The minor league legend of Mickey continues! I can see why teams keep thinking, some of that has to transfer to the majors (but it never does).

Varland's hustle to make that play at first base was my play of the game. Clearly a case where playing multiple sports as a youth helps a player come out of a play like that with an out instead of an injury IMO.

Mickey Gasper - he just belongs in the AAA Hall of Fame. His stats are great at that level.

Healthy as they actually played in a game. Oof, Lewis looked anything but healthy, like he was going to fall apart with the next swing. Everyone else was great tonight though. Keep up the win streak.

The legend of Dalton Shuffield retires. He must have gotten tired of being that guy that would literally move to every minor league team we had, sometimes going from AAA to A ball.

Not anymore for Amick. He is on the 7 day IL with the dreaded oblique strain, meaning no way it only takes 7 days.

Week in Review: Flashbacks to Failure
FlyingFinn replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
With our starting pitching, you certainly can see the chance to go on longer winning streaks. Combine that with Buxton being healthy and running so well, it's unbelievable that we haven't won more. Lewis and Castro should help but don't bring them back too soon if they aren't healthy and ready.- 26 replies

Why is Paddack's fastball 95 in the 1st inning and 91 at the end of his outing? That seems like a bigger drop than most pitchers. 91 worked fine today but usually doesn't.

We could have Cy Young himself at the beginning of his career and you would be grumping about how bad he is. Give the 29 other teams the option of Festa and Matthews vs. their top two starting pitchers in AAA, and it may very well be 25-29 teams that would select Festa and Matthews.

I am ready to get rid of Rocco, though about 4-5 hitters on the roster don't belong there. Fundamentals and lack of hustle is my problem with Rocco. At least Gasper hustled and hey he forced an error. Go outside the box with a new manager, Brian Dinkleman from the minors. His teams have always played well and he knows many of these players with the Twins.

Larnach could have caught that ball instead of letting it hit halfway up the wall. The home plate ump was terrible that inning as well. But the real problem is the hitting, batting 3 guys who seem like automatic outs, Gasper, Clemens and Kiersey. Kiersey needs to become a great bunter. Do that and combine it with his good defense and baserunning and he could last as a 4th/5th outfielder.

Exactly. The change up wasn't close to being a strike so he didn't need to look for that. Great pitching and pitch selection the last two games except for the inexplicable need to throw almost nothing but fastballs to Naylor until he gets the timing down and wins the game for them.

Didn't know Olivares was throwing 98 but did see his good pitching stats this year. I would have put him in my top 20 though I seem to have way more pitchers ranked highly than hitters.

Does Winkel have a chance of being a backup MLB catcher? He had a nice week with a couple homers and his stats seem at least as good as Camargo. I believe he's okay on defense as well but someone can correct that if I'm wrong. Cardenas with his first good week of the year at Wichita. Sabato (after a good first few games) and Cossetti (struggled at the plate for about a year now), not a good week. Hess, De Andrade, Culpepper with great weeks at the plate while Urbina is like Sabato, just has never lived up to the hype, with one more tough week. Thomason with 5 homers in 2 weeks. Impressive. 11 hits on the year and hitting .200, still has things to work on. That league is tough for homers though.

Twins 11, Guardians 1: Opening Salvo
FlyingFinn replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
With the bullpen so rested, the Twins recipe will be 5 solid innings from Paddack, a quick hook, and then our four best relievers for the win. -
Wow, Prielipp and Hill's #'s in the box score sure are impressive. Stay healthy and keep this up.

I thought Alcala had reached 5 years of service earlier this year. Thus, he could elect free agency (and probably would), and another team like the White Sox surely would sign him to an MLB contract. Did I hear wrong on that?

Twins Acquire Kody Clemens from Phillies
FlyingFinn replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The back end of the 40 man roster isn't for your 38th, 39th and 40th best guys. It's for guys who are lower, maybe 45th or so. These guys get DFA'd frequently so you can bring up other guys in that 45th or so range. Scott Blewett is a prime example. He has pitched great for two teams and been DFA'd both times (actually passed through waivers for the Twins once this year). But now he's pitching good enough that he isn't passing through waivers. Bride and Clemens will both be DFA'd by the Twins when Lewis, Castro and Keaschall get healthy (or even Martin). McCaughan is pitching so well that if the Twins call him up again and try to DFA him, he may go the way of Blewett. As for depth, we had Lee, Julien, Keaschall, Martin, Gasper at 2B. Lee has to play 3B now and Keaschall and Martin are injured. The 40 man can only hold so much depth at each position and it's not often that 3 injuries affect one position all at once. Luckily this didn't happen at SS where don't have the kind of depth we had at 2B.- 74 replies
