  1. Those are not impressive numbers for AAA, especially with the current run environment in AAA. St. Paul has a 770 OPS as a team and they're right in the middle of the pack on offense. Median OPS in MLB is 700. The median hitter in MLB is a helluva lot better than the median hitter in AAA. Subtract 150-200 points from Keirsey's AAA OPS and you'll get a rough equivalency to the major leagues. Hope for Austin Martin with a better glove.
  2. I have a chance to win big with scratch-off lottery tickets. The most likely outcome is I'm out $5.
  3. I am not expecting much. If he can catch the ball and put up an 85 OPS+ that would be appreciated. In other words - be Margot/Martin but with a better glove. It's likely that he spends September struggling against MLB pitching and they really don't get a payoff until next season, if then.
  4. That is a pretty ignorant take on how much work a professional athlete puts in every day. There's batting practice, fielding practice, weight room & conditioning plus game film / strategy on top of the 3 hours a day you see them.
  5. If you're relying on Varland and Keirsey to lead the team to victory you're relying on the wrong people.
  6. Santana came out due to illness/injury. Did you want Helman there instead? Julien?
  7. Randy Dobnak is irrelevant to any decisions they will make about the roster, or should be.
  8. Very few relief pitchers do it consistently well. The ones who can do it consistently well are turned into closers. This is selection bias at work.
  9. Using Duran in the 8th IS improvising. Waiting to use him until the 9th is going by the book. There is plenty to criticize Rocco about, but you can't fault him for "failing to improvise". If anything he's managing too much.
  10. There is a totally different thread on that.
  11. You really don't want that. Joe Pohlad "We didn't make the playoffs and due to that we're going to have to make some cutbacks for the 2025 budget."
  12. A pitcher who only throws 2 pitches to righties and 2 pitches to lefties is not likely to be able to make it a 3rd time through the order with any success. Batters will adjust.
  13. Also wanted to get Castro's glove into the game for Julien which is entirely defensible with a 2 run lead.
  14. They may have been able to get the 8th inning out of Ober but he wasn't going to pitch the 9th with >95 pitches on the night.
  15. What's different? Do closers do backflips before entering the game but 8th inning pitchers do cartwheels? This is one of those areas where mental toughness actually does matter. If you can prepare for the inning when 9 is on the scoreboard but not when 8 is on the scoreboard and you lose all confidence and determination, then you aren't a mentally tough pitcher. Same goes for pitchers who can pitch when that number is an 8 but not when it is a 9. Rocco was too clever by half last night. He wouldn't be getting roasted here if Duran had fallen apart in the 9th instead of the 8th. We won't know but it's entirely possible that the Royals were ready for Duran and would have blown him up in the 9th if Ober or Jax pitches a scoreless 8th inning.
  16. Most teams already have a guy like Keirsey Jr they can use as minor league depth.
  17. Emmanuel Rodriguez has a direct path to the big leagues the first time Buxton gets injured, although this front office might keep him in AAA because he bats lefthanded and they'd rather call up a RH hitter for the role.
  18. Capable? Sure, but incredibly unlikely. Raya will probably be spending his 3rd consecutive season in Double-A and Canterino will probably be spending his 3rd consecutive season on the injured list.
  19. You must be visiting a different Baseball Reference. The one I visit has him +4 RField in 32 games with positive defensive runs saved at 2B, SS and 3B.
  20. The coaching staff, opposing scouts and the defensive metrics disagree with you.
  21. Lee is their 2nd best infield defender after Correa.
  22. I have no problem rooting for the underdog. It would be so much fun to see this team go in with no expectations and knock the Yankees out of the playoffs.
  23. The response should be "I'm not sure I want to sign one of your guys again. They whine too much."
