Grading the 2024 Minnesota Twins: Pitchers
FlyingFinn replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Reminder in regards to the starters - all of them probably had their ERA inflated because the bullpen allowed one of the highest %'s of runners on base to score in MLB history. And that doesn't get reflected on the relievers ERA. Plus, as some mentioned, the bad defense after Buxton and Correa went down really affected our young pitchers as that is when most of them were called up to stay.- 28 replies

What's your basis for firing one or all of our minor league managers? Brian Dinkleman had his team in the playoffs for the last ten years. He started with Zebby Matthews and Andrew Morris this year and they ended up with super seasons, one all the way from A ball to the Twins and the other to AAA. I wouldn't mind seeing him promoted as he and his staff really seem to teach and advance guys up to the next level. Overall, I think the minor league coaches did great on the pitching side this year. Our top hitters all had significant time on the IL. When healthy, they also performed well. Even though they and we all love winning, player development is more important in the minors.

Twins Minor League Starting Pitcher of the Year - 2024
FlyingFinn replied to Eric Blonigen's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
At least one will start the year with the Twins and I would guess it's Festa. I think the Twins will add Raya and MacLeod to your list of starters with the Saints. That will be a great crop of pitchers!- 12 replies

Kiersey's on the 40 man roster so isn't Rule 5 eligible. Holland (he was on the bench half the time when healthy), Cespedes and Rosario won't be selected by any team. I'm doubting Olivar will be selected and he won't be protected. I'm predicting two are protected and many will disagree with one of them - Raya and Christian MacLeod. LH starters are hard to find and MacLeod is very similar to where Headrick was when he was added to the 40 man roster.

Twins 26- & 40-man Roster Moves - 2024
FlyingFinn replied to Danchat's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Helman recalled. I'm guessing Correa back to the IL as he was probably playing on one healthy foot (and doing quite well). -
Bohorquez and Rodriguez are the ones that excite me. Great K/BB ratios.

Only Rosario is. De Andrade is December 2025 Rule 5 eligible.

Rosario, De Andrade, and Ross are the three that excite me. I especially want to see De Andrade hit, hopefully better than Noah Miller.

I'm not normally anti-Rocco, but if his calm and trust in players still results in our hitters getting tight in the stretch run, that isn't good. If the Twins don't make the playoffs, I will flip and say Rocco has to go just to make a change. Otherwise, it seems we could see this again next year.

No, 28 is just not young in baseball terms. In fact, he is "so old" that he may be going back and forth between the Saints and the Twins, that they may DFA him and then re-add him when the Twins need him again (may be wrong on this but Keirsey needs to prove he can hit MLB pitching when he gets the small chance). Will he survive the winter on the 40 man roster. I say yes, as the Twins don't have many that have to be added.

"impressive with the time missed and for being a Day 13 draft pick" - Day 13!! That is something. Some typos are just funny :)

Wow, what a great month of September to end the season for Raya. Guess that's why the experts have him rated so highly.

I don't ever see a rule requiring 6 innings from a starter. That would create more injuries. Everyone is so pitch count conscious now. Can you imagine suddenly forcing a starter to throw 250 pitches when he's having a bad day?

Interesting transactions today - both Raya and Lewis moved to AAA for at least one shot there this year. I do predict Lewis will be in AAA at the start of next year. If Raya is up as well, think of the rotation - Matthews, Lewis, Raya, Morris, Varland, and probably a veteran (I've got Festa and SWR in the majors).

He's left-handed and we have no confidence in Funderburk (hasn't been very good in St. Paul coming back from injury) and Okert right now, as well as Dobnak. He's an innings eater if we get way behind. Look out bullpen tonight. If one of the bottom guys pitches a lot in a blowout game, they are probably the one going down to St. Paul.

Oh, I agree. I just think he's ahead of Culpepper and will start at AAA. People expect his rebound after last year. Culpepper is flying under the radar right now.

Culpepper had a couple great games to the end on injury-plagued season. He's my prediction for big mover next year, helping out the Twins by September.

The umps are supposed to be impartial. I'm not sure I would have reported it during the game (after the game, yes I would reported it in private conversation). But the umps and catchers usually have a close relationship. If I was umping, I would certainly have asked the catcher what in the world he was doing.

"If the Twins go 1-2, the teams would finish tied, and the tiebreaker would move to intradivisional records, where the Twins hold a slim advantage (28-20 in the division, compared to Boston’s 20-21 with 11 divisional games left). " Slim?? That is a massive edge. If the Twins go 2-2 against Cleveland, Boston needs to go 10-1 to tie. If the Twins go 0-4 against Cleveland and 1-2 against Boston, there probably won't be a tie-breaker.

Hard to believe anyone would want Kepler over Wallner next year. Great job by Wallner and the coaches in fixing the hole in his swing this spring.

That is the really bad news for Eeles and McCusker. It's hard to give guys a shot in the majors when they usually struggle early AND aren't playing good defense.

Cory Lewis with a great ERA and a bad win/loss record. Tells you a lot about the Wichita hitters (and sometimes the bullpen) after Rodriguez was injured.
