    I loved Jeffers as a prospect, but he's on shaky ground for me - he's not hitting all that well outside of a couple games where pulverized the ball, and while he's a good framer, baserunners have been taking advantage of him. Still not sure what to think, but I don't love that Sanchez is the only other option outside of AAAA guys like Godoy.

    It looks like Miranda will be heading down soon with how poorly he's looked at the plate. I would guess Lewis is sticking for now, though.

    Let's not forget he blew that game in the 8th inning by giving up 2 HRs... long-term I think Duran is the guy you want out there in the 9th, but right now I don't want him in there when it's a 1 run game in the 9th.

    Perhaps I'm wrong, but isn't a HBP nullified if you make a full swing and the ball hits your fingers? Also, the ball hit his fingers and then the bat, but it still counted as a groundball... is there no rule about double touching the ball?

    For those who were saying he was ready to be in the Opening Day lineup for the Twins (and yes, I saw several people here saying that), that was never going to happen and he needs more time in the minors to work on his game. It's only his second full season in the minors. Find him a home in the outfield and let him focus on raising that batting average, and see if a power spurt comes along.

    Does Encarnacion-Strand always get 2 hits per day? Seems like every time I check up on him, he does. It would be nice to see that raw power translate to the majors... but for years, our power-first prospects either never make it to the majors or stink when they do. I want to be convinced that Wallner could change this... but I have a hard time seeing it.

    100% agreed, I thought Smeltzer's take was dumb. Shaving off 25 minutes every ballgame would be a game-changer for casual and hardcore fans of baseball. I don't know if it will affect attendance, but they have to try because the [attendance] numbers are going down as baseball has refused to change the rules for a better viewing experience.

    I think it's a bit early to assume that the whole division will be bad based off the first 3 weeks... I'd wait to see what happens when the Sox get healthy.

    Cano should be the big addition in a month or two, Smeltzer is probably on the top of the list for a quick mop-up call-up, and Minaya is probably the next man up if they don't think Cano is ready. Gotta hope Moran gets his season back on track.

    If Cano keeps this up, he should be in the majors maybe within a few months. He’s got the stuff and if his command stays steady, watch out. Just stick Martin in the outfield and be done with it - he’s confirmed the scouting reports, he’s not an infielder.

    Interesting to see Smeltzer pitching well as of late, with Thorpe going in the opposite direction and getting axed. I wouldn't be surprised if Smeltzer gets called up for mop up work in the near future, when we're back to 26 man rosters.

    Absolutely, I rated it an A+ at the time and now it looks like an A+++++ even though Strotman isn't faring so well. You have to remember that the discussion here was that we'd get a bag of balls for Cruz in a trade, and here we are with a stud starting pitcher on the first year of his rookie contract.

    It's way too early to DFA Thielbar, he's had two bad outings and for a reliever it happens. He's also by far the best lefty they have in the pen, so they don't really have a choice but to ride it out with him. Coulombe is the de facto best lefty in the pen if you DFA Thielbar, and that's not a scenario any Twins fan should want.

    Well, the starting pitching looks good, better than I expected a couple months ago. I am guessing as the weather improves, the hitting will improve and the pitching will regress... but there are several hitters I have concerns with, and the bullpen looks very questionable. The defense has also been brutal at times. I was fine with giving Stashak another chance this year, but if continues to look like this, it's DFA time. Perhaps they will give Yennier Cano a shot in the pen - I'd give him another month or two at AAA (his command in 2021 was shaky).

    Wow, what a night for the bats. Great to see Palacios have a good game, and I've got to wonder if he'll be up at some point to be the Twins' backup SS. Right now Polanco is in that role if Correa is hurt, and I think most of us want him to stay at 2B. Of course, Lewis could make that moot if he continues to hit like he does, but unlike Palacios, he would need to play every day in the majors if called up. Got to wonder if Vallimont is headed down the Dakota Chalmers route - getting DFA'd after a poor start to the year seems like an inevitability if he doesn't improve. We need more 40 man spots, and he won't be helping the MLB squad for some time. Festa is officially on my watch list.

    I think he'd do the least damage at 1B. He's going to be a pretty bad LF.

    Contreras is at best a bench player so I wouldn't consider him to be much of a prospect either, but what really hurts him is that he's a LH hitter just like Kepler, Kirilloff, and Larnach. I would consider Yennier Cano, who is also 27, to be a prospect - he started very late in the MILB system and I think he still has very high upside as a reliever.

    Wow, what a day for AAA! Gotta wonder if Contreras is going to get a shot in the majors at some point, problem is he's yet another lefty OF and we already have too many of those. I thought they'd have Vallimont in the bullpen, as I don't think he has what it takes as a starter. A few more bad starts and maybe they can sneak him off the 40 man roster.

    3. He’d be getting slammed for using guys that don’t have experience closing - there’s only so much he can do with the pen he has been given. Not to mention that Duffey’s save/bust rate is not as bad as it looks because it includes blown holds…

    They have a guy who can throw 100, but doesn't the "closer's mentality" rule out Duran? Wouldn't it be unwise to give a guy who's never been a reliever and never throw at the major league level save situations so early on? Don't get me wrong, I think Alcala should be getting save chances, but throwing a rookie to the sharks seems like a bad idea. Would a manager with a "winning feel" have done considerably better in 2021 and these 2 games in 2022? I dunno, I think a manager can only do so much with the roster given, especially with the bullpen losing Rogers. I'm not a big fan of Baldelli, but it's not like they're going to find a different manager who can immediately win more games because of his "feel".

    Winder and Duran have been getting the headlines lately, but I have been high on Sands for some time now.

    I am torn on this trade - I really like acquiring Paddack with the upside he has, but I am somewhat worried about his health. Apparently that was a deciding factor for the Mets not acquiring him. Still, 3 cheap years of Paddack is a good get for Rogers and Rooker, especially since our FO doesn't believe in making big investments in starting pitching on the FA market. I like the Pagan inclusion - his numbers are kinda ugly the past two years, but he was having a good 2021 until he had a bad September. I could see him starting out as the setup reliever. I don't like the attempts being made to undermine Rogers' value - there's a reason why the Padres wanted him so much. He's a top tier reliever that I don't see regressing anytime soon, and I can see them getting an extension done with him in the next few months. I don't like how Falvine has let Pressly, Rogers, and May go and hasn't replaced them despite the idea that we are going to be a playoff contender this year. It'd be cool if Alcala and Duran could immediately step in, but I think that's wishful thinking and Rocco has always relied on veteran relievers to hold down the high leverage innings. I just don't like relying on Smith/Cotton/Coulombe to hold down important innings while we're also crossing our fingers hoping Duffey can work as a closer and Thielbar keeps crushing it. Rooker going is absolutely fine, we didn't need him with all the 1B/DH bats we have and he does not belong in the OF. Keeping Larnach is a plus for me. As for the rotation, I don't move Ober out. Archer has barely pitched in Spring Training and probably won't last long in the regular season and Bundy probably is going to be a 5+ ERA starter. They could roll with a 6 man rotation, but it's going to last 2 weeks at most with how frequent injuries are with MLB pitchers. Well, I certainly don't fear a repeat of 2021 with all of the zany moves the FO has made. We're not as reliant on the prospects as we were a month or two ago, but we still need the likes of Miranda/Winder/Larnach to make strides and cement themselves as major leaguers. I am feeling something around a .500 season with the potential for more if the young'uns step up and contribute more than we anticipate.

    Urshela did follow up his the 2019 season with an even better one in 2020 according to OPS+ - he improved from 133 to 137 even though the actual numbers look a little worse, but that was because of how the rest of the league regressed after the 2019 juiced ball.

    I do hope Alcala gets some save opportunities, but Baldelli does not have a history of giving the young relievers chances at saves... heck, it took until the final game of the year for Alcala to get his first and only shot. Duran will have to pitch really well to even warrant consideration.
