  1. Giolito is now a high ceiling, low floor pitcher. You can pick your years and say he will be either one in the future.
  2. One of Wallner's best attributes in the minors was adjusting to each level. He seemed to start out terribly slow at each level but would figure it out and dominate. Up to the next level and the same thing would happen. That's what I'm counting on from Wallner in the majors as well, adjusting to pitchers and being a good player.
  3. Maybe people are just trying to lower expectations so everyone is happy when he does well, right?................ Yea, I didn't think so either.
  4. You ought to check out 2023. Rocco pitched the starters more innings per start than most teams in the league, within 3 total innings of being #1 in all of baseball.
  5. Agreed. High walk rate and great plate discipline with his power is the reason I don't trade him. There's going to be some frustrated pitchers when E-Rod and Julien are with the Twins and they refuse to swing at the pitches that are an inch off the plate (with robo umps in MLB by 2025).
  6. Agreed. It is hard to get any hitting rhythm playing one game in a week or maybe two. If being in the AFL just makes his defense improve, I will look to next year to see how he is hitting when he again is playing 4-5 games per week.
  7. Yes, in the 4th-6th innings when Gladden leads, I'm always wondering what actually happened. I sometimes check the computer to find out but that doesn't tell you everything either. Often Provus fills in what Dan missed.
  8. There's more one reason (other than finances) - if you think Polanco's body has too many miles on it and he will keep getting injured. I believe the injuries have really affected his defense as he doesn't look the same, even at 2B. You might be able to trade for a decent pitcher now but not get anything for him if he goes down for 60 games again in 2024. Not sure the Twins even know this answer so it's a guessing game whether he will keep getting injured.
  9. Many interesting roster decisions for the Twins this year with when Lee arrives to be one of them. As stated above, if the Twins want a chance at an extra #1 draft pick, Lee has to be up with the Twins in the first half of April. But in making out the roster, the Twins basically have to decide if they are going to try this over the winter. It could affect Lewis moving to CF, Polanco not being on the team, etc. Go for the #1 draft pick and trust that Lee can adjust and grow with the Twins, or get an extra year of service time. I don't see the Twins holding Lee back so much that he is still classified as a Rookie in 2025.
  10. I believe someone is giving Taylor a 2 year deal and it won't be the Twins. Buxton is the plan but I see DH at best. Rocco and Falvey plan to have Lewis at 3B as they foresee and expect that. But what is the easiest, cheapest (allowing spending elsewhere), and highest quality (both the bat and glove) solution that also clears up the infield log jam - Lewis in CF. I will beat that drum until the Twins sign someone who is a starting CF or Rocco/Falvey guarantee that Lewis is staying at 3B (or SS if Correa would be injured). Lee is coming in 2024 by mid-season and he has to play somewhere. Want less SO's and and a good mix or power/speed on the team, this midseason lineup/bench would give it to us IMO - Jeffers, Kirilloff, Julien, Correa, Lee, Wallner, Lewis, Kepler, Buxton with a bench of Castro, Martin, Vasquez and maybe Farmer to hit lh's.
  11. Okay, except @ashbury is quoting "foresee" and "anticipate". I don't see anything emphatic in that but I see that is the plan. Plans do change though.................. especially if the "plan" is for Buxton to be in CF.
  12. Yes in all areas mentioned except for the one question mark - hitting. Was this a one year blip, a new level he will continue or will he actually continue to do better with the bat? I'm guessing it will drop a little in 2024 just because he is free swinger. The rest of his game is so good, making him a great flexible player to have on the bench, when a player is injured or needs a break, etc.
  13. I would like to see that quote on Lewis that Rocco or Falvey have guaranteed that Lewis won't play CF. During the season, I heard Rocco say Lewis is staying at 3B this year because we don't want to move him around during his rookie year. If Buxton can't play CF, Lewis is currently our best CF, offensively and defensively (and it isn't a position where players get hurt more at as documented in other threads). It puts an athletic player into an athletic position. It also clears out some of our logjam in the infield and gives us more payroll flexibility.
  14. There is an incentive to "rush" Lee to the Twins (compare the talk about Lee to SWR - Lee is the new guy who needs more time at AAA according to some and SWR is never going to be good because he's been in the minors seemingly forever - they are basically the same age). Win the Rookie of the Year and the team gets an extra #1 pick. Those are gold to teams like the Twins and many others. I can't see the Twins making sure Lee gets less than 130 AB's on the team so he has a great chance at ROY in 2025 (if so, we keep Polanco) as we always have injuries. What is better - one more year of service time (guaranteed) or ROY (not guaranteed). If Polanco is on the team next spring, the Twins plan to have Lee at AAA.
  15. He was at the beginning but he did improve as he was up here. Still below average but there are a number of below average 2B in MLB that have a great bat.
  16. Nobody is taking Salas in the Rule 5 draft and keeping him on their MLB roster for all of 2024. He doesn't play SS, is only 1 year younger than Noah Miller and hits far worse than Miller.
  17. I'd like to think he can help the Twins in 2024 but he probably will be on a severe innings limit. I believe the Twins have confidence that he will be great as he has occupied and will occupy the 40 man roster a LONG time without pitching in MLB. Maybe in the Twins bullpen in mid-2024 and then see if he can return to being a starter in 2025 if everything goes well.
  18. Jeffers thrived when playing 50% of the time. He will have to show that the wear and tear of catching 60% doesn't affect him. The playoffs certainly didn't support Jeffers playing every day. Maybe he just does great when he is healthy and playing half time.
  19. No, Varland will be #5 in the rotation or the next man up if we sign someone that would start the season ahead of him (assuming no injuries - a big assumption).
  20. Castro, Lewis and Martin would be my main base stealers. Julien is on first so much and stole bases in the minors and will get his share. Gordon has never been a great base stealer and I don't think he will be on the roster come spring training. Taylor was such a HR/SO guy so he had less chances to steal than other guys who are on the team the full year.
  21. Nice to see Rosario with a great week. I've been down on him the past two weeks when he almost had no hits.
  22. " Nick Gordon broke out in 2022 but broke his leg early in the season, but utility man Willi Castro stepped up and nearly matched Gordon's 2022 statistics." I disagree - Castro surpassed 2022 Gordon in defensive positions played well, speed, stealing, arm strength. Everything except hitting stats.
  23. The Twins have depth in their organization at 2B/SS/3B and not catcher. Therefore, I'm not trading Jeffers.
  24. Luplow De León Stevenson Gordon Ortega Henriquez Balazovic Alcala Moran I think Stevenson will be DFA'd but then the Twins will try get him back with the Saints. Moran shouldn't even be on this list. No way he is cut.
