Steer would be a nice boost for our lineup, but I have to believe he would've been traded anyways, our infield is pretty full with lots of depth in AAA. Of course Steers 20/20 season would have been a nice weapon to have playing second base for us .....time will tell on CES

Why is Twins Rookie Brooks Lee Struggling So Badly?
LambchoP replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Lee will be just fine. Kids a rookie playing through injuries and fatigue while getting forced to play multiple positions. I think if he comes in healthy and well rested in Spring training and the Twins say, here ya go, your our everyday second baseman, he's gonna do great things -
Wally's been fun to watch lately. He truly has that game changing power. If he can both stay healthy and keep his strikeouts in check, I can see him hitting in the middle of our lineup and playing right field for a lot of years. I'd say a 2025 season of hitting .250-.270 with 25-30 HR is well within reach. He should be a good Kepler replacement in RF with that cannon arm of his too. Here's to a productive playoff streak!

I'm wondering if that's why the kept Keirsey on the roster over Martin. They know Buxton's going to need to DH a lot so they want a true center fielder on the roster. I like Keirsey, but Buxton is a whole different player and hitter when he's in CF. We need him and Correa back. Not just in the lineup but I'm the field too

Cory Lewis should make AAA next year if he keeps pitching well. St Paul should have quite the stash of promising SP. Festa, if he's not in MLB as 5th starter, Mathews, Morris, Lewis, Adams. Nice to see we got some good pitchers in our system finally. Whether any of them turn out to be playoff caliber or ace level guys remains to be seen. On the position players side, sure looks like Eeles and Mccusker should impact the team next year. Hopefully E Rod can get his thumb issues fixed in the off-season because I think he's got the best chance to improve the Twins outfield next year. Good things are coming, as long as we can keep guys healthy and limit injuries!

The Ongoing Education of Edouard Julien
LambchoP replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He's definitely been hitting better with a more aggressive approach, but he still has a ways to go before he gets back to where he was last year. Sophomore slumps or not, pitchers adjusted to him and now he needs to find a way to adjust back. I'm worried about his defense too. It's been so bad this year it's cost us runs and at least one loss. I think he's AAA bound when Correa comes back. Hopefully he can make something click in St Paul and look towards 2025 and put this year behind him. I think if the struggles continue through next year, he'll be passed up by some of our young IF players like Keaschal, Eeles or Severino. -
The Jhoan Durán Panic Is Hugely Overblown
LambchoP replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He may be still feeling the after effects of his early season oblique injury. His velo is down a bit from last year, but you really can't complain about a guy "only" throwing 100-102. Although it was a blast watching him hit 103 104 last year. I think the main issue is he's been pretty awful in non saves situations, but then in one or two run close games or save situations, he's been dominant. I don't think there's anything to worry about with Duran. He's our closer, and he deserves to be. -
Twins pitching just needs to hold up. Three rookies in the rotation is extremely risky in a tight playoff race. My guess is, we're going to be giving up some runs. Meaning we're going to have to out-slug our opponents and our bullpen is going to be pitching a LOT of innings. With Buxton back on Friday and Correa hopefully soon after, we control our own fate. Get hot at the right time and anything can happen!

How has Morris looked in his AAA starts since his promotion? I know he's pitched great at all the other levels, very similar numbers to Zebby actually. Of course Zebby looked great through AA but then got knocked around in his few AAA starts and has been inconsistent in the bigs. Both Zebby and Morris probably should be starting in St Paul the rest of the season and to start 2025. It's nice when a player forces the team to call them up with performance, not out of desperation because of injuries and lack of depth

Buck's Back: Twins To Activate Byron Buxton on Friday
LambchoP replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm glad Bucks back, I'm just worried it's going to take him awhile to get in a groove with no real rehab assignment. Still, if he's healthy, he makes this team better, on offense and in CF. Martin going down rather than Keirsey makes sense. Keirsey is a much better late game defensive replacement and probably a better pinch runner too. He can also play a solid CF which can not be said for Martin. Question is, who goes down for Correa? Julien or Lee. My guess is Julien, still too many strikeouts. Plus, Lee's defense has been solid, and what recent moves have shown, they are prioritizing defense a bit more. Seems like the perfect time to get Correa and Buxton back. Team is finally catching a second wind for the stretch run! Just hope our pitching can hold up. -
Too bad about Rodriguez, I wonder what happened there. They need to find a way to keep him healthy. Haven't heard a whole lot about this Mccusker kid but man it looks like he can hit. Eeles also looking like he wants a 2025 debut. Looks like Twins should be flush with position players. As long as some of them can pan out and hit in the bigs like they have in the minors we should have some solid depth. I wonder if we use some of this upper minors depth and use a positionally blocked prospect or two in order to receive some much needed starting pitching in the off-season since it seems we won't be spending any money to acquire anyone of note...

Sands has been just like Brock Stewart last year. Not a lot of confidence going into Spring training, but has become one of our go to guys in the pen. I think we have a solid relief core group to build on next year. If all are healthy, we have Duran, Jax, Alcala and Sands Stewart, Varland and Paddack should be here Henriquez, Topa, possibly Canterino All we really need are a couple lefties. Maybe Headrick, Funderburk and a free agent signing who can step in as number 1 lefty. Looks like a great group to me. Of course we all know injuries happen and relievers are volatile year to year, so we'll need some good depth too. Hopefully they don't repeat last year's plan of minor league signings and waiver wire guys. Not a single one worked out this year.
-
I tend to like aggressive sends, but it has to be done smart. Why risk it with only one out, or none at all. Plus you only send your faster guys in these situations. If it's going to be close, you probably should not send your slowest guys. I could see Watkins getting moved back to first base coach next year if he's still here. Hopefully Twins will start scoring runs again and we won't have to make these tough decisions trying to desperately scrape a run together.
-
Intriguing idea. But do you really want to move a rookie who's learning on the fly back and forth from the pen to the rotation? He was moved up too quickly and should be starting in AA or AAA still. What I really wonder about is Paddack. All his MRI's and imaging have come back clean from the beginning. So what's with the prolonged absence if there's nothing wrong with him. I thought he could be a perfect guy to pitch multiple innings from the pen, just like they did last year with him and Varland. They finally just made the right move to put Varland out there, it'd be nice if they would do the same with Paddack, if he hadn't given up on the season already:( I guess if Paddacks season is done, Zebby to the pen would be the next best option. Who takes his place in the rotation the rest of the way though? Bouschly? Dobnak? That's scary....
-
Any of these teams are going to be a daunting task. Astros, Yankees and Orioles have crushed us this year. If I had to pick a team to face, it'd be the one with no left handed starting pitching. When we face lefties there will be no Wallner or Larnach. Miranda doesn't hit them as well. Both Castro and Santana suck hitting RH. Plus, we'd probably see a lineup with Farmer, Vasquez and Martin. That's not an intimidating lineup to a good team. I'm not expecting anything in the wild card round other than a quick sweep, but of course, if a team gets hot at the right moment, anything can happen. Keep hope alive! Gotta get there first of course ...

Looks like Farmers finally found something at the plate. He should probably be out at 2nd every day over Julien. Lee needs a few days off. Glad Keirsey is getting reps in CF. Until Buxton is back, they should ride with him out there as he's probably our best defensive outfielder besides Buck. Glad he got his first hit. Hopefully Twins can put that nasty slump behind them and go on a good run to finish out the year. Hold on to that third wildcard spot!

Twins Minor League Report (9/10): Jenkins' Double-A Debut
LambchoP replied to Steve Lein's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Didn't the Twins have a really hard throwing Juan Morillo in our system years ago? I swear I remember him making like 2 or 3 appearances. Dude threw 100 mph but couldn't find the strike zone. Anyways, congrats to Jenkins. Will be pretty cool to have the number one baseball prospect. Hopefully he can handle all the pressure put on a number one guy. He's looked great so far- 9 replies

Exactly. I get that it's a long season and it's a grind. But c'mon, I keep hearing about Lewis wearing down. He's only played in 60 games! If our top players can't handle a full schedule, then we should be real worried. You don't hear about Bobby Witt being too tired, after playing in every darn game. Look at Santana, the dudes 38 and he plays more than Lewis Buck and Correa. Is it our conditioning program, are our players this weak? They need to figure out the problem and find a way to keep our guys healthy and on the field as more than just part time players. I've always wondered if players contracts were dependent on games played how many less long term injuries we'd see...
-
I think the front office has to finally admit their superstars in Buxton, Correa and Lewis are part time players. We might get half a season worth of games out of each of them. If they accept that fact, then they can start to fill out the roster accordingly. They can't continue to sign these waiver claim, injury prone cast offs thinking, oh, they'll only be out there as a backup to our star players, we won't actually have to rely on them too much. Then of course, these back up guys end up being in our starting lineup most of the year. We need to have solid depth and players who can step up when called upon. They are doing a great job of collecting position players prospects which should help a lot. Of course we can't expect all those guys to work out, you've got to support the young kids with proven vets who can mentor and teach these young prospects who are getting relied upon for the first time. As for pitching, I assume they'll just roll with what we've got. Festa and Zebby should still be in AAA and Paddack in the pen, meaning we need at least one SP who can competitively pitch at least half a season or so until Festa or Zebby are ready for real. The rotation will be one or two injuries to Pablo, Ryan or Ober, away from being in real trouble. Bullpen has a good group but needs a lefty or two in free agency. It's fun when they get lucky on minor league deals and the like, but it's also frustrating when those are the only kind of signings we make, like this year, look how well that worked. Rant over!
-
Twins began the year as one of the worst hitting, most strikeout prone teams in baseball. They turned it around for awhile, now they look just like they did in April. Lewis, who is supposed to be our last remaining "superstar" looks like he needs a reset in AAA. He's striking out at like what, a 40 percent rate? Lee and Castro have also forgotten how to hit. I'm not sure if Correa and Buxton will be enough to turn things around, but I got to believe they would at least help with morale, which is at rock bottom at the worst possible time:(

I think unless we get Correa and Buxton back ASAP, we're going to be on the outside looking in. Both Lee and Lewis look like they need a AAA trip, but with nobody to replace them, won't happen. I feel a lot of this slump is mental, they've all but given up. Correa could help with that. One bright note, we get to see Pablo pitch to a bad team, hopefully stop the bleeding a bit?
