  1. At this point, I think the Twins will really take their time with Lee. Multiple reasons - don't want the injury to be chronic or reoccur, he needs to get into shape, he needs to succeed at AAA, and the Twins may not want him to play too many games with them this year and lose his rookie status (getting another #1 draft pick if Lee is rookie of the year in 2025 is gold to most teams). Lee will be so close to the rookie cut off by the time he is ready to play for the Twins, it may now be worth manipulating that time (though that will never be mentioned as the reason).
  2. It seems that the Twins can only win for an extended period when Royce Lewis is playing. Amazing how that young guy makes such a difference.
  3. The Shuffield shuffle - Dalton Shuffield started in St. Paul, went to Wichita, to the Development List, back to St. Paul, returns to Wichita, again on the Development List, a third trip to St. Paul and finally to Cedar Rapids. He is "that" guy this year. Great game last night with the Kernels, really helping them win.
  4. Walker Jenkins Any news on when he will return?Emmanuel Rodriguez He is Julien with more power and better defense.Brooks Lee Is his back a chronic injury?Simeon Woods Richardson A giant leap up in rankings. Hope his success continues.David Festa One of my favoritesZebby Matthews He looks so much like a future Joe RyanDanny De Andrade Shortstop is a premium position that only a very few can play well enough defensively to make it there in MLB. De Andrade is one of those.Austin Martin Love his effort. Needs to play better defensively.Charlee Soto May that arm stay healthyMarco Raya At this point, I see him as a relief pitcher, though a good oneBrandon Winokur Nice start in A ball for someone so youngLuke Keaschall Really want to see him in AA to compare him to SchobelDaShawn Keirsey Jr Will he ever get a chance in MLB? He can't do much more in AAA.Cory Lewis Hope the injury isn't long termJair Camargo Vazquez and Jeffers just never get hurtNoah Cardenas Good all around gameJaylen Nowlin Has some great outings (and the same amount of stinkers). Consistency needed.Tanner Schobel Rough year so far.Kala'i Rosario Average in AA so far this year.CJ Culpepper Picked him over Morris, Ohl and Bowen at this minute Can no longer rank Canterino and Prielipp as they are always injured. Gabby Gonzalez is a bat only hitter who isn't dominating A+. Just don't see him making it all the way to the Twins. Still love Helman and Prato but their season in a hitters league doesn't back that up so far.
  5. Castro is overworked and has been forced to play too much in the most important and his worst positions of CF and SS. Most thought Margot would be the backup CF and Farmer would be the backup SS. This has made Castro look bad as he is stretched in those positions (though he is capable). Worse, Margot is terrible even playing mostly the corner OF spots.
  6. He has tools but it appears the bat is never going to get there. In 6 seasons, he never hit better than .238. And this year, his third at high A ball, he is hitting .132 with an OPS of .459. That's my guess.
  7. Thank God for the minors reports the way the Twins are playing! And Jenkins and Lee returning as well as promotions - bonus!!
  8. If both those guys are hitting, look out FCL opponents!
  9. Wichita's relief pitchers seemed like they were doing well lately. Up to their old tricks tonight. Brian Dinkleman seems to always get the best out of his players in Cedar Rapids. New guys every year and they both win and advance their skills. Does he have a chance to move up in the organization?
  10. Helman is really hitting lately, maybe the Twins minor league hitter of the week. Needs to sustain this to have a chance to get called up. Margot would probably have to be bad enough to be DFA'd for Helman to get a chance. Because Brooks Lee is injured, Helman is forced to play a lot more SS right now. Check the pitch count in the box score. Raya is up to 60 pitches.
  11. He's not ready yet. Had a good, but short streak in early May. Recently, he has returned to striking out way too much. And I'm a Wallner fan.
  12. Love these stories. Makes me think of Crash Davis in Bull Durham. Maybe Tony Kemp has a future in coaching.
  13. Wow, John Klein signed as a free agent and is from Brooklyn Park, MN. Decent #'s at Fort Myers and Cedar Rapids last year. Anyone know more about him? Does he actually have a chance to make it to MLB?
  14. Just on the communication issues, I don't get it with Martin because he played a lot of SS. I was always taught at SS that you go for the pop up until the OF calls you off (if you collided, the OF was always to blame). Whenever we got an inexperienced OF, I would remind him of that because I didn't want to get creamed by him. When I rarely played OF, I would always communicate because I knew from playing SS that it was a key job of mine.
  15. Not sure what you don't like about a 2.71 ERA and 1.14 whip in Cedar Rapids. And that's not counting his playoff performance that year (as they don't put the playoff #'s in the combined stats) - 6 innings, 2 hits, 0 walks, 10 K's. Always been a Festa fan.
  16. Must give Willi Castro a day off on Thursday. Has to get his head straight.
  17. Zebby Matthews is incredible. Morris at Cedar Rapids should probably be moved up to join Zebby. Have to find some guys to backfill with the Kernels. I like Velez as a relief pitcher, at least looking at his stats. Bad news on De Andrade and Gonzalez. Keirsey just keeps looking like the one hitter at St. Paul who is ready for MLB, and his defense has always been great.
  18. Interesting exercise. You must downgrade Wallner's arm on accuracy? The one area I disagree on is judgment. I think Larnach and Kirilloff use good judgment (throw to the right bases), just may not physically be able to get to some balls. I thought Larnach's arm was okay last year, throwing out a few runners. I give Castro 1's for routes and judgment. Throwing the ball in the stands like he did is bad and not knowing how many outs there are is a lot worse, after I haven't liked how he throws to the wrong base at times (probably have his range higher as I think he covers ground when he runs the right route). Nitpicking as I agree with much of your chart. Thanks for posting.
  19. Festa was great in his first full season, 2022 - 2.43 ERA and 1.09 whip (would have been my choice for Twins minor league pitcher of the year). AA showed that he had some work to do in 2023 but there's a reason he was the Twin selected for the minor league all-star game. Great K% this year, 3.00 ERA. Needs to work on all his pitches, reduce that whip and he will be ready to get a few spot starts for the Twins this year. 2025 is when he will be fully ready for MLB. If some people don't like him, they aren't going to like any of our starting pitching prospects (Raya is more talented but doesn't go very deep into games).
  20. Someone said yesterday that the Twins are in the bottom third of innings used for bullpens. I'm not finding the exact innings pitched right now. I think my first post had total innings by all pitchers so I deleted it.
  21. I'm a fan of rotating catchers to keep both healthy. But to limit Jeffers from DH'ing because of workload management? Really??? DH'ing for 4-5 at bats is really taking a tole on him? Have to disagree with that.
  22. Exactly my reaction. Again, we waste all that time at SS when everyone knew he wasn't going to play there in the future. He gets so little time in the OF that it's almost lucky that he didn't get injured like Royce Lewis. The Twins need to change their philosophy in the minors so athletes like Martin are ready to play well in the majors (it was obvious, that there wasn't an infield opening for him with the Twins the past two years). Love his hustle but don't like his decisions on throws from the outfield. He really has narrowed his possible roles in MLB to LF and 2B and Utility (not super Utility like Castro). Castro isn't great in CF but he is appropriately ahead of Martin there (what does it say about Margot that Martin is ahead of him in CF!). I believe the 2nd best defensive CF in the Twins organization is Keirsey with the Saints. I do think I heard on the Twins radio broadcast that Martin's barrel % is the best on the Twins team (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
  23. He certainly is the model of what many people want - draft and develop our pitchers. Hope Matthews, Lewis, Culpepper and others can do the same.
  24. Nice to see Pierson Ohl have a great game. Charlie Soto is learning the hard way right now.
