  1. Sure are a lot of articles with the word "hate" in the title lately. I'm sure the Twins don't hate Alcala.
  2. The Twins must really like De Andrade since they traded Noah Miller. We got Rayne Doncon in that trade but he will be a 2B or 3B as he moves up. De Andrade is comparable to Miller but 1.5 years younger. They are both playing high A. Their stats: Miller - 131 AB, .267 avg., 5 HR, 20 rbi's, .797 ops, 2 errors. It surprises me that the Dodgers are playing him at 2B one third of the time (SS the remainder). De Andrade - 97 AB, .258 avg., 2 HR, 19 rbi's, .732 ops, 6 errors. SS for 21 games, 2B for 4 games. The errors are concerning for De Andrade. Miller is the best defensive SS in the minors and his hitting #'s are better this year than in prior years (repeating high A).
  3. It makes the ones who succeed every year, like Duran, that much more valuable.
  4. Yea, probably should have put him in my rankings. What's your order for Twins minor league catchers in likelihood of making MLB? I have Camargo (cup of coffee already), Cardenas, Olivar and Cossetti (little older I think). I've soured on Winkel as his hitting #'s aren't good in what's known as a hitting league.
  5. We need more good LH pitchers in the organization. Could Cesar Lares be one? Maybe..............
  6. Much of the time, Cleveland has been trading for their pitching, not drafting and developing everyone.
  7. Alcala, Blewett, Castillo, Topa (how injured is he), Canterino (will he ever be healthy), Balazovic (pitching better of late), and maybe Winder (not pitching great now) are the possibilities I see for the bullpen. Varland at the end of the year but we need him ready to start along with Festa (another bullpen candidate at the end of the year) and Boushley. (spot starts). Headrick is on the 60 day IL. We won't see him with the Twins again this year IMO.
  8. If the Twins have a double-header, I'm betting Festa gets a free taste of MLB. He's hitting 10 SO's in multiple games now and tossed 6 shutout innings today. Oops, didn't realize Gabby Gonzalez was quite that young. I shouldn't have been so hard on him in my rankings. Low A ball can be interesting. Kudos to the Fort Myers pitchers for not walking anyone while they received 11 walks.
  9. Kenta Maeda on the 15 day IL (and has a 6.75 ERA). I wanted the Twins to sign him at the right price. Maybe a good move not to sign him. Akil Baddoo called up in his place.
  10. Would you say the strike zone box is accurate on the inside and outside pitches? It's the top and bottom that need adjusting to the hitter? I think many of us on TD are okay when a call goes the wrong way if it's a borderline call. These MLB umps are professionals and miss some that are two ball widths off the plate. As a one time ump, I wanted to get the call right and would have gladly welcomed technology to fix my mistakes. I umpired one year (9 and 10 year olds) and coached kids 5-15 year-olds for many years. At the level I umpired, the coaches were most of the problem. They usually teamed the adults with a teenager. Most of the coaches knew me from me coaching and maybe that skewed things. I would make a bad call and hear nothing. My teenage partner would make the right call and they would get on him, probably figuring they could get calls to go their way later. I would immediately stop and warn the coach. That stopped it right there. I loved coaching 9-12 year-olds, especially 11 and 12. 13-15 year-olds, no thanks, especially those on the travel team.
  11. The Twins radio announcers said on Thursday that the quality gap between AAA and MLB has never been larger. They said this was coming from them talking to players and personnel from a number of teams. I'm wondering if anyone might have a reason for that.
  12. They aren't doing the challenge system and robo umps in the minors for nothing. It's only a matter of time before it comes to MLB and I'm all for it, to make everything consistent and fair (no more favoring the veterans and discriminating against the newcomers). You can see that many rookies know what the real strike zone is and then it's like they are playing a different game when they get to MLB umping.
  13. If we get really lucky, Canterino and Prielipp also pitch this year. Anyone hear anything about either one? They seem to be off everyone's radar, which is a bad sign.
  14. The Twins really only have two players in the minor league system who I see as a future MLB SS and that is De Andrade and Brooks Lee. That said, his bat isn't that much further ahead of where Noah Miller was last year at this time. De Andrade needs time at high A for his bat to develop.
  15. Zebby Matthews was even better than his final stats. Through 6 innings, he threw 67 pitches and had 8 K's with, of course, no walks and one hit. Maybe got a little tired but he had the last batter but Schobel threw wildly to first base with two outs and two runs scored on the play.
  16. If Lewis or Buxton came back today, Martin would go back to the Saints. What if everyone stays healthy (a big IF) and those two are back? Then, as of now, it would be either releasing Margot or sending Miranda to the Saints. Kirilloff could down as well but I'm just thinking he is going to have a hot streak coming up.
  17. After a horrid start, the hitters are doing great and the Mariners staff isn't the White Sox or Angels. Probably time to give the hitting coaches some credit for this turnaround.
  18. People have different definitions of a pitching pipeline. Some only count players drafted by the Twins who moved up through the system. Others will include trades (Luis Arraez came up through the system and was traded for Pablo Lopez and then Julien took over at 2B). Some don't count the bullpen and others do.
  19. Kiersey for Margot isn't going to happen. If Kiersey batted RH, it would have a chance. The Twins aren't going to overbalance themselves with LH bats, especially the way we platoon.
  20. Multiple guys had great hitting days and easily would be the hitter of the day but not last night. McCusker goes 5 for 5 with 3 homers. Wow! IIRC, he was undrafted and the Twins picked him up as a free agent.
  21. Makes a person dream of............ Matt Bowman.
  22. Nice to see Michael Helman have a great week. It's possible he can be a cheaper version of Willi Castro. But first he needs to stay healthy and dominate AAA. Then, he needs a chance to show he play MLB and isn't just a AAAA player. Great to see Zebby Matthews moved up. Wichita needs more good pitchers and this is one.
