Their young for arbitration and free agency maybe. But that's not really the meaning of young. But I also don't think it's bad to begin your major league career at age 25-27, especially considering the lost covid year for some. Plenty of guys do well starting at that age.

Interesting decision for the Twins on who plays SS in the minors at the different levels this year. I see both De Andrade and Miller as the primary SS's on their team. If you hold Miller back at Cedar Rapids at the beginning of the season for his confidence/improvement of his bat before going to Wichita, then you hold De Andrade back. Or are we pushing both up a level right away at the beginning of the year?

Twins Daily 2024 Top 20 Prospects: Recap & Analysis
FlyingFinn replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Agreed. Miller is in my top 10. His defensive ratings at SS were well ahead of every SS in the minors in 2023, at any level. At a minimum, that will get him to the majors IMO as great defensive SS's aren't easy to find, at least for a bench position. It's not like he is old at 21 years of age. His bat really improved in the 2nd half of last year. If that continues to improve, his ceiling is high.- 29 replies

No, he is not a catching option except in emergency. Lucky for Vasquez because he would be gone if Williams had even an average catching ability. Isola is also not going to be a catcher in the majors as he plays more games at DH and 1B than catcher.

Agreed. Now, what if the Twins are healthy and doing well in the infield for most of the year and Lee is doing well in St. Paul? There is a point where the team keeps him at AAA long enough to make sure he still qualifies for ROY in 2025. (I'm not quite up on the rules that eliminates rookie status) Great problem to have for 2025 if this all happens in 2024. Of Lee, Julien, Correa and Lewis, none are first basemen (Julien's played a bit there) and only one could play in the OF. This would be a super problem to have next off-season.

Just looking for the next Stewart of 2023 to suddenly appear. All you need is for one guy to pan out in 2024 out of all of these pitchers signed for it to be worth it. Just don't make a mistake and get rid of the wrong guys from your own organization (Coulumbe, Cano). Relief pitchers can range wildly, from terrible one year to good the next for a myriad of reasons.

Twins Daily 2024 Top Prospects: #6 Austin Martin, IF/OF
FlyingFinn replied to Steve Lein's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I think the only reason is to have Martin starting 6 days per week instead of maybe 3 to 4 with the Twins if everyone is healthy. -
He was scheduled to be in long relief for the Mariners if what I read was correct. Could fit the same role for the Twins and be a spot starter if someone gets a minor injury. Of course, if we are spending $ on a good starting pitcher, we may want to ship him out along with his contract.

Agreed for hitters. The right trade for a #2 starter would certainly fit though as well.

The Jorge Polanco Trade Fails the Simplest of Tests
FlyingFinn replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins have really done exactly what they told us that they would this offseason. Falvey said we are lowering payroll. Check. Rocco says a big move is coming. Check. The Twins really believe in Brooks Lee. I'm surprised they are as open as they have been. Now, did Falvey say it?, we are going to add a RH bat who can play OF or maybe 1B. Duvall really checks those boxes IMO. -

Blow up the rankings. Gonzalez, just acquired from the Mariners has to be about #4 or #5.- 19 replies

Twins Top Prospect Battles: Who Has the Best Tools?
FlyingFinn replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Didn't realize Cardenas was such a good defensive catcher. He's moving up in my ratings as he's also got a decent bat.- 18 replies

Joey Gallo to the Nationals, 1 year 5 million with incentives
FlyingFinn replied to Cory Engelhardt's topic in Other Baseball
Whew, was starting to get concerned we would re-sign him. -
Agreed. And if we find someone better, see if we can DFA him and pass him through, down to AAA.

What Can the Twins Steal in 2024?
FlyingFinn replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Agreed. I believe he was also a little injured In August which may have held him back from stealing more bases. He has average speed and refuses to take walks so I don't think he steals many bases, if he even makes the team.- 22 replies

Martin, Helmin (great in 2022 at AAA, injured in 2023) and Prato (great at AAA and terrible at AA last year) are all utility guys currently at AAA so the Twins certainly have options at the utility position.

Agreed. I will say that the Twins not doing anything yet about CF seems to mean that is what the Twins think will happen. Last year they got Taylor because they had serious doubts.

I like these moves. Very low risk. Just don't forget to look closely at our own pitchers who are about to breakout and have a good year in the pen - thinking of Cano and Coulumbe in 2023.

Where Will Jorge Polanco Be Traded?
FlyingFinn replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I understand if someone thinks he would be great, won't get injured again and shouldn't be traded. I also understand if someone thinks there are way too many miles on his legs, will continue to get injured and his defense has gotten bad (can't play 3B or SS at all now) and we should trade him. What I don't understand are the people who say he's great for the Twins but that we won't get anything for him in a trade. -
Resolutions for the Twins to Adopt in 2024
FlyingFinn replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He comes from the robo umps in the minors and actually knows the strike zone better than the umps. Look at the strike calls he disagrees with and 90% of the time they are outside the strike zone box (of course, this is assuming that strike zone box is correct). I also strongly disagree with Ted Williams type veterans getting smaller strike zones than rookies. Just call a strike a strike.- 26 replies

Projecting the 2027 Twins Lineup
FlyingFinn replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't think Jenkins will end up as a CF. By 2027, Buxton is either in CF or not playing. Fun to think about.- 53 replies
