If Lewis goes 1-14 when he comes back do you want him to be moved from 3rd to 8th in the line-up? ………Managers play, they manage, based on % of success. It’s a 162 game season and this typically makes an awfully lot of sense. How many hits does Julien have v. LH pitching this year? He’s got 10 total hits so I don’t think it’s some big wave of productivity. He’s hitting .169……..if he’s not hitting RH pitching, which he is supposed to be proficient at, why would anyone expect him to excel against LH pitching at some high rate?

I think Carlos Santana looks like he should be playing in an Old Timers League ……I think Willi Castro was reading about his success all winter on the net & thinks he’s better than he is…….,I think Kyle Farmer should turn the pitching gun up to 97 mph and spend about 20 minutes a day trying to get his reflexes in line with MLB pitching. Players need to get to work & figure it out! You seem to be the one who thinks they know how they are being coached - “poorly”. I’ve repeatedly pointed out that the players need to take responsibility & perform. My comment about Jax is if he felt strong enough about not throwing a change-up - Shake It Off! ………if you feel compelled that you NEED to throw it EXECUTE!! Middle-middle isn’t the spot for any pitch other than an occasional 3-0 fastball.

The Twins' Playoff Odds Have Taken a Significant Hit
JD-TWINS replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
How many “man games” did they lose to injury in ‘22? Had to start Celestino in CF for long stretches - brutal roster on the field for the most part the 2nd half. Players matter.- 33 replies

The Twins' Playoff Odds Have Taken a Significant Hit
JD-TWINS replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Sure they count - the losses! I’m not anointing him best Manager ever but he’s not a buffoon that’s repeatedly costing the Team games - they can’t hit! The other 100 games they have between now & mid-August count too. Last year they were 58-57 in mid-August. Can they achieve that - a real shot - with their regular players? If coaching is so influential with player production, do we really think he carried the hitters, along with his hitting coach in 2019? Same in a shortened ‘20 when ball was reversed? FOUR starters are not playing……,how is that a coaching issue? Remove the left side of the infield and both expected corner OF off ANY club in the game and what are the chances of success? Their top prospect and left side depth piece is hurt at AAA. Can’t manage that away. My point about ‘23 is if everyone essentially got fixed, got right, by late July……..,did everyone forget the process? Again, players have to play & perform. Division Winners in 3 of 5 seasons he’s managed……………still don’t see the problem. I guess we agree to disagree.- 33 replies

The Twins' Playoff Odds Have Taken a Significant Hit
JD-TWINS replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Wins - Losses with reasonably performing players…….the only way to critique a manager. If 4 presumed starters are out, the Manager is toast. Take 4 starters out of the Big Red Machine……..Rose(3B) - Foster(LF) - Concepcion(SS) are all hurt and young guy, Dreesen is hitting .050. They look a lot different at that point……..particularly if Morgan - Geronimo are stinking it up. A hitting coach can’t screw up 8 guys at the same time - these are grown men - professional hitters, not 16 year olds. SAME coaches as 2nd half of 2023 season.- 33 replies

The Twins' Playoff Odds Have Taken a Significant Hit
JD-TWINS replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Wallner - Buxton - Kepler - Julien ……,none performing …,……..,SAME coaches as July - September of ‘23. Accurate? “Twin’s guys.” Accurate? Jeffers - Kirilloff (Twin’s guys) seeking advice from the Brewer’s hitting coach for success?? Castro had best success of his career last year after being exposed to the poisonous coaching in MN. Farmer hit .255 in ‘23 - dead on his career BA…..had the same coaches then as now - maybe they weren’t able to poison him in just 1 season? Correa hit .290 in ‘22……. .230 in ‘23 while injured …….. .306 so far in ‘24 Margot has been OK through career at best - Santana was/is washed from the left side (well sighted fact pointed out when he was acquired)……at 38, he should be able to figure it out IMO! Players play. …….,,,is Corey Seager asking the batting coach in Texas how to hit every other day?? Just don’t get the excuse of “it’s coaches” when swinging at pitches down, out of the zone & taking fastballs in the zone……watching Buxton flail at a slider or sinker out of the zone for the first pitch from EVERY GUY he faces is an adjustment a hitter needs to make between his ears…..,Do the hitters need a psychologist to clean up their minds, maybe?- 33 replies

TIRED of hearing about the “hitter’s woes” because of some fictitious excuse of “it’s how they are being coached”. Nobody is coaching a 38 year old Santana to anything….,,,nobody is coaching Vazquez to do anything but make good contact - not coaching him to swing for home runs, ridiculous - Castro has great speed and refuses to hunt to get on - Margot is in his 9th & Buxton in his 10 season …..,they should have a pretty good feel for what works for them. I saw here the other day that Jeffers & Kirilloff are ignoring “the coaching” & that’s why they are succeeding…….just silly. Same coaches that were in place when the offense was scorching the League for last 2.5 months of ‘23. Throw the change-up knees or lower - not middle-middle - knees or lower & it’s effective. Gotta execute as players. Not comfortable, shake it off. ….,,pitchers have been doing that since the beginning of time in baseball. Does seem like most here are excusing the players, 4 of whom aren’t on the 26 man……3 hurt & Wallner………(7 hitting under .200 - not counting Wallner) and placing the blame that they are at 40-65% of their career BA’s on the F.O. & coaching.

Two points regarding this post: ………the Tigers let 2 Fly Balls land in the OF in the same inning last night and it cost them 2 runs……..Ryan got pinched on strike 3, the guy walked & scored after he should have been the 3rd out. That’s baseball. The Astros are 7-14 this year.

The Twins' Playoff Odds Have Taken a Significant Hit
JD-TWINS replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
IMO, you gotta be kidding. It’s “coaching”? Wallner disappeared……Lewis got in 2AB’s, IL…..,,10 year vet in RF out after a handful of games, IL………”leader”, SS on IL in the second week of season…..,,.#3, #4, #5, & #7 hitters OUT! Top prospect is hurt, IL. The guy Polanco was traded for, Topa, has been out hurt along with Duran for first 18 games. Lopez - Ober - Ryan have pitched 4 times giving up one run or none and they lost all four with no run support. .252 career BA hitting .088 - Farmer .256 career BA hitting .121 - Vazquez .245 career BA hitting .134 - Castro .255 career BA hitting .179 - Margot .241 career BA hitting .121 - Santana .240 career BA hitting .197 - Buxton .250 career BA hitting .169 - Julien 7 guys under .200 …. most, considerably under .200! The F.O. signed/hired the guys in the left column - that’s who Baldelli is supposed to be managing. Dick Williams, Billy Martin, Tony LaRussa, Bruce Bochy couldn’t win with this type of offensive output. Can’t see how coaching “professional athletes” on how to hit at this point in their careers is a real topic?- 33 replies

Trying to get a spark into a listless, pathetic line-up. If the guys he pinch hits for have a better % chance of getting a hit in a particular match-up, he doesn’t pinch hit. From my view you apparently think his substitutions at the plate are a problem and others don’t think he can manage a bullpen. To me it just seems like senseless complaining to cover for a POOR PERFORMING offense & at times, pitching. They are down 4 guys assumed to be core part of their line-up. Wallner - Kepler - Correa - Lewis…….the # 3, 4, 5, & 7 hitters. Bad situation!! He puts guys in situations to succeed and they need to do it or it’s on them!

How did the Manager lose the game?……,catch the ball in the 1st at home………Thielbar needs to get 3 outs …………he can’t hit FOR them…….their pitcher had 8K’s in the middle of the 4th inning - terrible hitting. Neither Kirilloff nor Larnach can ground out to 2B to score a run - both K - pathetic. ……Santana - Castro should bunt every other time they come up because they can’t hit………Castro has speed and the 3rd baseman was shifted to SS (3 AB’s) - BUNT!!!! Don't see, didn’t see how managing has any part of the debacle.

Is It Time for the Twins to Shuffle the Coaching Staff?
JD-TWINS replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I do not understand the “let’s fire the F.O.” nor the “coaching staff needs to go” mentality. One writer says, Kirilloff, Lewis & Martin are pure hitters and don’t pay attention to the coaching. Jeffers & Miranda & Julien have modified their approach to more contact. If the 6 guys above are on the same team as the 7-8 other guys that haven’t hit. I don’t get how the F.O. or the hitting coach are at fault? The players need to hit the ball - not Falvey & not Popkins. Same F.O. & hitting coach as last year and in early July they took off and looked better than good the rest of the way. Lewis - Kepler - Wallner have contributed nearly zero. Not the batting coach nor the F.O.’s fault. 10 days ago Jeffers sucked and was a regressing mess - now, on his own with no poisonous coaching, he’s fixed himself. Seriously? Guys get hurt - some are washed (Santana & Vazquez possibly) - guys start slow…….it’s baseball. Bailey Ober got absolutely rocked in his Game 1 throwing 1 1/3 innings and since has given up 1 run & 6 hits over 11 innings……did he get coached up in his four days off? 6-11 is no fun. 4 or 5 wins in the 7 game home-stand and things look better. If they can reach .500 by end of May & have everyone back & healthy, they’re just fine. They were 58-57 last year in the middle of August. SWR & Festa & Duran to the rescue in May!!- 72 replies

Agree with all the positivity!! Would really like Byron to level off (to the good) on both sides of the plate (offense & defense). Martin isn’t a big star but he’s a guy you need around and a consistent contributor! Staff has been good, overall. CC back by May 1. Healthy Lewis & Lee and it’s up with a bullet once we get to June. Hope the hypnotism is working on Wallner!!!

Can’t win scoring two runs. Pablo deserved better. I too thought he might go one more - no problem with him getting pulled though. 2 hits & zero walks…..ouch! Can they win 5 of 7 on the Home-stand? Maeda gave up a bunch today for Detroit - Urshella butchered a run down tag - maybe the Tigers are reverting back to their real level of about 80 total wins.

If he was a competent pitcher in his 20’s he’d have that opportunity. …….I like Caleb but it’s not “baseball’s fault” that he left the game due to essentially washing out and then found something and came back at 31. Am really glad he has had success!! I agree - unless Okert tears up his arm this year - I don’t see Thielbar back with the Twins next year, regardless of his possible success this year. ……..Okert is signed & Funderburk looks good in small pieces of 2 different years.

Who is keeping Camargo out of the lineup?
JD-TWINS replied to Riverbrian's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
When the Team isn’t winning, I’m not reaching and sitting the guy I know is going to catch at least 70 games for me this season to HOPE a rookie can get a hit, before he’s sent back down as guy’s get healthy over the next 10 days. Vazquez top 10-12 defensively in ‘23 - right or am I way off? …….compared to “Camargo must be able to catch”……..”let’s give him a shot” ……..it’s not Legion Ball and Camargo is a Sophomore. I might let him travel with the Legion Team in case a guy gets hurt - that’s it though. If we’re up late 7-1, he’s in there. Down big as in Baltimore, he should be in there.- 51 replies

Who is keeping Camargo out of the lineup?
JD-TWINS replied to Riverbrian's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I love Kiersey after last year in St Paul - wasn’t sure what he’s doing this year. He’d have to displace Larnach……..may be a while. Frankly, .280 in AAA may translate to .270 all the way down to .100 in the Show. Nobody knows. I get it, give him a chance! Vazquez throws (has done it in 3 different games I’ve seen) guys out - handles the pitchers well & is familiar. Camargo has an uphill challenge unless they give him a shot at DH when Jeffers catches. With platooning catchers daily, there is no fatigue issue. He doesn’t move the needle hitting .210 and being no better, for sure, defensively.- 51 replies

Three Offseason Decisions Already Hurting the Twins
JD-TWINS replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
So you think $2.5M spread to Farmer (3.75 - 6.25) is somehow a number that moves the needle to make the Team better elsewhere? Don’t see it. He was out a month last year after getting hit in the face………..still played in 120 games. If you start as a Platoon guy & the team goes to a RH pitcher, you get PH for by Julien every time…….if you bat 7th-9th in the line-up & nobody hits, you get 3 AB’s max. His AB’s through 17 games are 31 with 6 walks & on via error once. Not sure where you are getting the 12 & 10 PA data = 22 PA’s……. his total is 38. He’s played in 13 of 17 games as well. Santana & Vazquez are the offensive disaster signings. $5.5M & $10M………but I firmly believe these guys aren’t overpaid, because you can’t pay them little enough to have value, offensively. They are a disaster - Vazquez not quite as bad. Farmer plays 15-20 games at 3B with Lewis healthy. He plays 15-20 games at SS with Correa healthy. He starts 40 games as platoon 2B. Defensive replacement late, maybe 15 games. That’s 85 assuming the minimum.- 144 replies

Three Offseason Decisions Already Hurting the Twins
JD-TWINS replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Kepler - Wallner (Larnach) - Lewis - Correa all in the line-up allow Castro to play OF or DH from the left side of the plate, in front of Santana as an option. Kirilloff at 1B v. RH pitching. Santana is a back-up when being considered as a left handed hitter…….under normal circumstances. He starts 4/2 - 4/3 or whenever because of the ripple effect of Lewis being out & Castro playing 3B v. RH pitching……,if Lewis plays Castro is in line-up v. Santana, IMO.- 144 replies

Three Offseason Decisions Already Hurting the Twins
JD-TWINS replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Just because Farmer didn’t expect the “organization would pay him” with their salary contraction doesn’t mean he’s expensive. $6.5 million is not expensive when you have roughly 15 guys making the minimum. He’s the depth at 3B - SS - 2B, not just a short side of a platoon. With a fully healthy roster Farmer starts 80 games minimum. What if they signed him for a frugal $1.5 million reduction to ‘23’s salary for $3.75 million - is that more tolerable? He isn’t hitting - that’s the sole problem. Whether he’s playing 3B - 2B - SS seems immaterial to me. If Lewis were playing, IMO, Farmer would play SS in Correa’s absence. Castro would be in the OF as was the plan coming into the season. That frees up, on current roster, Kirilloff to play 1B whenever Rocco sees fit. I guess, if they think Santana’s a good option from the left side as “the every day guy” he would have started v. a right handed pitcher yesterday instead of right handed hitting Miranda……good bet anyway.- 144 replies

Three Offseason Decisions Already Hurting the Twins
JD-TWINS replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
How many games did Julien play - has he ever played at 1B? The Team’s comments in the Spring was “defense” would matter in playing time. (certainly doesn’t suggest Julien’s jumping ahead of anyone at 1B with his history) The Media - TD people theorized he was playing everyday. He can’t hit from the left side - appears to be questionable from right side. His role was depth with Miranda being a big question mark. He fits perfectly as a right/left platoon with Kirilloff. Injuries have forced him into the line-up. Kepler (injury) - Wallner (ineptitude) - Larnach (injury) have pulled Kirilloff into the OF refularly. Farmer is expensive on a team that cut payroll 20% ….,……how much more costly is he this year v. last year? Maybe $1.2M? Farmer isn’t hitting right now or he’d be “a great value”. April 17th.- 144 replies

Who is keeping Camargo out of the lineup?
JD-TWINS replied to Riverbrian's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
If you just want to be contrary say so. He’s a ROOKIE! Am assuming they have more confidence in interaction with the pitcher from a guy they signed due to his defensive prowess AND the ability to interact with the staff. Obviously, I think he’s physically capable of catching in MLB. If Camargo is sent down this morning it has no affect on the Club. He’s insurance to not get into a pinch with Jeffers forced into DH spot.- 51 replies

Who is keeping Camargo out of the lineup?
JD-TWINS replied to Riverbrian's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I just think they are afraid of what pitcher to start him with……when would it make sense? Having him DH instead of how Vazquez did the other day is absolutely mystifying. He’s easily worth a shot in that scenario! He may get a pinch hit opportunity soon. If Jeffers keeps hitting everyday, his time will come. ……,Martin didn’t see the field for a bit - he’s playing now after circumstances changed. Kepler & Wallner, with minimum expectations of .230 BA & Correa minimum at .260 & Lewis minimum at .280………..,without these guys and LEE being out, the Team can’t absorb Zero from those 5 guys. Looking to Camargo to fill any void isn’t the answer (I get he deserves a chance) ………how about Buxton & Vazquez & others picking it up a bit?- 51 replies

Who is keeping Camargo out of the lineup?
JD-TWINS replied to Riverbrian's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
He’s there to allow Jeffers to DH w/o risk. It gives them a comfort feeling and the ability to potentially pinch hit for Vazquez later in a game. Should another guy have his roster spot - certainly debatable with the shambles that is the present OF. Already have 3 guys to play 1B, so another HITTING outfielder is only option - don’t know who that may be in St. Paul ? He can only displace Vazquez in the line-up and putting him into a line-up that’s struggling probably isn’t optimal. I get the frustration with offense!!- 51 replies
