  1. Just looking at the hitting side, if you take his pinch hitting #'s out, he is the hitter we wanted in the trade (but not the fielder).
  2. The looking at strike three with two strikes almost seems like a Lester situation (pitcher who can't make a throw to first base), complete mental block at this point.
  3. I see Dobnak as now the pitcher that could called upon for a spot start. Then he would be DFA'd, clear waivers (nobody is taking on his contract at this point), and be back in St. Paul.
  4. Lots of great pitching in the top 3 levels for the Twins last night - Plutko, Raya, Morris, Bowen, Paredes, just to name the multiple inning guys. I agree with @Ghost of Kirby Puckett, I expect more greatness tonight with Matthews, Lewis, Prielipp and Soto. I'm betting Prielipp goes only 2 innings.
  5. Severino, already on the 40 man roster, not getting a call up over Diego Castillo (who pinch hit, played in the DH and 3B spots) really casts doubt on what it would take for the Twins to call on him.
  6. Draft signings - with Hill and Carpenter that much over slot, Culpepper has to be way under slot for the math to work out. Edit: Thanks for the correction everyone as I should have actually done the math. All the small number savings do cover these two overslots.
  7. Certainly some good news - Varland pitches great and Lewis and Topa both on rehab assignments. Any word on Emma Rodriguez? He was on a rehab assignment and now there's no information about him.
  8. Do you think he will get added to the 40 man this winter? I don't and we'll end up praying someone doesn't take him in the Rule 5 draft.
  9. Very nice to see Prielipp make it through rehab. Please, can he just stay injury free. MacLeod earned his promotion as well. Great news!
  10. Now that Diego Castillo has stayed up with the Twins for several days, I really question why Severino wasn't the player called up. He's been hot and has the better bat.
  11. Listened to some of the Saints game. The catcher was challenging ball calls by the ump a number of times and getting them reversed to strikes for Zebby.
  12. He will start right up into AAA as all highly regarded pitcher do. It's easy to control their innings, workouts, etc. this way. AA is the level you really learn how a player does against higher quality competition. Raya is still young though. It could simply be that his youth needs a year there to catch up to the competition. By the way, the pitch count had nothing to do with his struggles in the game. They started in the first couple innings.
  13. How many times do we field a bunt that is going foul when we have no chance to get an out?
  14. Listened to the Wichita game while working on the deck (because Raya was pitching). He was worse than the #'s show. Frequently went 3 balls and no strikes on batters. Quite unimpressed. Another thing I didn't realize, the announcers said with Emma Rodriguez injured the entire Wichita roster (batters) was right-handed until Deardon was called up.
  15. Speaking of health, is Jenkins healthy? Are the Twins playing it ultra-conservative in having him DH so much or is there still lingering problems with the injury? If there are lingering problems, his #'s should get better when completely healthy.
  16. Gonzalez is the only one I disagree with. His bat has to be great, even at this young age, as his defense and other tools aren't his calling card. At this point, I'm not seeing a great bat either.
  17. Margot was supposed to be the backup CF. His defense out there loses games. Farmer was supposed to be the backup SS. Like Margot, he is about 4th in line if everyone is healthy. The real question is, if we pooled all this money and chose the right guy, would we be better off with that one guy plus our rookies - Martin, Lee, Keirsey? I will say that depth would have then been an issue.
  18. We signed Kendle already - slot money of $411K. Signed for $150K.
  19. Anyone else surprised that Castro played SS and Lee was at 2B? Lee played so much SS in the minors and Castro played an excellent 2B. But it worked great last weekend so I can't complain.
  20. This draft tells me two things: 1. The Twins love the current crop of pitchers in the minors (Festa, Matthews, Raya, Morris, MacLeod, Nowlin, Lewis, Soto to name a few). 2. We aren't trading any of this pitching away in deadline or off-season trades. I get the feeling that Fort Myers and Cedar Rapids will give up a few more runs next season.
  21. Keirsey had his first bad week, going 1 for 18 without a walk. Rubel Cespedes hot start has faded (3 for 21 and 8 for his last 40). Jose Salas was only 2 for 21 again and Gus Gonzalez had a rough week in Wichita. Sabato only played in 1 game and Doncon played in two. Did I miss some injuries?
  22. Small correction - Camargo did catch in the 9th inning on Sunday.
  23. In 2024, nearly 100% of the drafted players in the first 5 rounds (or more) already have an agreement with the team to sign at a certain $ amount (or range) or they don't draft them. Much better than the old days where teams would lose a high pick because they wouldn't sign.
  24. There are times we miss a legitimate backup CF on defense. Today was one where we would rather have had Margot in LF.
