  1. Watch how much attendance tanks if they're out of the wild card race in September. It could be 150k less.
  2. There is a creative way for the Twins to not take on additional salary but help the Jays reduce their luxury tax number. Randy Dobnak is "off the books" for luxury tax calculations but he's still owed a little more than $3M.
  3. Most prospects rated lower than 10 will not contribute much to the future of the team. Those guys are usually utility players, 5th starters or relief pitchers.
  4. The Jays have a strong incentive to dump his salary to get under the competitive balance tax threshold.
  5. Paxton is likely to pitch worse at Target Field than he did in Dodger Stadium. He's not anything special but he's better than putting Festa or Varland out there again.
  6. Paxton raises the floor. He's better than their worst pitcher and costs about 1% of their total budget for salary.
  7. Kirilloff's lack of a glove, bat or good health.
  8. He's only ever been a starter but I wonder if he could pitch better in relief than Okert or Thielbar. Paxton is better than the worst pitcher on the roster so there is little downside acquiring him as long as it doesn't prevent them from acquiring someone else later.
  9. Because I don't believe in the long-term success of anyone with that kind of injury history. Use him while he's available.
  10. I think Tom Kelly lives in Maplewood which means he can't watch the games due to the Comcast dispute.
  11. If Paddack is out then the priority has to be another starting pitcher. They probably won't make the playoffs with Festa starting regularly.
  12. We have several pitchers with a higher ERA than FIP lately. The defense is not helping out.
  13. Austin Martin is no longer a prospect. He's played in 49 games which is > 45 days on the active roster.
  14. I do enjoy watching them play the Brewers. Both teams are entertaining.
  15. The bullpen held scoreless until the 11th inning. They could use a good LH reliever but otherwise they're fine if they get Stewart back. They need their 3 best hitters back in the lineup.
  16. Except Margot is in the lineup now, the LH batter is gone and you're basically guaranteeing Margot will face a RHP twice. They pull Wallner and Julien early so the only advantage is the switch hitters Castro, Lee and Santana get to hit LH. The opposing manager is not going to keep a lefthanded reliever in the game for multiple innings. Wait him out and the LHP will be gone anyway.
  17. I would appreciate a deep dive on Morris. What pitches does he throw? What is he good at and what is he working on?
  18. I looked up his stats before this season and his pinch hitting was worse than his overall hitting (.188) but it wasn't this bad. The crazy part about that stat is he's almost always brought in to hit a lefty pitcher so he should be in a situation to succeed. I'm pretty sure the opposing manager didn't swap pitchers every time.
  19. This was inevitable and probably necessary. Don't give up on him after he goes back to AAA.
  20. Most bullpens are pretty shallow when you get to the 6th best pitcher. My god, how can Margot be that bad at pinch hitting. Someone pointed out to me Giancarlo Stanton's struggles pinch hitting. He may have a rival.
  21. Radio update from Gladden. Miranda should be back tomorrow. Royce should get a rehab assignment within a week.
