Agreed with the OP. I was absolutely befuddled by Soto’s call up. Also perplexed with all of the one inning relievers on the roster, and no swing man. I’d think Piggy-backing would be an ideal way to manage Archer/Bundy and the revolving AAA starters this team needs to more consistently score runs, and Kiriloff should be a key part of that
-
Kiriloff plus Balazovic might do it. I would not want to give up Larnach. Gordon/Moran/Duffey would not be of much value to the Pirates, Duffey would probably be negative value

My guess is it was a part of his Covid IL activation plan with the health team.

These are human beings with medical conditions, not robots on periodic maintenance schedules. Rocco can only manage so much, and when Buxton’s knee swells up isn’t one of them. Neither is when to activate Correa off the IL, he might have some input on Correa’s scale up plan, but my assumption is the medical staff and Correa himself has some say there too. it’s a long season, and if the team can be on pace for 93 wins while being decimated by injuries and “incompetent management”, imagine what it’ll be like if we actually see a healthy team in September and October!

Agreed he has to go as far as possible. As far as possible seems likely to be 3 innings. Things have been falling apart for Archer in the 4th inning like clockwork.

Cherry pick your stats and they prove your narrative, no? Garlick mashes lefties and Baldelli keeps trotting him out there against lefties

Duffey has -1.09 WPA, .491 ERA and 33% HR/FB. He has had some improved outings lately, but has not shed his low leverage label from me, yet- 70 replies

I really like how you phrased this. Individual perception based on their lived experience is real, and how people make their decisions. We all do. Inflationary effects are also perceptive. Inflation gets thrown around as this 2% or 5% or 8% of GDP, but it does not effect all products equally, so individuals feel it differently. We all make our decisions based on our individual experiences.
-
Agreed and to add, we’ve seen how quickly perceived depth can be depleted. 3 weeks ago there was a perceived glut of starting pitching, and now it’s looking rather meager again. There’s only 17 fielders on the 40 man roster. Trading Urshela or another DFA type of move to DH force a roster spot for Lewis will make that even more difficult in the certain event of an injury

I don’t think Molitor or Mientkewics were fired for their record or their acumen, or coaching capability. i don’t know why they were fired, but my guess is it had more to do with their ability to collaborate with Falvey and Levine. Modern MBA theory promotes matrix decision making over hierarchical. Mientkewics specifically was characterized in the media as “it’s my clubhouse, not your business” and Molitor kinda had that vibe, though he clearly tried to fit the matrix, but “my clubhouse” would not fit in the matrix decision making process. Putting that into context with some of Baldelli’s comments about Buxton’s health management plan and other decisions it seems clear to me that Baldelli subscribes. that might be some of the deltas on perception we see. Being a team player in decision making doesn’t make Baldelli indecisive or Counsell decisive, it might be that the Brewers fans having had their FO somewhat longer than the Twins, might be better used to the management model in place for quite some time longer than the Twins where the Hierarchical management had been in place basically forever.

To @Trov’s point, just like actual theft, base stealing deterrence is way more effective at mitigating runs than actually catching steals. It’s not a great measurement at any sample size. -

Chemistry is literally ingredients, tools and process. Good process for chemistry is built on the scientific method, to isolate changes in the process or ingredients to differentiate effects and documentation appropriately. it seems the Twins have taken a similar approach. The ingredients: players, coaches, team management. They have a good cocktail of ingredients. Tools and Process: communication, culture, practices/drills, rest, rhythms and patterns in the clubhouse. The combination of ingredients, tools and process is the recipe, just like baking a cake. Process and ingredients work together. If you take out your eggs, crack them, and then take out your bowl, you just threw your eggs on the floor and wrecked the cake. Conversely, you can bake a cake all day long, but if you don’t have a leavening agent it won’t rise. Process without ingredients, ingredients without process, either makes for a bad cake. and so work place chemistry, team chemistry is very similar. The right people, right tools, right process, makes for a high performing team. Outcomes can be external, if the flour delivery truck delivers late it breaks down the chemistry, but that normalizes over time (and why we carry safety stock/strong bench) edit to add: unlike literal ingredients to chemistry reactions, people don’t come with specification documentation and certificates of lot conformance. Sometimes you have to adjust process, and sometimes you have to adjust ingredients to get the right chemical reaction
