  1. Any team with our record should be able to find room for someone we want.
  2. I do not like the way we have used Ober. Pitch him as long as he is doing well, extend him, let him be a starter. If he starts to wear down then shut him down, but no more 4 inning starts. Keep bringing up the young guys. I like Ober's story and I hope the other pitchers are so good that he does not make the rotation.
  3. I fear our sabremetric FO and manager and coaches all feel that they know more than anyone else. Old school can be mixed with new and pitchers can be left to do what they feel best with. I have less than good expectations with this leadership group and I hope I am proven wrong.
  4. No that assumes that we could have signed him for the same value the market will set, but even without it, it assumes that Berrios would have given us the rest of this year and all of next year with better results than any other pitcher we have or will get. He did just pitch six shut out innings for Toronto. It also assumes that if we had kept him we would still have gotten an extra draft choice so in reality we gained one prospect and lost 40 starts.
  5. Toronto view of Berrios I always like to look at the other side in trades. What do they think? "Nevertheless, Berrios is now a Blue Jay and after clearing the necessary protocols and arriving in Toronto Saturday evening, manager Charlie Montoyo scheduled him to pitch yesterday in front of a home crowd that was not only happy to have baseball back at the Rogers Centre but was now able to witness the star deadline acquisition pitch against the Kansas City Royals." "Overall, Jose Berrios had a great debut with the Blue Jays and showed fans across the country why it took two top prospects to get him into a blue uniform. Not only does the club have him for the rest of the season, but he will also be with the Jays next year as well, helping the team push for the playoffs over the next two years with a young core that can hit the ball a very long way." In the Toronto paper - https://www.thestar.com/sports/bluejays/opinion/2021/08/01/blue-jays-takeways-the-holiday-debut-of-a-starter-acquired-at-the-trade-deadline-its-been-the-start-of-something-good-before.html
  6. Thank you - I was blinded with my tears for the bad baseball we are enduring.
  7. The last thing I want to see is Colome pitch. I do not want to see anyone who does not have a future with the Twins on the field or the bench or the mound. The only reason to watch, listen, read is the future. Anything else and the FO is robbing us of a chance to actually stay interested in the team.
  8. Thanks for the report. Interesting. Not inspiring. Nice to see Celestino get hits against AAA pitchers.
  9. I am puzzled about what to say. Welcome to the Twins Mr Gant you fit right in with the BP. Pineda this is why no one made the trade for you. Where are the positives? I don't know. The record says all that is needed - 44 - 62 .415 18 GB Since 1922 the Senator/Twins have three times had worse percentages than this for the season.
  10. Bring up Miranda - he deserves it and the Twins need a jolt - I would also reward Contreras with some MLB time. Cave is not the future, use his spot for some young players. Bring up the Saint's bullpen trio and let's see if they can be the answer to next year. I just look at the posts on TD today and it feels like the trade deadline was the end of the season for the team. Understandable. It would have been nice if Strotman had pitched great and gave us a boost, but this is reality and it did not happen.
  11. I am with you. Ober has not been allowed to go 5 in numerous games. Is he a starter? I really hate Rocco's hook. I do not understand it at all. Tonight he was lucky, the BP did not fail us.
  12. Trading Happ is an A+. Trading Berrios is a statement that the Twins will not commit to pay for a quality starter. No matter how people debate his ACE status (a worthless discussion) he is the best we have now and the best we have had since Santana. It will take a long time for one of the prospects to be as good as he is right now. Accepting that we were not going to sign him we made a good trade, but not as good as it sounds for this reason. As the CBA now stands we would have gotten one draft pick for him so our overall haul was really one prospect. So I give the Berrios trade a C. Trading Robles is a wash. I do not know about the prospect, but I do know Robles had a very uneven year, but much better than the other big signing - Colome. Give this a C. Not trading Pineda is a fail. Not trading Donaldson, Simmons, Colome, Kepler and anyone else is also a Fail. So I understand the ESPN grade.
  13. Our prospect summary had only six players active yesterday and they went 3 - 24 and 11 Ks. And I do not want to comment on Balazovic. Still hoping he makes it to MN this summer. I find myself less enthralled with St Paul now that I hardly know the players over there. But I still like these summaries.
  14. I love reading about prospects but always feel reluctant to over hype them. Your essay was really good and appropriate. I enjoyed reading it and it gives me a better perspective, but does not stop my wait and see feeling.
  15. Excellent article - no more dumpster dive FA. Use the talent we have. Develop it. Let the arms work. Of course the trade deadline fizzled when we should have moved a lot more players and gotten even more prospects. Unlike Baldelli, Levine, and Falvey I do not see the pieces in place to succeed. Maeda, Ober, Jax and who make up the rotation of the team for next year at this point. Let's hope some of those minor leaguers fill in the rest and show even brighter than what these three bring. Who is BP? Alcala fizzled, Duffey is too erratic and seems to have lost something, Rogers has to come back from injury and Colome and Coloumbe are an interesting name combination, but I have no faith in them Thielbar - can he keep it going? Hamilton, Moran... Who is at SS - does Martin get it for a year, does Polanco go back there? Is Lewis able to overcome two years off? Does our OF have Kepler, Larnach, Buxton? Can Buxton stay healthy? Are we stuck with Cave again? Is Rooker DH? Can he overcome his K's. Is Sano DH? Can he overcome his K's? Will Donaldson stay on the field or do we put in Miranda? Garver and Jeffers - what to do with Rortvedt? So many questions for a team that is going to rise again - quickly.
  16. I can only say - okay. As long as he is in the minors I do not mind and hopefully he will progress to the majors.
  17. I agree with Matthew that they cannot compete without Berrios - they would have to spend more than they wanted to pay Berrios to get a pitcher as good in FA
  18. 38 minutes to go and a lot of players I hope that they move now that they have gotten rid of Berrios. Will anything more happen? Yes to anything for Happ, surprised to get a live arm.
  19. Who cares as long as Happ is gone. Gant is 23 - 21 and has 1.8 WAR over 6 seasons. Aged 28 - that is so much more than the bag of used baseballs I expected us to get.
  20. Another x-Twin to root for. If only the Twins had more reasons for us to keep rooting this year.
  21. I do not know prospects - all the lists mean nothing. What percent of great prospects make great MLB players. I can only wait and see, but prospects for next year have definitely taken a hit and what will we do this year? Bring up Shoemaker? The only thing that makes the rest of the season interesting is if they play our prospects. Give us a hope for the future.
  22. Pull the trigger FO - if you are going to trade Berrios, get it done, or just stop the charades and walk away and finish this soap opera.
  23. A step backward. I only want to see glimpses of the future, not another glimpse at a washed up FA.
  24. Yes - because I am trying to figure out what the highlights will be for the rest of the season. What keeps me interested after the trades are done. Kiriloff and Buxton gone, Berrios gone???
  25. This is painful. No game report, except the minors where I had to read about Shoemaker again. With so many parts to remove and so much happening in the marker where are the Twins. We need to do more that lose Berrios - if we do!
