  1. I don't mind this fix to the Coulumbe mistake. Gordon was obviously not in the plans for opening day anyway. 2nd lefty over Funderburk. An injury could even mean three lefties at times.
  2. Just looking for the next Stewart of 2023 to suddenly appear. All you need is for one guy to pan out in 2024 out of all of these pitchers signed for it to be worth it. Just don't make a mistake and get rid of the wrong guys from your own organization (Coulumbe, Cano). Relief pitchers can range wildly, from terrible one year to good the next for a myriad of reasons.
  3. I think the only reason is to have Martin starting 6 days per week instead of maybe 3 to 4 with the Twins if everyone is healthy.
  4. What about Ryan, Schobel and E-Rod? If Luzardo is that good, the Marlins do get their potential future 2B and OF in a couple years with a SP who should be good as well then. Twins get the upgrade at the top end of our starting rotation, which I think is needed in the playoffs.
  5. He was scheduled to be in long relief for the Mariners if what I read was correct. Could fit the same role for the Twins and be a spot starter if someone gets a minor injury. Of course, if we are spending $ on a good starting pitcher, we may want to ship him out along with his contract.
  6. I predict Schobel or Keaschall will be part of significant trade package over the next year. They are just so similar and it's not like we are projecting infield holes to fill with the Twins anytime soon.
  7. Agreed for hitters. The right trade for a #2 starter would certainly fit though as well.
  8. The Twins have really done exactly what they told us that they would this offseason. Falvey said we are lowering payroll. Check. Rocco says a big move is coming. Check. The Twins really believe in Brooks Lee. I'm surprised they are as open as they have been. Now, did Falvey say it?, we are going to add a RH bat who can play OF or maybe 1B. Duvall really checks those boxes IMO.
  9. Blow up the rankings. Gonzalez, just acquired from the Mariners has to be about #4 or #5.
  10. Didn't realize Cardenas was such a good defensive catcher. He's moving up in my ratings as he's also got a decent bat.
  11. Whew, was starting to get concerned we would re-sign him.
  12. Agreed. And if we find someone better, see if we can DFA him and pass him through, down to AAA.
  13. Agreed. I believe he was also a little injured In August which may have held him back from stealing more bases. He has average speed and refuses to take walks so I don't think he steals many bases, if he even makes the team.
  14. Martin, Helmin (great in 2022 at AAA, injured in 2023) and Prato (great at AAA and terrible at AA last year) are all utility guys currently at AAA so the Twins certainly have options at the utility position.
  15. Agreed. I will say that the Twins not doing anything yet about CF seems to mean that is what the Twins think will happen. Last year they got Taylor because they had serious doubts.
  16. I like these moves. Very low risk. Just don't forget to look closely at our own pitchers who are about to breakout and have a good year in the pen - thinking of Cano and Coulumbe in 2023.
  17. I understand if someone thinks he would be great, won't get injured again and shouldn't be traded. I also understand if someone thinks there are way too many miles on his legs, will continue to get injured and his defense has gotten bad (can't play 3B or SS at all now) and we should trade him. What I don't understand are the people who say he's great for the Twins but that we won't get anything for him in a trade.
  18. He comes from the robo umps in the minors and actually knows the strike zone better than the umps. Look at the strike calls he disagrees with and 90% of the time they are outside the strike zone box (of course, this is assuming that strike zone box is correct). I also strongly disagree with Ted Williams type veterans getting smaller strike zones than rookies. Just call a strike a strike.
  19. I don't think Jenkins will end up as a CF. By 2027, Buxton is either in CF or not playing. Fun to think about.
  20. There's also the advantage of hindsight. Nobody was saying we should have put Gibson-Long on the 40 man at the time. And the 40 man roster crunch was one of the big reasons we traded Steer and CES. If people didn't like Miranda's defense, CES has always been known for much worse defense. Then you have Buxton at DH and where do you play CES.
  21. Lewis is a SS who plays elsewhere because of Correa.
  22. If you don't like SO's, Austin Martin is great in that area. He's the opposite of Severino in most everything.
  23. Agreed! I've been on the Festa bandwagon for two years and I continue to like him. Also, agree with @roger that Canterino is another possibility. His problem will be similar to Raya's - severe innings limits for 2024 as I see it.
  24. At this age, Castro's speed and defense (and switch hitting) won't decline. He may make a couple more errors just because he made almost none in 2023 but I actually think his overall OF defense will improve. Even if his hitting would decline a little, he is by far the best utility guy.
  25. I don't know that anyone is saying Kiersey will be an All Star player. What many of us see is the base stealing and defense. For the most part, you can't teach this to everyone. Therefore, that alone can make him a valuable (and inexpensive) 4th outfielder or shuttle between AAA and the Twins for injuries, etc. Let's see how the bat develops at AAA this season.
