    Dreaming here …….a “good LHRP” for Kyle Farmer? ………trying to figure out how to get a good reliever for 2 prospects & struggling with that. I like Farmer but he doesn’t fit anymore unless they can keep him “injured” until roster expansion in September. If they need 40 man space, which is the basis here, he may need to be DFA’d or dealt for a A ball youngster that isn’t on the 40 man for some time.

    Just trying to give him an opportunity instead of crushing him after he K’d looking 3 times in a game. RH pitcher today and neither would be on the roster after Wednesday. He got a hit Wednesday. Still seems mentally incapable of The Show. Unfortunate. He needs to be off the 26-man and trying to HIT the ball and not trying to pump up his OBP in St Paul……..praising his ability to walk feeds his complacency and reluctance at the plate, IMO. Much rather see the .265 hitter with OBP of .360 v. .220 BA and a .385 OBP. Gotta make things happen in the box and not just kick the can to the next guy ALL THE TIME. Sports psychologist ……needs to free up his mind somehow!

    Okert started the game with the bases empty ……gotta be able to deal with that, he walked the first guy…..I guess any time a guy steps on the mound it’s a key situation? Thielbar came in to end the 5th to get out of a jam with a strikeout…….seemed to do fine in a pretty key situation. He then gave up two runs when starting an inning in middle innings in a tie ballgame - not an overwhelming situation. Neither guy can consistently get guys out - they are 25% of the bullpen - he’s got to use them at some point! He doesn’t set the roster, he manages what he’s got. Neither guy was in high pressure situation - they just didn’t perform!!

    Can’t send both Julien & Lee down. Lee wins out! Sounds like Lewis & Miranda are back for Detroit on Friday……..gotta demote Julien and Camargo.

    Completely agree on Ober - other than innings total capability, SWR looks pretty good as well!! I would get relief rental and try to get Paxton for innings, similar to Kuechel signing last year. James Paxton & Tanner Scott would be performance and $$$ best options. Can drop Varland - Paddack - Topa - Stewart into the current Pen and be awfully strong ……..adding Tanner Scott and Pen would be elite! Bottom line is they need to focus on being better next 3 months - next year either Paddack or Youth holds down the 5th spot. To me, SWR is cemented in the rotation.

    Eddie Julien ……3 K’s in a row looking……would rather have Eddie Brinkman hitting in his spot (old guy thought) …….Julien needs to, as I’ve mentioned before, to see a Sports Psychologist…..not trying to be mean nor funny, I think he’s got some mental block he needs to talk/work through. Whatever is appropriate, he needs help! Maybe Tony Oliva can loosen him up - anything at this point. Lee is really fading offensively!! Martin seemingly has little value until September for pinch running as the “extra guy” on the roster. Not pretty …….maybe not cutting him enough slack but the results are not there for a bit now.

    Wrote a dissertation on this lack of fastball topic separately - where’s the pitching coach and veteran catcher on this subject???? We can see it from our living room……I never get down on coaching but nearly every game he’s struggled, his curve is getting hit all over the park because guys are sitting on it knowing, eventually, he’ll try “to fool them” with the curve. Disappointing when he’s got such good stuff!

    SO VERY OBVIOUS…….he’s in love with his curve……making hitters look silly at times. He threw THREE IN A ROW to Harper….,last one ended up in LF corner. He continually keeps feeding LH hitters curves & many that are up……..do not understand the pitch selection whatsoever!!!……..do we remember the curve hit for HR by Rameriz for a walk-off? Remember, “he didn’t want to throw it…..he was following orders…..”. Maybe it’s coming from the bench? ….,don’t think so….. TIRED of hearing about how his velocity is down…….the post here states he was struggling and only reached 101.7 - come on - struggling?!?!! His velocity is 3-5 miles per hour higher than “the electric fastball” thrown by Griffin Jax. Throw your fastball (first pitch) for a strike - get a call - a fly ball - a groundout, whatever, even a hit. Throwing backwards to be cute is not working…..miss with 2 breaking pitches to start an at bat and then guys know your fastball is coming. Do we think on 3-2 in the 9th last night Castellanos was looking anything but fastball? So glad this is obvious to so many - gotta get it fixed - he’s way too good to have these struggles! He can get hit occasionally - lose a game, he’s human. Not giving himself a chance due to approach sucks!! Does anybody else notice he seems to stick mostly to a 2 pitch mix per outing. It at least seems very skewed to only 2 pitches per appearance. Maybe a philosophical change? Maybe I’m imagining this? Sorry for so many words - his FASTBALL sets up his other 2 pitches…..needs to use it, show it to start in AB’s so it’s planted in the hitter’s heads and eyes.

    Do not get the attraction? He throws .5-1.0 mph harder than Okert. His 5.13 ERA & low strand rate in low 60’s doesn’t scream clutch either. He may come cheaper than others and have longer control than some but he just doesn’t look to be that good. Crossing our fingers with Okert or Thielbar seems to be just as effective………I don’t like that option but Nardi doesn’t move the needle at all, IMO.

    K’s are down from ‘23 because the guys that couldn’t execute are gone …….and Buxton & Correa aren’t playing hurt - period! Michael Taylor - Joey Gallo - Eddie Julien - Matt Wallner - I’m sure there are a couple other guys from last year’s squad I’m forgetting. The Manager sometimes, often, directs comments to the Media as a generalized “statement to the Team” while purposefully expecting those not getting it done to wake up without calling them out directly. Sure, he made his feelings known to the public to put players feet to the fire but isn’t anything he and staff haven’t been preaching long before. Wallner first - then Julien 2nd were sent down because they weren’t getting it nor changing their approach. Hopefully, their changes in St Paul continue through the season!!

    TODAY, you are correct! Meaning, so far this year……3.40 ERA since the first 8 run debacle v. Royals……that’s over 18 starts. I still think over next 70 days Lopez can sharpen up…..small adjustments. Ober made some adjustments after first inning last night & he looked great. Bottom line is Ryan, Lopez, & certainly Ober as well, are playoff worthy pitchers that can be expected to perform and keep Team competitive! Another reason or THE reason my sights are on Tanner Scott for the Pen, singularly.

    Again, we all have opinions. I am not if the opinion that Baldelli walked in the Clubhouse one day late in April and said, make contact and quit swinging for the fences…….guys started to execute the ALASAYS plan of getting the barrel on the ball. Execution got better not some mystical change in philosophy. They just hit HR’s in 29 straight games - guys are still swinging hard!! The win last night being attributed to small ball seems a bit flawed to me since I saw at least 3 balls hit the wall……no HR’s granted. it was hardly hit and run.m baseball though.

    I still don’t get the rationale……doesn’t really matter……if 5 guys leave…..that’s essentially 20% of the roster. Margot - Farmer - Thielbar - Santana - Kepler……cannot imagine a Team that’s winning and in the hunt for the Division wanting to change more than 20% of their 26 man roster.

    But if Schobel has no trade value thinking he can help get Kikuchi doesn’t add up to me. Seldom under age 23-24 is the number you showed, 29 + 7 = 36, out of 780 roster spots….around 4%. I’m saying the team will be younger w/o the group above and it seemed you thought they wouldn’t because everyone is essentially over 25. If THIS YEAR needs to be seized regularly, as I would agree, a Team can’t bring guys up “to give them a chance……” just to see what happens. I could care less if Kiersey ever steps on Target Field if the Team is winning! There’s 13 roster spots to be utilized to help win games……that’s what the organization is focused on in ‘24 and in any year that they can sniff the playoffs.

    Shedding Kepler - Santana - Farmer - Thielbar is fairly significant, IMO, going into ‘25. ……regardless, almost always want to push to WIN NOW! Over age 25 is hardly old in baseball……. seldom see guys under 23-24 coming into the League. Can’t get anxious because a guy’s going to be 27 or 28! Schobel has nearly zero trade value - he’s not netting a starter that 5 other Teams will try to get.

    Trade stuff OUTSIDE PITCHING thread: Essentially every comment about the Twins since beginning of ‘23 is that they need another RH bat……..I don’t see any worth in spending prospect capital here. Stick with pitching needs. Martin - Margot - Jeffers - Buxton - Correa - Miranda - Santana - Lee - Castro - Lewis …..that’s 10 guys that are in the mix and hitting LH pitching, or anticipated to hit LH pitching. That’s enough!

    I struggle with the, not wanting to give anything up approach. The reason to acquire someone is to ensure (help) getting into the playoffs. It’s not worth the organizations 16th prospect to get to this end? There is always competition for players at the deadline - I think minds need to be more open to actually making something happen for the betterment of ‘24 outcome.

    Obviously, there’s a reason for wanting every guy to perform well and some rationale. Not saying you disagree just pointing out some positives here. To me, Duran has been just fine and continuing his first half will work. He missed first 3-4 weeks and still has 15 saves. I think he’s 5-4…….one game was tough luck & 3 were due to homers on breaking stuff hanging in the zone……it happens. Consecutive days made it tough to stomach!! His velocity dropping from 103 to 101 seems awfully critical to me. His curve is still 86 mph & his splinker at 96-97. Stay healthy is my hope for him!

    If Twins get a rental, I really hope the target is Tanner Scott. IMO, the need for lefty is more of a spot insertion later in the game. If a lefty starts the line-up is often skewed to handle that initially. Scott would help with a deficiency in the bullpen with a very sharp lefty. I think, with some risk, a Paxton type gets the starts that may be needed, allowing the focus to be on acquiring Scott.

    No responses……that’s not good!! Gotta think it’s a coin toss between Varland & Festa - right? Do they ever give Dobnack a shot to see if he can catch fire for 2-3 starts? Don’t think his stuff plays but neither did Kuechel’s last year.
