  1. Amazing how the Twins perform with Lewis and without Lewis. His attitude energizes everyone.
  2. After 7 batters today, Wichita has 6 runs with homers by Rosario and Cardenas.
  3. Question - if Michael Helman is called up, say in September, and remains on the Twins for the rest of the season, did he use an option year because he was with the Saints or does the clock start AFTER a player is called up?
  4. I just think that stacked team from Cedar Rapids last year is now at Wichita, with more great pitching left at Cedar Rapids ready to move up. Rodriguez, Schobel, Cossetti and Rosario are going to be fun to watch this year. Speaking of Cedar Rapids, their pitching is doing great (Morris yesterday and Klein today). They just can't hit anything, other than Gonzalez.
  5. Helman is an excellent defender. He plays CF more than LF and RF. Over 600 innings there and only 2 errors. His speed is right up there with Kiersey, maybe one notch below. Helman has been playing SS as well. To me, it tells me, if the Twins have 1 or 2 injuries, Helman would get the call first, before Kiersey, and they want him to get some games in at CF. Just guessing.
  6. 60 Day IL - If he even gets going this year, he will be starting as if it's the beginning of spring training. I agree with you, if he's helping the Twins at the end of the year, it will be in the bullpen.
  7. I believe the Twins have tried to lower their SO's this year, understanding that HR's will be lower. The trouble is that we have only lowered homers so far. I think Taylor isn't here because the Twins wanted less SO's. But Margot is worse so far. The four worst % SO guys so far are Buxton, Wallner, Castro and Margot. Buxton is streaky so he will improve. Wallner has to hit homers and SO's will come with that. Castro and Margot have to put the bat on the ball more. The lowest OPS guys on the team are Kepler, Farmer, Vazquez, Margot and Castro. That's all of our bench, 3B and RF. SSS so far. The players just have to improve.
  8. Jenkins injury news is like Royce Lewis going down. It ruins the good news. But there was some good pitching news. Andrew Morris was great for Cedar Rapids on the mound. Raya was good and and Ross Dunn had a good outing in Fort Myers. The Twins continue to be ultra conservative with Raya and Festa. Listened to some of the Saints game and the announcers knew in the first inning that Festa was going about 3 innings. The Twins must really be beefing up their international program. If I counted correctly, 12 of the 16 hitters with Fort Myers are from the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and Mexico. There's another dozen, pitchers and hitters, on Cedar Rapids. AA and AAA combined only has about a half dozen.
  9. Walker Jenkins strikes out in the first and is out with an injury after making a catch in the 2nd inning. Ugh!
  10. Hey, we just got Diego Castillo! No, not the pitcher, but another player by the exact same name. This guy plays the infield. Not sure why we need him. Isn't Brooks Lee coming back by May?
  11. I guess some guys get shoulder fatigue in ramping up for the season. 80% of the time it is nothing. Don't ask about the other 20%. (per the guys on Destination The Show)
  12. Yes. Everyone says the finger issue is behind him. But he has games without any walks and then he has games with more walks than innings pitched. He has to be a consistent low walk guy in order to get back to MLB.
  13. We miss Lewis' clutch hitting, which also seems contagious. A .500 record at the end of April with Duran and Lewis (and others) out would be just fine with me.
  14. Miranda playing 3B is interesting. Were we on TD just speculating he was done at 3B or did the Lewis injury change the plans? His bat seems just fine. Maybe the Twins are willing to have his defense at 3B for the first 6 or 7 innings of games, especially with Farmer and Castro not starting out very good from the hitting side (very SSS I know).
  15. This is where Rocco is making Julien not hitting lh's a self-fulfilling prophecy. He faces 1 lefty in a week and then when he is forced to face another one, he's supposed to be great at it so he doesn't get taken out of games for the next week. Give the guy a chance against lh's, especially in the 4th inning.
  16. Very nice start to the season for SWR. It would really help if he pitches like this and would be ready to pitch for the Twins when needed.
  17. Grateral moved to the 60 day IL. Ouch!
  18. No. For some reason, the rosters are still missing a few guys. Like Cory Lewis.
  19. No, it isn't. The professional ranking systems rank the 2024 Twins minor league prospect rankings anywhere from #9 to #17 or so. None rank the Twins as "super bad."
  20. Wichita's roster was the weakest last year. NOT this year. Nowlin, Ohl, Raya and Adams in the rotation. E-Rod, Rosario, Schobel, Cardenas, Cossetti, etc at the plate. They should be very good. Cedar Rapids - you get to watch some great pitching (Matthews, MacLeod, Morris, Culpepper and Bowen in the rotation). Fort Myers - if anyone can hit in that pitchers league, it's these guys (Jenkins, Rodriguez, Chourio, Doncon, Winokur). Let the fun begin! And as @jmlease1 said, Cory Lewis has to be added to one of these teams, presumably Wichita.
  21. That's because the Twins starters were so good last year and went deep into games. The long man in the pen isn't going to be someone they think will be great someday. Those guys can't sit in the bullpen for two weeks without pitching. As @Danchat said, one long outing and he's on the train to St. Paul for the next guy to wait for his long outing. Most, if not all, teams use that last man in the pen (long man) this way. Hopefully Sands improves but I don't think he will.
  22. Amazing how much better some of the bullpen guys have started out vs. how they looked in spring training.
  23. It will be. I believe the Twins like to manage many of the young guys total innings and start by doing this early in the season. Festa was throwing 6 innings in the playoffs in 2022 with Cedar Rapids. Last year, he wasn't as dominant and thus threw more pitches, which limited his per game innings pitched more in AA. I would really like to see his walks return to 2022 level.
