  1. Royce Lewis just hit his 30th home run in his 103rd game played. That's a 47 HR pace in a 162 game season.
  2. Gladden and Atteberry said to expect him to go on a minor league rehab assignment this week.
  3. Dobnak has all 3 options according to Fangraphs. They need the 40 man spot to bring Topa back.
  4. I would be trying to beat the Cubs. Worry about today's game. Setting the rotation is for the playoffs.
  5. They can send Dobnak down any time they want a different pitcher. Varland on Friday is likely.
  6. His height helps him get on base but probably limits him defensively to LF/2B.
  7. I guarantee they won't see Crochet or Skubal in the playoffs. We should all be thrilled if they have to match up with Chris Sale.
  8. Varland has pitched in 8 games of relief, which is not nearly large enough sample size to draw any conclusions.
  9. All 3 are out of options. Thielbar and Okert are there to matchup with lefthanded batters and they're probably better than Varland at that. They didn't trade for Richards to cut him a week later. I suppose they could option Topa and put Varland in the bullpen.
  10. It's hard to figure out what you have with a young pitcher who is likely to improve further but he didn't give up a lot of HR in the minors (0.7 per 9 innings).
  11. There isn't really a spot for Varland in the bullpen at the moment. Topa is likely to come up at the end of his rehab assignment which will send Dobnak back to AAA. Sands has pitched well enough to keep a spot. Richards is the new guy. They aren't releasing Okert or Thielbar to add Varland. He will have to wait until rosters expand in September.
  12. I keep seeing "regression" used to indicate worse performance. In math the term just means that over a large sample a player's performance will tend to their long-term baseline. Christian Vazquez has "regressed" by hitting with a .910 OPS in July which brings his stats UP to his baseline expectation. If Woods Richardson is a good pitcher, then his statline is right at expectations and regression would just mean continued performance at this level.
  13. If his chase rate can get to league average, he'll be fine. I'm fine with some swing and miss in the zone if it comes with huge power when he connects. Only a few players (Vlad Guerrero) can connect for power with pitches outside of the strike zone.
  14. Surprised they weren't able to get an accounting firm to sponsor the banner.

  16. The way you have described it sounds like the umpire got it 100% correct. If the batter is out of the box and the catcher's throw had a reasonable chance to get the runner then the runner should be out due to Kepler's interference. I watched the play The umpire was 100% correct.
  17. Which is really weird since both teams ended up settling for prospects MUCH worse than those players from other teams. If true it is like they were more interested in hurting the Twins in 2024 than they were in improving their own ballclubs in the future.
