Yes, yes, yes. Let him play more innings and get more of an idea of what he can do for the team. It's unlikely we see Jeffers back next season and we WILL need some competent catchers.
Since July 30th, Adrian Bohorquez has tossed 36 innings over eight games. He has given up three earned runs on 13 hits and 14 walks and 41 strikeouts. In that stretch, the 21-year-old Venezuelan is 2-1 with a 0.75 ERA, a 0.75 WHIP and 10.25 K/9.
He's having a terrific end to the season. How legitimate is he as a prospect?
I hope the Twins do NOT try and trade Lopez. Good pitcher, good character, good influence on his teammates, and he will be most eager to come back from his injury and contribute next season. He is a keeper. But yeah, I think it made sense to try and trade Ryan. He was coming off another excellent first half but showing signs that he most likely won't sign an extension with the Twins. Trade him while he still has some value. I can't foresee any scenario where he is pitching for the Twins two years from now.
Most definitely! I needed to smile after a hard day at work and his reaction to his home run, plus the interview (with the assistance from the wonderful Pablo Lopez!) was a huge feel-good moment.
Interesting list, but if they are all healthy, I expect Abel, Mathews, and Prielipp in the starting rotation, and even Rojas at some point. I still don't see a scenario where we keep Joe Ryan next season, assuming there really will be a next season. Feeling very pessimistic lately.
Very good article. I enjoy reading about these types of "fringe" pitchers and how they are adapting and trying to hone their arsenal of pitches in order to become more valuable players. Interesting stuff.
Well, his value might be slightly higher after a fairly productive second half, but it appears like he is slipping again this month. Not sure what sort of value he has at this point, nor am I sure how much value he has for the Twins going forward. I think we could be doing the free agent tango for a first baseman again next season, if there is one.
As the article says, it makes sense for them to call up ERod and see how he handles MLB pitching. Then again, too many things that make sense to me don't happen.
Royce Lewis was looking great a month ago, but the past week or so it appears like he is regressing again. I've about run out hope and patience with him. Does he remain our starting first baseman next season. or do we try and trade him?
Thanks for the clarification. Honestly, I'm surprised our ranking is that good in the LOB department. I would have guessed that we were near the bottom. Of course it would help if we put MORE men on base to start with.
A stocky but strapping switch-hitter, Lee entered professional baseball as a shortstop.
I've never seen Lee in the flesh, but he doesn't strike me as stocky. That aside, I've been pleasantly surprised as to how well he as adapted at a new position and performed this season. There is hope yet.
Calling all doctors ... what's the real verdict on Buxton's current health situation? Can he play at a productive level this month even with these "hip issues" ? And if so, does that mean DH only duty?
The Twins have a VERY good bunch of arms slated for the starting rotation next season, with or without Joe Ryan, but I would hesitate to call it a dominant rotation. Cross your fingers in regards to injuries, but we ARE looking good going forward. As to whether or not there will be a 2027 season, that's another issue.
Veteran German Marquez was charged with six runs on six hits (including two home runs) over the first six innings. However, just two of the runs were earned thanks to three errors by infielders.
I'd almost forgotten that the Twins had signed Marquez last month. Doesn't he have some sort of out clause if he's not called up by a certain date?
I love seeing players like Merphy Hernandez stealing bases. Doesn't seem like it's a skill that the modern stat guys care for all that much, but I still like to see speed on the base paths.
MacPhail believes the organization is starting to see the benefits of that approach.
“We are starting to see the fruits of that labor of these athletic players that are very routine oriented, have really solid swings, they have twitch, and can play defense.”
They have twitch? Man, yet another new baseball skill I wasn't aware of! But if they can play solid defense, you've sold me!
