  1. I still think Castro was signed to be minor league depth, but maybe with Taylor it was the plan all along to play center field. The offense has been a plus.
  2. ... speaking of defensive inadequacies... Walner seems to have a leg up with that cannon of an arm...
  3. I grew up in Buffalo. Half the kids were Yankees fans, the other half just picked the winning teams. My grandmother was in Minnesota and sent me a pennant, tee shirt, and poster. I looked in the newspaper and saw names like Killebrew, Carew, Olivia... And they happened to be in the playoffs against the O's. Nobody else liked the Twins. They've been mine every since. Through the crappy Cal Griffen years. I felt so vindicated when they won it all in 87.
  4. Chi chi Gonzales sighting tonight in Jacksonville. Gave up 9 runs in 2/3 of an inning

  5. Serious question. Would Rocco sit this guy vs rhp?
  6. I'm gonna be the old curmudgeon who says "stop babying these guys. Walter Johnson threw 44 billion innings!" You can limit his innings now and let a lesser pitcher pick them up, or you can let him pitch until he breaks down and then... Let a lesser pitcher pick up... As for his missed time, I'm not sure what his previous injuries were but off the top of my head I don't remember it being a rotator cuff or needing TJ. Having hamstring strains and whatnot is not really a reoccurring fear unless your name is Donaldson... Let him pitch
  7. This Brewers analyst sounds like Cliff Claven
  8. It's frustrating to watch a one run game and not seeing BB or C4 pinch hit in the 8th or 9th inning. If they're not healthy enough to do even that, you need to make a move.
  9. Right now my biggest fear is what we've seen in the past week. Two scary plays that made you grimace and pray he didn't get hurt.
  10. What looked good in the beginning of April does not look so good anymore. I'd hate to be stuck for the next two years. Is there a buyout?
  11. Great article! I really think Jeffers has the ability to improve upon these numbers. Handing him the starting position last year may have been a tad too soon in his development. Next week... How did Garver stack up on these metrics?
  12. I dunno... He didn't injure his knee playing cf last year. He was... Running bases. A couple years back he came back from injury for the last game (in time for playoffs) and proceeded to get beaned in the head. And let's not forget the broken tooth eating a steak. Now get off my lawn...
  13. Hopefully the new trainers can limit all the soft tissue injuries this season. I still worry about Alcala and Maeda, whether they'll be the same pitchers again. One has to also consider Alcala's mental outlook. If he's not confident in the elbow he won't pitch as well. When he's confident you can see it in his face and he is definitely dangerous when he is.
  14. Underrated? Not by true fans. Underpaid? Sadly yes.
  15. I look forward to seeing him pitch here in Jacksonville
  16. I still see his season as three parts. Pre-covid Covid Post-covid The covid part includes the first month or two that he came back. That was his crappy part.
  17. It would be nice to get as excited about Martin as we were when we got him in return for Berrios. Julien needs a position. I think we'll see Lee earlier than September if they don't stay healthier than last season. Let's hope the new trainer is the real upgrade this season.
  18. Honestly? I thought trading Berrios in 2021 was waving the white flag. If you're not going to keep your own home grown talent then you're just in a cycle of constant rebuilding. Might as well deal Maeda first. There's no guarantee he'll ever be 2020 Kenta again. Gray sands Mahle keep until the deadline. Obviously Joe Ryan will only be here until he hits free agency in a few years...
  19. Eternal hope. Did anyone pick Cleveland last year? Maybe the team is suddenly healthy and the starting rotation all pitch to their potential. Ryan learns change up to compliment his fastball and becomes unhittable. Maybe the bullpen won't blow games. Miranda and Polanco turn into defensive wizards and the bats pop. Whatchamacallit holds down short and Lewis comes back a month earlier than expected, as good as new. And maybe Buxton stays healthy.... I'll just leave the rose colored glasses here while I go buy lottery tickets...
  20. I've been saying "Jeffers is gonna be an all star" for a couple years now. So obviously my expertise is limited to how much food I can ingest while WATCHING the games...
  21. Baddoo was a short term hurt. He had a decent rookie campaign (and played very good against the Twins) during a season we used 7 center fielders. No, he wasn't supposed to play in Minnesota that year but he would have been one of those 7 had her not been chosen. His regression last year and Celestino's improved first half made it hurt less. We'll have to see how his career shakes out. For me, too early to tell.
  22. Scenario A is, to me, what's going on here. I think it also signals the end of Gordon as an infielder. Until injuries make that a need.
