  1. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/2018-mlb-all-star-game-rosters-revealed-full-american-and-national-league-rosters-starters-reserves/ Apparently Rosario is on the final vote ballot, but no way his getting more votes than Stanton
  2. that’s the point. Can’t even identify if it was 17 or 18. How many of them will actually stick? How many of them are fringe prospects?
  3. my employer “trades” employees between wholly owned subsidiaries. It’s not an uncommon thing to hear “you have a new position, show up on Monday” and require a long distance move.
  4. oh heck no, but with attrition being what it is, you need Ben Rortvedts in every level of your development org. Last I saw, he was about it in the pipeline.
  5. As this season goes on, I have my doubts Escobar will be back because he may get traded at the deadline and a larger contract offer from somewhere else. Similarly, I think the FO non-tenders both Mauer and Dozier. I think the FO may re-sign Adrianza, but who knows? Agreed, it would be nice to know what you have in the tandem of Polanco and Gordon, but three issues. 1) Gordon hasn’t yet shown readiness. 2) Gordon, Polanco, Sano in 2b/SS/3b scares the daylights outta me. 3) Dozier, Polanco, Sano scares me worse
  6. I’m sure SSS, but his bat sure seems to play big league ball. Maybe he’ll always be the super ute, but man there’s value with a super ute who can catch a couple games a month and not butcher it, especially with how short the bench is.
  7. Yeah DFA Brian Wilson, we don’t need his good, good, good....good vibrations when we’re this down in the dumps. DFA Bobby Wilson while your at it, he can’t hit fer crap!
  8. my recollection is that the eighties were down offensive years, and our current generation is up in terms of power hitting. Does 1 in 10 apply for Pucket as the bar? He was a very poor poer hitter when he first came up, he slapped everything. Good observation and a nifty quick math guide!
  9. I wouldn't be continually posting here and BYTO previously if I weren't both optimistic and steadfastly loyal. (1) Mauer, (2) Morrison, (3) Adrianza, (4) Grossman, (5) Escobar (6) Dozier are all gone Buxton, Gordon, and Sano are still projects, not all 3 are going to hit, 1 or 2 will struggle (7) Castro can't be counted on (8) I'm not sure what to think of Kepler, it looks like he should be succeeding, and hes not. I'm at a loss. Catchers matter a lot, but no one player can make up for all of that, and high end catchers cost the most trade capital of all position players. try to develop in 18 and 19, if it still really needs be addressed, do it in 20 when contention is real. Maybe you re-sign Esco and Adrianza (Edit- how could I forget Dozier?)
  10. Mauer is today a first baseman with an OPS of .697. Concussions are to blame, but I don’t see how Levine can re-sign him. Mauer is no longer a catcher. To the subject, I think ‘18 should be spent grooming Garver to be a backup. Sign a stop gap in the offseason, as Castro can’t be counted on for next year.
  11. where I struggle, is if they are contending in 2019, trading away good players is the only way to get value, but I don’t really see any surplus in the org that would return a high quality catcher for ‘18 and/or ‘19. I’d work with Garver and Astudillo in 18. Sign a free agent for 19(as underwhelming of a list as that was) and try to develop the long term solution. They’ve got a much better chance to improve the other 5 or 6 holes than this one.
  12. i know, he’s hitting it hard more frequently, making more consistent contact, and lofting more frequently. It’s the recipe for success!
  13. i was looking at the same stats. Seems like he either hits at an outfielder in the air, or into the shift on the dirt.
  14. why did the chicken cross the road? To show the skunk it could be done!
  15. good point - Buxton and Mauer playing through injury hurt this team as badly or worse than their replacements while on the DL
  16. I’d be shocked if Sano played in the bigs again in ‘18. Rebuild is in session and with Buxton and Sano that means some serious developmental work.
  17. Twins did not record an out at first base for this game. Gold Glove defense at first wasted... http://mlb.com/r/article?ymd=20180703&content_id=284106326&vkey=news_min&c_id=min
  18. it’s pretty clear that the Twins development system has been broken for years. It shouldn’t be a shock if any of the core need some fine tuning in the minors. Buxton especially was rushed. I don’t think the FO has given up on Buxton and Sano, but do agree that they’ve determined the fixes required will push legit contention to 2020.
  19. It looks like the Twins are open for business. July 3 seems very early for this type of article. https://www.mlb.com/news/twins-trade-rumors-active-sellers-at-deadline/c-284061192 The quote at the end of the anonymous NL GM saying “One National League team official believes the Twins are open to discussing nearly every player on the roster, even those under control beyond the 2018 season.” Is pretty much flat out saying Gibson is getting traded.
  20. looks like Erv really benefitted from “nothin falls but raindrops” where Odorizzi would as well but of course Buck is replaced by significantly worse fielders.
  21. the counterpoint is also, how do you expect guys like Rosario and Escobar to continue to perform at a high level if you never rest them?
