  1. I loved it - Sano keep hot - I will still criticize you if you go back to being a whiff monster, but what I just saw was a player making contact and that is great. Ober was mediocre - not sure the praise is earned. Happy to have him try another game against another team, but a 9.00 ERA is not brag worthy even in a year where we are searching for good news. Finally, am I the only fan who does not care that Yermin hit the HR off Astudillo. If we pitch batting practice the hitter has the option to clobber anything any time in any count. I am so sick of the unwritten rules and the minor infractions that are supposed to be insults to the integrity of the game. If I am a hitter and can pad my stats, I would do it. The game is changing with bat flips, joy and excitement starting with the Padres and that is just fine with me.
  2. Sparkman gone, Law gone, the dominoes keep falling from the off season reliever list.
  3. Astudillo is has the second best BA out of players with 80+ ABs. Astudillo has the fifth best ERA+. And he has the best attitude, joy, and energy. He came in to be the catcher when Garver was hurt despite the fact that he is hurt. He is 8th in WAR among batters. Only three RPs among all we have had this year have an ERA+ over 100 - Robles, Rogers and Astudillo. I love having Astudillo on the team, but I do not want to see him leading our team in so many ways. Our full season roster has 17 players with negative WAR out of 41 players. Seven players have zero WAR (zero value?). And 14 of these zero and negative players are on our current active roster. Larnach has proven he belongs. Refsnyder and Garlick give the FO more hope that they can find cast off that they can turn into "stars", although Garlick is a negative WAR. Happ and Shoemaker have ERA plus of 60 and 74! No that is not good enough for your 4th and 5th starters. Kenta Maeda has ERA+ of 75. Just a tick above these two, but not enough to even be a fifth starter. Maeda, Shoemaker, and Colome are the bottom three in team WAR. Can we trade rosters with one of our minor league teams? Is there any reason Jeffers is not back up with the team? I am, learning to enjoy the angst in the postings and I hope no one quits filling these spots with your thoughts and tears.
  4. One game, one play, one rookie - not worth all the angst - this team is such a mess that that only diverts attention from the real problems - Front office errors, coaching and manager errors, veteran errors. Where are our winning ways? Our team work is missing. These are just a bunch of miscellaneous ball players occupying positions, but not taking responsibility for leadership, doing the small things, getting hits and not wild swings, getting ground balls and letting the strikeouts come naturally. I am frustrating that Bally Sports blacks out so many games that my MLB package is worthless, but maybe they are doing me a favor.
  5. A trade won't make it better, it is time to see the next generation of players. Put in Jeffers, he is doing fine in St Paul, Garver continues to struggle. The OF depth is really being stretched, but please bring up a real CF prospect, even if not quite ready so we can at least see some Defense. Get the AA BP into the Twins and send these guys on a vacation to Wichita. Bring up some SP from the minors - Ober, Winder. Let's jettison the flotsam and give fans a reason to watch. The mask rule means more fans can come to the stands, the team as it stands right now means less fans will come to the stands.
  6. "Ian Gibaut allowed three singles, a HBP, two walks, and two doubles. Iowa took a resounding 8-3 lead and stole the series finale." Yes another scrub we knew we could make into a RP star. I want the team to continue to make changes until we get a roster we can live with. Rob the minors, make the majors an interesting team again.
  7. In a year when we were addressing defense - we failed. In a year where we knew we could pick up any scrub and make him into a RP - we failed. Sano has one good game - yesterday. Kepler has one good game - today. Can we get these professional hitters to do something regularly? By the way Larnach looks like he belongs - that is the positive. And Maeda is still reading last years press clippings.
  8. I am willing to just be happy with a win. I was on the shared site and left to go have a whisky. I could not handle it anymore and then they came back. I am delighted. If they want to make me look bad by winning the rest of their games I am willing to take the pie in the face for it. Do the hitting coaches deserve to go? I do not know. I know that we have a team of regression. Kepler, Polanco, Sano, and Garver seemed to be on the verge of greatness and slipped back into mediocrity. I know Sano had a big hit today, but how many times has he failed? If Big Papi is his model, he has a long way to go. Berrios is our best pitcher, but is he elite? No. The BP had two studs - Duffey and Rogers then they hit the wall and regressed. Something is missing. I do not know what.
  9. Do we take comfort when we disliked the addition in the first place and now he has given us all the reasons we need to have to know that he is not going to rise much above the bottom of our expectations. I do not believe in Dobnak, Smeltzer, and Thorpe. I think it is the next level of prospects which will have to save us, but that does not mean that they should not have the same opportunity that Shoemaker has had to prove us right or wrong. Each is an interesting story, but that does not make them the right components of a pennant winning rotation. So now we look at Maeda and hope he is not a one year wonder, Berrios seems to be the same as he always has been, good but not great, Pineda is steady and valuable but only signed for this year. Happ is the perfect number five, but has to serve as a four. In other words we have two dependable starters which makes the acceptance of a mediocre five less viable.
  10. Descalso is a mystery signing. I want the young players to move up, not fill the roster with old and incompetent. That goes for RP too - Hamilton is another of our questionable signings and Albers is not going to prosper in MLB - I can't wait for Balazovic and Duran to come back. Whitefield is giving us some hope - what a contrast in CF between Whitefield and Kepler/Cave.
  11. Remember that Molitor won MOY too and then was let go. Was Derek Shelton the reason we were better? I know people believe in Rowson as hitting coach and he is gone. There are so many weak spots right now I have no idea how it can be fixed,
  12. Wow that was depressing. A cold shower might be invigorating, this was a hail storm. I will go back and read it again to see if there is anything I can find that gives me hope. Nope. By the way - I bought the MLB package so I could follow this wonderful season and the Sox series was blacked out and now Oakland is. Is Dr Fauci trying to save my sanity?
  13. The weakness in this satire is that it almost makes sense.
  14. Shaun did not look good, when you make exceptions in a performance everyone looks good, but he also did not look that good in ST or they would have kept him up. I believe they wanted to the way they used him. Cano is perfect. At his age the only reason to keep him in the minors is because he will always be in the minors. Use his arm now while it has life. The peak comes and goes quickly. Is Chalmers really the third choice? If these are the top three I am not hopeful. And no more retreads. We have already seen how that works this year. I assume we started with the best and are working down - go no further. Get fresh young arms into the BP. And that is not Smeltzer, Dobnak, or Thorpe. We need better.
  15. What a list, it is listing the most obvious - Maeda (all the articles about we have our Ace) - and then we have Rogers and Polanco in the wings. Do you count Colome or doesn't his White Sox time count? This is sad because we had this group come up together and gave us the feeling that the future would be ours - just add a few arms and legs and we would be ready to go. Dobnak has to go on the list too. He isn't even looking good in St Paul. Jeffers would be on the list, but he is awake in St Paul and needs to come back up. Jake Cave wasn't too high so his regression does not seem as much, but he is killing us - why does Rocco love him? Maybe the biggest regression is at Manager and coaches. In 2019 we were so excited that we had a team of genius coaching. Now?
  16. Hill just shut out the Yankees for 6.2 innings with 9 Ks. https://www.mlb.com/gameday/yankees-vs-rays/2021/05/13/634126#game_state=final,lock_state=final,game_tab=box,game=634126
  17. At this point if the pitcher has anything put him in the MLB bullpen. This pen just stinks and if we are going no where we can at least audition arms.
  18. From the team's future view - he will be a free agent - use him, get your dollars worth. Pitchers some how survived the previous decades throwing 9 innings and sometimes more.
  19. That was fun. I always enjoy seeing your reports, but always wonder how many of the players on any minor league team will ever see the majors. For fun I took Scout Seth's scout scores and added them up for each player. Here is there rank by highest accumulated scout scores - when you look at it this way does it mirror what you see as the prospects most likely to graduate to the bigs eventually? 340 - Wallner 330 - Steer 320 - Gray 305 - Encarnacion 300 - Helman 295 - Cabbage and Keirsey 290 - Snyder 285 - Javier, Maciel, Isola 275 - Carmago 270 Williams
  20. How tough to be assigned post game wrap ups. I would want to write- They Stunk again and go have a beer. But of course baseball is about nuance. So Rocco tried to get six innings out of a starter. Maybe you start pushing the innings in ST and early in the seasons. Not a sudden, lets try it. Sorry, but Pineda did not blow it in the sixth. Robles let in the run and Pineda is given the score on his sheet. Baseball Reference says 67% of inherited runners score against the BP. How do you spell RELIEF? Not the Bullpen. 32 inherited runners have scored - subtract that from the SP and add it to the RP - how are the ERAs? Robles you do not deserve a clean 0 runs. Taylor Rogers you killed us with the run you gave up.
  21. With Simmons ankle he may be back at SS - so lets hope his bat is ready to make up for any poor plays in the field.
  22. This site is becoming our therapy couch. We keep elevating our hopes - Oh good Happ is pitching! Yikes he gave up 9 runs. Shaun is coming in (the announcers are so desperate that they talk on about how many different spellings the teams history of Sauns has had) and of course he gives up a HR. The team rallies, we are going to keep it going - right? The radio announcers are trying to hold in their shock - Garlick is going to bat and they have good matchups on the bench - sure they will use Larnach. No they don't. Larnach will PH with no one on and be stranded in the next inning, but Garlick will bat and kill the rally. Hey Rocco - find that sheet about LH/RH matchups. They pull Garlick then and put in Cave and his 169 BA. That will help. What happened to Simmons? Why is he out of the game? Will his ankle keep him out now? The tears are flowing, but I am feeling better now - thanks for the couch!
  23. Good to read some winning baseball. I know they want Jeffers to play more minor league games, but Rortvedt and Garver are not doing the job - I want Jeffers up and I want to see him given extended time in MLB - 2 out of 3 games. I can see Rooker taking over for Sano too. They both K too much, but Rooker might do something with the other pitchers - Sano looks lost.
  24. Who is that leader? This team has no emotions except for Arraez and Astudillo and neither of them qualifies as a leader.
