  1. Thielbar needs to start locking situations down when he comes in or, at 37, may be odd man out sooner than later. His Twin’s connection/history will buy him more time than a guy may normally get. Not going anywhere until June at earliest. Okert seems to be a longer term view acquisition. Jackson could be a trade piece in July if he is just average the next 60 days. Youth/options point to Funderburk being the choice to go down. Bowman will get DFA’d……maybe after his next outing sometime in Chicago this week. 13 position players: Farmer - Correa - Julien - Santana - Kirilloff Castro - Buxton - Kepler - Larnach - Margot Jeffers - Vazquez (Long-term, LEWIS) ………..now, Martin or Miranda……….Miranda as a choice at 3B & 1B & DH…..3 hits Sunday and has small sample BA up to around .300. Assuming, Martin goes down so he can play regularly as Castro will start splitting time in OF & 3B once Correa is back.
  2. Vazquez to .250 - Castro to .250 - Julien to .236 - Kepler to .231 - Buxton to .244 ………All were under .200 just 6-10 days ago, Kepler started the year 1-20. Same hitting coach now as on April 18th - same hitting coach as August of ‘23 when team was tearing it up collectively……..players gotta execute. “…and a decent RP” = relief pitcher? Pen stacks up pretty well against anybody’s and two of Top 4 guys have been on IL whole season. Health would be/will be nice. Correa this week. Lewis in 6 weeks.
  3. Whatever works between the ears!! Summer Sausage lasts forever so things are looking up.
  4. He was perfect for 4 2/3 & then started to get cute, trying to be too fine “around” the plate. After he gave up 2 hits and had thrown a first pitch ball, I see Vazquez calling/gesturing for his change-up down out of the zone - WHY? Both times he got behind more and then a couple inside fastballs, not far enough off the plate, got hit out to RF. His fastball plays and he can spot it …….get ahead and use the other pitches off the fastball…….quit routinely pitching backwards, behind in the count……….was DOMINANT & then just loses mentally with pitch choices. Catcher/bench needs to take some responsibility in the approach. 4 2/3 perfect is pretty good though & perfect doesn’t exist in baseball. Got a win!
  5. Agreed, it’s not a laugher for sure! ……,the SOX 22 or so losses have helped prop up the rest of the Division a bit though. AND, I typed here yesterday that the Guardians - Tigers - Royals - Twins Strength of Schedules through Saturday were #27 - #26 - #25 - #21 respectively……..the Division may see some regression through May.
  6. Compete - both side!. If you want to not get “shown up” use a professional pitcher. If he were the 2nd or 3rd guy in an inning trying to hit a HR, then it may be inappropriate. He’s not supposed to try & make an out. No problem with the swing - not proud of the feat but no problem with him playing the game.
  7. I took a look this morning at STRENGTH of SCHEDULE…..Twins are at a modest spot of 21st most difficult after the first 26 games. Cleveland - 27th Detroit - 26th Kansas City - 25th I assume after we play our next 4 games, we may drop another spot or two. No reason to be ashamed about beating teams you are supposed to beat!
  8. NO! Projected by baseball pundits (7 of them) to be a Top 3-9 best reliever in the Game. There are numerous reasons why it isn’t a good move - chiefly, he’s EXCELLENT as a closer & his health is better maintained throwing 65-70 innings Full Out! Nobody is talking about Jax or Stewart being a starter……….really don’t understand the intrigue with Duran moving into the rotation?
  9. They jumped up against the rest of baseball after last night. Even with less games - tied for 7th in HR - moving up in Run totals, after the 16. Good point that they’ve played less games - skewing Totals Categories.
  10. Good news is if a guys hitting .125 - .170 or so (7-8 guys) like the Twins had 10 days ago, one needs to hit .300 a bit to get up over the .210 -.220 mark for Average. That’s been happening with Castro - Vazquez - Julien ……..Margot is edging up, & so is Santana. ………Buxton has gone from .198 up to .244 over that stretch…… Farmer needs a couple 3-4’s at some point…….a 1-3 would be a nice start! Getting better slowly - headed toward respectability - not there yet. Tied for 13 in HR after this week’s flurry…..25th in Average at .220 for Team …….25th in Runs….lots of room to move up!!
  11. I get Funderburk is the youngest - he’s also nearly unhitable since he came up last year. To be more clear, he doesn’t give up many runs! Bowman has gotten a chance to show his capabilities to the rest of MLB. ……I think he gets DFA’d for Duran or at least Topa in next couple weeks. Somebody will immediately scoop him up. Alcala will potentially need a spot at some point as well. Okert - Funderburk - Sands - Topa - Stewart - Jax - Duran - Thielbar or Alcala seems to be the top group.
  12. They won’t get rid of Jackson (dfa). They may trade him in 75 days if they still have a bullpen glut & he’s only been average? He’s given up too many HR - a couple were in games they were already down a few. 12.2 innings - 3 HR - 15K’s. He probably will level out over next 10 innings. His ERA isn’t great at all but it’s just under 5.00 so he’s not a bust yet. Thielbar will get more leash than Jackson but he too needs to step it up through May.
  13. I get Funderburk is the youngest - he’s also nearly unhitable since he came up last year. To be more clear, he doesn’t give up many runs! 14. Whoops PADDACK & Lopez…….still, hope to get at least one to take the series.
  15. I get TD is for debate - discourse - opinions. I really like reading and adding my point of view on stuff that interests me. The negativity every day makes me smile. I think it would be cool to win every game but 55% is really good in MLB. Guys hitting well week after week for 26 weeks would be nice. Baseball is a daily grind for players and for most reading TD daily. The Twins play the same teams as Detroit - K.C. etc. - we have won 5 straight and guys are starting to contribute on a more balanced level. Makes me happy, not skeptical…..,,,Last year I wanted Kepler DFA’d and typed it here a few times. By September 1st I had the utmost respect for him! I’m just as grumpy about lack of production as anyone. Kepler was 1-20 prior to IL stint & since his return I believe he has 4 AB’s yielding 2 out hits for RBI. Things can turn around……it’s still April. OBER - 8 Earned in 1 1/3 in his opener …….,, 4 starts since, his ERA in those is 1.46. I really like his demeanor & his pitch mix too. Ryan & Lopez over the weekend - a real shot to take a road series. Always good!
  16. Probably don’t like seeing Castro - Santana - Vazquez being penciled in either? One threw out Trout stealing and they had 6 hits between them. Can’t break out of a slump w/o at bats. Without Lewis & Correa they have a weaker RH platoon squad, no doubt, so somebody’s gotta hit 3rd. 2nd - 3rd - 6th, Margot’s still in there.
  17. He will bat RH hitters v. LH pitching all year. For everyone, no reason to wonder, it’s why 3-4 of the guys are on the roster - to bat against LH pitching & be depth defenders. Castro & Santana are the guys that are listed above for WPA - nice shift from the norm! Vazquez was framing up some pitches wide of the Zone for strikes. Threw out Mike Trout. Base hit. The shift to a more balanced squad is taking place.
  18. I saw somewhere today that Stuart hasn’t given up a run (out around 3 months in ‘23) since May 29th of last year……. Bowman not there yet …..definitely contributing though! 5 late outs on Friday night.
  19. Vazquez is framing pitches for Ober tonight and getting “balls” called for Strikes - 2 hitter through 7 1/3 innings. Base hit for 3rd consecutive game - average up to .220……..everyone’s gotta relax…..,threw out Trout at 2nd early in the game. Vazquez catching gives Team defensive upside - allows Jeffers to stay fresh - allows Jeffers to contribute as DH. He’s fine. Castro & Santana are starting to come around as well as Vazquez.
  20. He looked pathetic in his one start at DH in the Show!
  21. It’s the Top of 5th on Friday night. Didn’t read the article - didn’t read any comments. Just wanna say that if SANTANA can hit HR in back to back games, anything is possible. 50 AB’s in …… let’s look again June 10.
  22. ……..when Wallner is banished to AAA - Correa & Lewis are hurt - 6 or 7 other guys are hitting under .200……..Martin, or any warm body hitting .250 plus can be a fan favorite! My point is it’s a low bar as a newcomer. Hope he keeps it up!
  23. Guardians (partial) explanation on record out of the gate. 17-7 & have been mashing the ball - particularly for them! ………They’ve played 7 games v. Oakland & 3 games v. W. SOX……8-2 in those 10 games. Playing well though!! Things will level off. Give them credit. They are 9-5 in other games!
  24. If they are .500 at the end of May I’d be OK with it ……58-57 in mid-August last year. Gotta get Lewis back by mid-June and other guys out of their collective Funk through May. Buxton is a key…….he seems to be warming!
  25. I agree that Farmer has been well below expectations……,however, Crochet hit 98 a couple times - decent slider - 90-92mph change-up……other than Castro’s HR & Martin’s double, not a lot of balls punished by the rest of the group. There’s hope. F. Lindor hit .104 his first 14 games - on fire now. Farmer needs a couple hits to get his mind right, for sure.
