  1. Good for Pineda, but why are we starting him? After 111 games we don't need to see what he can do. Sign him to an extension and then use him or let some more minor league pitchers start (if we have any that are not on the IL). The same with Simmons - if he is going audition SS. Let Gordon play, try Palacios. The same with Cave and anyone else that is not part of the future. The only thing that will keep most fans interested is the progress of prospects not the free agent finish of veterans who have led us to this dismal record.
  2. Five of our prospects injured list - then I read the transactions and it looks like all our pitchers are going down. Is this common amongst the other minor leagues? Is there something wrong with the mechanics, the coaching? It is depressing to see so many good arms shut down. It will be all BP games pretty soon and over use will destroy the relievers too. What can be done?
  3. You have risen to the top of the rememberers.
  4. Love it - what a great event when he takes the MN mound.
  5. Looking at the BP chart I keep wondering why Burrows and not one of our AAA BP arms? Is it because the FO wants to show how smart their moves are? We need some reinforcements for the next two games.
  6. Just an all around good game. Jax and Ober are learning and making their mark, now to start some more young pitchers and see what we have. Let them learn in this lost year.
  7. I just reviewed the one day stats of our top prospects - don't look. It is not a pretty picture. So disappointed that Balazovic had such a bad day. I was hoping for a big finish. The 12 runs and a loss reminds me of another team that had 14 runs and lost!
  8. This made me think - can I name five coaches. Rocco is easy, Wes is pretty well known. Beyond that it could be the Marx brothers. Thanks for messing with my mind.
  9. The best FA to replace Berrios will be Berrios in two years. These pictures are good not great. All these years posts have complained that Berrios is not an Ace - guess what - none of these pitchers are ACES.
  10. Nobody is worth the money that is being paid to the ball players, but the key question is - can we use the money to get someone as good or better or are we just helping the budget?
  11. I read the new top fifty ESPN prospect list - no Twins on it. Martin and Lewis were listed in those who were discussed but did not make the list so they will be top 100. I am always interested in what writers outside MN have to say about our players - just for perspective. I would imagine it is hard for them and our writers to continue to list Royce Lewis as number one after losing two years. His return will be fascinating.
  12. This is the wrong end of the equation - trades should happen when the other team offers more value than we perceive from a player. Anyone can be traded, not just those listed, but not just for sake of trading them.
  13. I have not been impressed with Sabato so I am happy to see him have a good night with the bat. Nice to see so many on the prospect list playing and hitting yesterday.
  14. Fun game, more fun if we won. But I enjoyed the spirit and effort. Let's bring up our top pitching prospects and see what they can do. And with Donaldson not in the field, let's give Miranda a shot too.
  15. Tis the season of hope. If we are going to sign a cast off, Houston is a good place to start.
  16. The more I think about this season the more I think I would put Pineda and Maeda in the BP and just put one young pitcher after the next on the mound to start the games. We know Maeda and we might not even have Pineda in the future. Let's see what we have.
  17. I would take him back! I am not part of an ACE dialogue. There were a lot of great pitchers who were not ACEs by the limited definition that we now use. Radtke, Viola, Kaat, Perry...Not ACES perhaps, but damn good and dependable.
  18. I really enjoyed this. It is a very constructive way to look at the positions. I hope you are able to get more up to date data because I think we will look even worse with more current information. I went to fangraphs and wRC - 1. Garver is #20 on the overall list - our highest twin 154 score. It really hurts to see LaMonte Wade at #27! Nelson Cruz is the only other Twin (ex) in the top 60. 2. Josh Donaldson #62 127 Then there is Akil Baddoo at number 82 - still higher that Twins OF 3.Polanco is #93 with a 118 There is Robbie Grossman and Jonathon Scoop before we get to 4.Arraez at #136 - 109 5. Sano at #169 is 104 And that completes our over league average group (average 100). Jeffers 97 Kepler 96 Astudillo 96 Kiriloff 94 Larnach 89 Simmons 61 Thanks to Garver these 11 average 104 for the team.
  19. I would have given it to Berrios or Ober. I am not as impressed with Maeda as many seem to be. He was great last year, this year he was not only bad at the beginning, but I would argue he is just average right now. This pitching staff just has a long way to go at this point. I would really like to see a Balazovic given a chance and a few more of our high end prospect pitchers.
  20. "Meanwhile, Kenta Maeda continued a strong second half of the season with two scoreless frames, before running into trouble in the third. Maeda gave up back-to-back home runs" Five runs in five innings and we call his pitching good? That is a pretty low bar for our new number one pitcher to clear. Polanco is looking great - he has become our number one hitter with speed, power, and clutch performance. How nice to have him going like this.
  21. Cole Sands line is a poor pitcher of the day result. Nunn looks like he was the pitcher of the day based on your article. Thanks for the update. I do agree with the idea of giving Miranda some MLB at bats. Keep the young players moving up and sit the older ones.
  22. Thanks for your notes. I am wait and see. I hope Berrios rises to Cy Young - not to show up the Twins, but because I have always been a fan of his. Getting rid of Happ and Robles is a plus, but I wonder if they will benefit from getting out of the Twins way. I read Shoemaker's remarks and they make some sense. Veterans do not need to start over. Next year looks like a struggle and I have no idea how they will handle it. I may be the only one who would rather go a year with the home grown pitchers and see what we have rather than signing some middling FA arms. We already got rid of the best FA, so let the young guys keep growing.
  23. Leadership is something that happens, it is not assigned or expected. It is maturity, personality, charisma, and talent. If he becomes that, great. But if that is not part of who he is and he continues to play well that is okay too.
  24. I will be happy to see an article that puts the Twins prospects into an updated list. It is hard for me to understand what is used to rank these new players who are a mystery to me.
  25. Good choice - I am fascinated by his future as we look at Simmons who I do not believe will be back.
