Which Twins Regular is More Untouchable?
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You seem to make steps I did not take. Buxton is another discussion and I do not want to mix it into this choice of Miranda and Kiriloff that the article focuses on. When I see players of equal value I will take the one that has the better health record. It is that simple.- 32 replies

Which Twins Regular is More Untouchable?

I move Kiriloff, players who injure frequently don't stop getting injured. Keep Miranda and if we can get value flip Kiriloff.- 32 replies

Nice to see Caleb get into a game. Based on performance Sanchez might not be calling the best games for the pitchers although when they have talent like Ryan and Gray it does not show.

My but we look good against playoff teams! Archer and Bundy remind me of a couple 2021 signings. Archer has kept his ERA down because we treat him as a RP and use him as a SP. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When does Winder get well? Did anyone happen to see OBER? Ryan and Gray and hope to survive another day. Miranda is doing amazing. So pleased with his bat - this is what Kiriloff is supposed to do.

Are the Twins MLB’s Worst Baserunning Team?
mikelink45 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Team speed is an asset when it is used. We do not advance runners by SB, Hit and Run, bunt. Buxton takes an extra base on hits, but is static once on. We get picked off, run into outs and seem to be lost when we do not hit a HR. But it is not just the players. The team needs to adjust, it needs to implement the speed game and develop the skills. Fast is not enough with a bad jump and a good catcher. I have posted many times about my love of the GO-Go Sox, the Herzog Cardinals, even Billy Martin and Rod Carew and their steals of home. I loved Rickey Henderson, Maury Wills, Brock and others who ran the basepaths and created havoc with pitchers and fielders. Thanks for the article.- 19 replies

I blame the BP and I blame the starter and I am amazed when Baldelli comes up with "We needed better at-bats late in the game to make something happen." True, but they had hits, what they needed most was arms to shut down the Brewers.

3 X-Factors for the Twins in the Second Half
mikelink45 replied to Nash Walker's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The real X factor is the BP - like last night, if we do not have a solid BP, our shaky rotation after Gray and Ryan is helpless. And since they do not go deep, they too rely on the arms in the pen.- 23 replies

This is really tough, but none of the guys you list are here this year or contributing next - so package them and get someone in who can make a difference if another team is willing.

Week in Review: Back in Business
mikelink45 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Nice reflection. Let's hope that giving up the Detroit series means that Byron is ready for the rest of the season. I agree on pitching. With WInder going down what do we have after Ryan and Gray? It is not a good playoff recipe. It will be interesting to see how Sano fits in - Kepler to IL is the perfect short term solution, but right now the Gordon, Celestino, Kepler OF looks really good.- 20 replies

Balazovic disappointed, but Varland and Povich added to the woes of our pitching with Thielbar and Winder on IL the top prospects need to prove themselves. This is upsetting. The transaction list is a hospital list at this time - hard to see so many IL players. Today is decision day for Sano I believe - what happens next?

Good essay on them and on the Twins of that era in the NYT - "According to research by the Hall of Fame, no team has had more than five Hall of Famers at once in the division-play era. Besides the Twins, the others with five are the 1970 Chicago Cubs, the 1980 Boston Red Sox and the 1982 and 1984 Milwaukee Brewers. "

What about an overall Team ranking. We have so many rest days that we do not really know how the team does as a whole. Straight fielding we rank 14 according to FOX. Fielding Bible has us 12. So we are middle of the pack. I would like more.

Post Draft: Who's the Twins' Top Pitching Prospect?
mikelink45 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
This is underwhelming. Yikes - injuries, bad performances and we hope the new guy we signed who was not even a first round pick is the best we have! Where is Sands. He rose, we were excited, he flopped, now we forget about him? Balazovic just cannot put together a full season - he reminds me of some other prospects I was so high on and that have now disappeared altogether. Who is the Tyler Wells in the group? Where is Varland or are those pitcher of the year awards worth nothing? Enlow has been around long enough that he should be rising, but seems to be just an organizational arm. Henriquez is another filler if I am reading the rankings right. Isn't Povich a top five? I am confused.- 31 replies

Do the Twins Have Anything to Trade?
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
For some reason speculation about trades just doesn't interest me. Is such a random thing because you have both teams trying to figure the value and oftentimes it doesn't I'm out too much have a jolt for the team. Sometimes it's a small move like getting Shannon Stewart who caught fire for us and was never considered to be a star before that run. But realistically whoever we get has 2 months to contribute. With the foundation being laid at the major league level now, any move needs to take into consideration the future. I'm sorry to say we just are not strong enough to think that we should be all in for the world series.- 24 replies

All Star Changes Open Letter to Rob Manfred
mikelink45 commented on Doc Munson's blog entry in Fantasy GM
I like where you are going, but I have to say I tuned out the all-star team a decade ago. In the old days of Ted Williams and Willie Mays they played the game to win and it had some classic moments. Now we just have a turnstile that puts players in and out so they can get their tv moments and when the game is decided it is not the starters but the extras that are on the field. If you want a skills contest put a bucket in RF/LF/CF. Each batter gets six attempts to hit to the bucket - the one that gets the closest to each in the winner. The problem with other skills, like fielding and pitching is the chance for injury and no one wants to lose a player from an all-star injury. -
Week in Review: Breaking Bad
mikelink45 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I have been without internet for a few days here in Alaska and checked in to see how we were doing with the White Sox I'm not sure it was a good thing to check in. Once again we go against a good team and fold up there was no contest except for the one game and we are supposed to be making a statement. Losing Jeffers hurts the most because you don't have any real catching depth as an earlier article on TD emphasize There are a lot of mysteries to solve coming out of the All-Star game. How do we get relief pitching and starting pitching are already discussed in all of the post and I don't have any idea. Who you trade and who you get. the minors don't seem to help the answers. Sano looks ready but where does he play and do we need him? Can he pitch, can you catch? And then there is the Buxton question. Do you continue to keep them in the top of the lineup when he's in these slumps? Does he continue to take up the DH role when he's not heading?- 18 replies

I understand all the Balazovic comments, I was really expecting him to rise to MLB this year, but now I wonder where he will drop to in the prospect rankings? Will there be new rankings at the All star break? Our AAA staff really does not seem ready to step up to help the Twins on the mound. A lot of disappointing arms like others have pointed out.

What is our identity? We are not a bullpen team, we do not have a shut down rotation, our power is average, our fielding is only average - is that the answer - we are a team of averages playing in a division filled with flaws?
