  1. I agree. The only thing odd about that is that it wasn't done for today's game as Winder had zero chance of pitching today after that many pitches on Friday. With that timing, I wonder if they would really bring Wallner up for 1 or 2 days and then return him to St. Paul, as they couldn't recall him without an injury. I'm guessing Martin goes down on Monday with Paddack taking his place.
  2. Nitpicking but I would have gone with Yanez. Less walks and earned runs. Agree that he needs a promotion. It's not like the Wichita bullpen doesn't need all the help they can get.
  3. Lewis said on yesterday's radio pregame that he comes to the park 6 hours before game time to fully get all his leg stretching done. He said him and the Twins knew one of these compensation injuries could happen. The other option was to sit out the rest of the season as it would take 8 months to build up the entire muscle package.
  4. I think the additions will be Stewart and Topa. They will help in the stretch run. In the playoffs, Paddack will be available in the pen. Those 3 plus Duran, Jax, Alcala make the top 6. Okert has to be good against lh batters. I think they will go with 3 starting pitchers and SWR would work out of the pen as well.
  5. Emma Rodriguez on a rehab assignment today. Yea! One rule Emma - NO sliding head first. Let that thumb fully heal.
  6. For some reason, I'm thinking fans wouldn't be happy if Rocco gives Miranda a day of rest on Saturday......... Back to Friday's game - did Austin Martin getting a hit when he pinch hit for Miranda help or hurt Rocco's decision not to bat Miranda? He got a hit so Miranda couldn't really have done any better (didn't need a homer there). But if he doesn't get a hit, the game ends at 13-5 with Farmer getting out. But what if Margot had got on base and Martin hit again. That's the spot we would have really wanted Mirandas power to come to the plate, down by one run. For a poorly played game on the pitching and managerial side especially, so many fascinating things.
  7. Royce Lewis told much more about his injury on the Twins radio pregame show with Mark Janowski (sp.?). He said the doctors said he wouldn't repeat the previous injury. He was ready to play. BUT his overall muscles would have taken another 8 months to be safe from a "compensation" type injury. Apparently, one of those compensation type injuries that can happen is the abducter. That was a risk he and the Twins were willing to take in order to play this year. Janowski ended the segment saying that Lewis could be back in August - his opinion, Lewis' or the Twins, I don't know.
  8. Noticed we don't even put Marco Raya in the prospect summary anymore. As for Raya, I checked in online in the 4th inning. He had runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs in the 3rd. At that point, he had walked none and given up only 3 hits while striking out 6. He struck out the batter but Cossetti apparently couldn't stop the ball and the batter reached on a wild pitch, scoring a run. From that point on, every strike he pitched was hit. He walked the next batter on 4 pitches. The next batter swung on a 2-0 count and flied out. The next inning was a homer on the first pitch, a double on the first pitch and a 4 pitch walk. He went over 70 pitches. Yea! But those last 15 pitches were nothing like the first 55. Hopefully, he just needs more stamina because he normally doesn't throw this many pitches.
  9. I really don't think we're going to trade for Winker when we have Wallner and Keirsey hitting well in AAA and Julien working his way back (Castro would move to the OF). All can bat LH with Castro a switch hitter, of course.
  10. Argh! Olivares makes the pitcher of the month list and minutes later is on the IL.
  11. Festa down to the Saints. Winder up (probably only for a few days until we need a starter in the Paddack/Festa spot, hopefully Paddack).
  12. Rare for us, but I disagree on this. In 2022, Shuffield got everyone excited because he had an OPS of .856 in St. Paul. He was healthy to start 2023 (correct me if I missed some injury) and started out the year in Fort Myers. Fairly or unfairly, these players get labeled as nothing more than minor leaguers IMO.
  13. I actually think this is great minor league news for Eeles that they think this highly of him. But, look at the names Seth listed. This is terrible news for Eeles being an MLB prospect. The Twins never jump guys up two levels for players they view as true prospects (possible exception for end of year playoffs but that is almost always a one level bump).
  14. Saints strike out 12 times but Wallner had none of them. He went 2 for 4.
  15. You read it correctly. Chris Williams came in to pitch and Varland moved to LF to finish the 2nd inning. Then, Varland pitched the 3rd. He had over 30 pitches in the 1st and threw a lot in the 2nd. I know the amount of pitches thrown in an inning is something the Twins think can lead to injury. Therefore, they wanted Varland to pitch more but not keep going in the 2nd. Has to be a little embarrassing to do but Varland just has to pitch better.
  16. No. And the Twins will never do it because of the salary. Now, if the Tigers release him, I can certainly see the Twins taking a shot at Maeda for the minimum salary.
  17. True, that could happen. But if the transaction is happening for tomorrow, I'm thinking Winder or Boushley come up for Festa and the Twins wait until Monday to add Paddack, sending Winder or Boushley back down to the Saints. Guess it could be Dobnak or Jackson as well (would need a 40 man roster spot though) and then they DFA them since nobody wants to claim them and pay their salary. Edit: Indeed you are correct on Festa. The St. Paul transactions show him optioned to the Saints.
  18. On the post-game radio show, it was mentioned that a transaction is probably coming. Was that simply the Diego Castillo signing (Jordan Balovozic signing with Korea) transacations in St. Paul or something with the Twins? They never said. Edit: Matt Bowman signed again as well and on the Saints.
  19. And the transactions on the St. Paul web site show the pitcher, Diego Castillo, as having resigned with the Twins and back in St. Paul (as well as Peyton Eeles coming up to the Saints - thought he might be one of those guys who shuffles throughout the minors but didn't think it would start THIS year). Guess Castillo replaces Balazovic.
  20. Don't see a trade or free agent signing with the projected payroll for next year. That 5th starter has to come from this group - Festa, Varland, Paddack, Matthews, Morris, Lewis, Raya. That's a lot of possibilities which is another reason they won't bring any starting pitcher in from the outside.
  21. And Andrew Morris is acting like Zebby's twin right now. Cory Lewis should return to what he was in 2023 when he is fully ramped up from injury. And Raya has the best stuff of any of them. I expect all four of them to be starting for the Saints in 2025. That will be an exciting group to watch.
  22. McCusker is one big dude! Maybe the 2nd baseman he is standing by in the video is short as well but he looks really small next to McCusker.
  23. If Lewis goes on the IL, and the Twins don't want to call up Brooks Lee yet, Severino would certainly be a "call him up when he's hot" choice. Certainly nice to have a bunch of AAA guys who would be in MLB for another team - Severino, Lee, Wallner, Julien and Keirsey.
