone can find room for another pitcher.
  3. Disagree. Drafts should be at least 60% pitching. Pitchers get injured more often so there is always more attrition. There are more pitchers than hitters used in any season. Pitchers make more $$/WAR than hitters. Pitching is scarce. Hitting is easier to acquire through free agency.
  4. Actually, the further away you go the whole 7 county Metro area becomes a singular entity. I took a kids 4-H team to an event on a Sunday morning at an elementary school in Woodbury and my exurban parents were asking if that was safe.
  5. I really like having the draft happen at this spot in the calendar. Filling the spot before the All-Star game is great. Any earlier and the actual games overshadow it. Post-ASG will be all trade rumors.
  6. I also find it very hard to understand but it's real. I will tell people I'm going to a Twins game and the immediate response from suburbanites is that I'm risking my life like it's Hanoi in 1968. It's even worse the further away you get from the metro.
  7. I think it is more due to big picture trends than it is with the baseball team. Interest in baseball is declining among younger people (more interest in basketball and soccer as well as esports/video games). Older people who are interested in baseball are afraid of Minneapolis. Economic pressures may be keeping fans with fewer resources at home but that doesn't explain a decline in season ticket sales. TV does matter; the best advertisement for having fun at a Twins game is watching a game on television.
  8. So, where does he rank? Is he top 10? He's definitely not top 5 with Jenkins, Lee, Rodriguez, Keaschall and Festa ahead of him.
  9. "Soon" was about 2 months ago. After today we will be closer to the end of the season than we are to May 1.
  10. Yeah, it's terrible when small market teams like the Royals, Guardians and Orioles have no chance because the large market Cubs, Angels and Mets buy all the good players.
  11. He's a high school pitcher. That's plenty enough reason for him to fall down the draft boards. I'm not a fan of the rumor mill attacking the character of a teenager. The overwhelming majority of teenagers have some growing up to do. I assume Caminiti is no different from most teenagers.
  12. Several top rated pitchers still available, including Brecht
  13. Honeycutt going 1 pick later will be an interesting comparison as well.
  14. If Brooks Lee hits okay and plays solid defense that's good enough. He shouldn't be expected to provide the offense yet.
  15. Twins pass over all the pitchers and grab the college SS.
