  1. This is a better team playing the youth than it was while most of the vets were around. I see this period of non-factor August a gift to test Gonsalves and Stewart et al, during competitive baseball and still have September to get a look at the other guys who’ll compete for roles next year. Plus it’s a better team to watch!
  2. In my mind, First Base (or third if you shift Sano) Second Base (or SS if you shift Polanco) Catcher and Bullpen are my areas of concern, but 3 of the 4 can be well resolved with the Salary room and prospect capital that the FO has for 2019. Not likely Catcher gets resolved this off-season, but relying on Castro seems risky. It's not often a team has 30-50 mil to spend and one of the best farm systems in baseball, AND can be considered a contender for their division. I think they are in a place to contend for a while.
  3. yup, I think these couple starts are what the FO needs to determine if they should sneak him through waivers again.
  4. May had Tommy John and usually command is an attribute lost when the UCL is damaged and harder to regain when coming back. https://www.baseballprospectus.com/news/article/31054/cold-takes-command-control-and-tommy-john-surgery/ I think he’ll be more sharp next year, he’s a competitor
  5. agreed, I would be shopping for 1b as well. I think Austin should replace Grossman in 19 as the 4th OF. I think Gordon will be the addition to Adrianza at some point, maybe not until mid season though.
  6. Billy Hamilton OPS .664 in ‘16 when he went to Arb and got 2.6 mil. Buck OPS .383 in ‘18. In 3 years buck has 5 weeks of tantalizing hitting. I doubt he gets 2 mil in Arb. The gold glove will help, but how much? Maybe 1.5 mil? Peter Bourjos made 1.2 mil in his first year of arb in 14, in 13 his ops was .606. Bourjos only made around 8 mil through arb.
  7. 1) Buxton hasn’t looked like an MLB hitter in any way. 3 weeks of triple A hitting isn’t going to change my opinion of that. He would probably start 19 in triple A too. 2) The FO needs to make sure they have team control of Buxton for the extra year. If he’s healthy, he needs ABs. Appy fall league sounds like the best way to get him some.
  8. Yep, but i look forward to your updates
  9. Agreed, he is interesting as a relief conversion project. I’m not sure I’d risk losing him, but it depends on who else I would need to protect. According to AZ Phil if Stewart were waived unclaimed and outrighted to AAA he would be rule 5 eligible. Whether or not he would be claimed if waived, and/or drafted via rule 5, I’m not sure. I might be tempted to sneak him through waivers when rosters expand in September. https://www.thecubreporter.com/mlb-rule-5-draft Quote: 4. Any player on a minor league reserve list who has either been released or had his contract voided and then re-signs with the same MLB organization within one year is eligible for selection. 5. Any player on a minor league reserve list who has been outrighted to the minors previously in his career is eligible for selection. End quote
  10. yup, exactly why you bring up Stewart over Thorpe, so you can get a look at him to decide if you want to waive him at season end and expose him to the rule 5, in favor of one of the 5 or so other decisions to be made in Nov
  11. Stewart needs to be protected from the Rule 5 draft. Thorpe is a no brainer. He’s getting protected no matter what. Stewart needs some more evaluation.
  12. we don’t know, it’s all speculation as to how a player who’s been clearly bad as to imply hurt all season miraculously needs surgery right as his particular roster spot is required. This surgery has been a while in the making. It had to be. There’s no other reasonable explanation for LoMo to have fallen off the cliff so badly AND his replacement be called up before his DL stint be announced and have his announcement include the surgery in it making it an immediate 60 day.
  13. it could have been diagnosed a month ago, the sort of thing like “you need hip surgery, but you can still play on it until the season is over” type of thing, until LoMo cried uncle earlier this week.
  14. agreed he should be a reliever, but i’d rather May be more of a fireman ala Miller. Heart of the lineup in the 7th or 8th get May warmed up.
  15. Wow, lots of vitriol over a player venting. I support the FO in selling. I don’t expect Erv to like it. If I were in either of their shoes i’d feel the same way. It’s time to move on from Erv. He’s hurting his value by playing hurt. It’s a lost year for him and the Twins. Time to bring up the kids.
  16. For starting pitching you need to be 10 deep at a minimum. I accept that to be truth, and it seems the FO does as well, starting pitching has become at least average where it was 30 and way worse than 29 not long ago. How deep is deep enough in the outfield? Is it realistic to be 8-9 deep in the outfield? 1 and 4 (Buxton, Granite) were supposed be locks this year, 6 (LaMarre) failed miserably, 7 (Cave) was not even an after thought in February and has pulled through admirably. So yeah, Rochester is a mess but shouldn’t it be? The FO saw it coming and acquired Cave, and promoted Wade. Corner infield depth improved a bit with the acquisition of Austin, but it will be interesting to see how first is addressed in the offseason for both the Twins and Redwings. Rooker is on the cusp, but you can’t count on that. Maybe Vargas sticks around, but ooofda. Third base with Escobar gone looks to be a significant depth issue, especially since Sano lately does not look as sure as he did previously. Agreed on Goodrum, wouldn’t he look good in a Twins uni?
  17. you can only have so many DH's on the roster
  18. DeRosa on the bottom of the list...Spirit of Vodka Dave, is that you?
  19. no kidding!? Thanks for clarifying, but I’m feeling less smug
  20. with no immediate heir apparent at 2nd base, first base, catcher, and the need to bolster the 8th inning setup man and if things went well, I’d imagine front of rotation, how do you think the FO will fill those roles? There’s maybe 50/60 mil in payroll to play with, and all those prospects to dangle. It’s a huge roster turn over, can they get it all done in one offseason/up to all star break?
  21. Clutch is difficult to measure, because it is largely driven by perception. Reality is what we perceive it to be, but the goal of the stats is to take your heart out of decision making. I don’t disagree that clutch is real and agree that Joe’s extraordinary ability to not make an out is vital to scoring runs in the clutch. It’s vital to scoring runs in every inning though, not just in the 9th.
  22. is it by invitation only? Or is there an application I can fill out? I wanna join the BPPFC!
  23. AAA is a more hitter friendly league than AA.2018 Austin wrc+ 100 2018 Rooker wrc+ 137
  24. I would think the strategy would be to claim a guy you think could be attained via waiver claim or to block your adversary from making a trade.
