  1. 3-4 might be enough on this road trip if KC and Baltimore take care of Detroit. I don't think this race will be decided until the final weekend.
  2. He's playing poorly. He can't score from 2B on a single and he almost got thrown out on a double to the wall because he had to jog to 2B. He looks like a 50+ year old beer league softball player who crushes a ball to the fence, jogs to 1B and then has his kid pinch run for him.
  3. 50% of Buxton/Correa is probably better than Helman/Keirsey
  4. Batting them lower in the lineup so they can have fewer at-bats is counterintuitive. If they're hitting well you want to bat them higher in the lineup so they have more opportunities to hit. You can always remove them from the game if it is decided early. They're batting 5th and 6th now because they haven't seen live pitching in a while. If they keep hitting well, I would move them up higher.
  5. There are rumors that Topa might come up. I will believe that when he's in the clubhouse.
  6. If they need a 4th starter in the playoffs then they won the wild-card round.
  7. 2024 Arizona Fall League teams and schedule (milb.com) Season starts October 4 so teams will be announced sometime in the next 2 weeks.
  8. Larnach is clearly injured and probably shouldn't be playing except he's still hitting the ball. If Kepler returns, I'm expecting Larnach to go on the injured list. Overall, a well-played game by the Twins. Fun to watch. Lee had a great day at the plate and in the field (nice sweep tag at 2B, good job going in the hole for a grounder). Festa is not quite there yet. He has good stuff but doesn't always locate it well and he needs a 3rd pitch to tunnel off the others. Cole Sands was terrific today in relief.
  9. The organization made the call that having day-to-day Buxton and Correa on the roster is more valuable than having Helman and Kiersey on the roster. I can't argue against that.
  10. They are STILL INJURED. The medical staff said both players will be day-to-day for the rest of the season.
  11. Lots of emotional projection in the comments here. Are these the true emotions of the team or emotions you are having and projecting onto the team?
  12. Astros are 8-0 in Yusei Kikuchi starts. It has worked well so far.
  13. RF in Target Field is very different than every other stadium. It is unusual to have a short porch in RF and more unusual to have a hard surface wall on an overhang. That said, he should have had enough practice to get used to it by now.
  14. Or maybe the league figured him out. Or maybe he's just pitching worse. Or maybe a bit of all three.
  15. Julien rates 1% below average and Martin rates 3% below average (in a smaller sample size). They're both below average at 2B but Martin has graded out worse than Julien.
  16. Julien needs to be a little less aggressive. A 33% chase rate is too high for him. He was too passive before, so this is part of learning the MLB strike zone.
  17. His statcast page lays it all out. 75th percentile speed, 4th percentile outfield range. His initial jump is terrible. He's making 83% of the plays when the expectation is 88%. Austin Martin Stats: Statcast, Visuals & Advanced Metrics | baseballsavant.com (mlb.com) He covers 2 feet less than an average CF. That may not sound like much but remember it's the radius of a circle. 32 feet vs 34 feet is a difference of 414 square feet of outfield that Martin can't cover. Buxton's coverage is 35.5 feet which means he covers 740 more square feet of outfield than Austin Martin.
  18. Martin's defense is definitely not "solid". RField of -13 in about half a season of MLB games is terrible.
  19. That can be fixed. Sounds like the problem is pitch selection, not mechanics.
