  1. I was referring to how the Astros tweaked Pressly's pitch choice and quickly turned him from a good reliever to a great one. Yeah, and that could also happen with Cano, but my point was that if Rooker did sustain his elite hitting, I wouldn't necessarily be mad at the Twins because the Padres couldn't figure him out, DFA'd him, then the Royals couldn't, and so on.
  2. Good point, it's simply lazy to criticize the team for the likes of Hendriks and Tonkin (Brent Rooker is a shorter example that still applies to me) when they went through several years of irrelevancy with other teams. With the likes of Pressly and Cano who quickly flipped a switch with their next team, that's where I'm a bit concerned.
  3. At least there is competition this time around, and I had Podlesny as the top rated UDFA kicker (for what that's worth). Ryan Wright came out of nowhere last year to win the punting job, though I suspect that the Vikings value Joseph's ability to hit 50+ yard kicks and Podlesny was 2/4 in his entire career from that range.
  4. Here's my latest depth chart with the PFF ratings:
  5. Still waiting for action on the Dalvin Cook front... it is unclear if they are still trying to get him to take a pay cut or if they will trade him but just need to negotiate how much $$$ they'll eat. It doesn't seem like cutting him is on the table at this point.
  6. I think it'd be fair if those 3 pitchers made it and nobody else, seems pretty cut and dry.
  7. Heck of a game by an offense that didn't look like it would produce much! Weird how we're doing so well against the Astros and the Yankees. Varland is a legit MLB starter and I wouldn't move him out of the rotation for Maeda. Kenta hasn't been able to stay healthy and we could use him in the bullpen. I would hope he understands that, as I know he's not a fan of moving out of the rotation.
  8. I share similar concerns with SWR, he is really starting to scuffle. I don't care about the age, should we expect him to spend the next two years at AAA until he's 24 and then will arbitrarily be ready for the majors? Looks like Rodriguez is off to a slow start being sub .700 OPS, hopefully he kicks things into gear soon.
  9. Good win, glad to see the offense finally erupt against a pretty good starter. Gotta be concerned about the Lopez's, though. Pablo not as much, but he hasn't looked quite as good as he did the first few weeks.
  10. I agree, though I find it funny that many here were mad at Rocco for not using him in the 9th inning (which wasn't totally unreasonable because Pagan and Lopez were blowing saves) last year and instead utilized him as a firefighter in the 7th/8th innings. Now he's saved for the 9th, and it turns out the bullpen isn't good enough to get to the 9th. Yup, I agree with using him earlier in a jam. Better to use your closer to get you to the 9th rather than failing to get to the 9th with the lead blown.
  11. He was protected, but they DFA'd him a few months ago and nobody took him. That's pretty telling because if a team claims him they keep him, instead of having to carry him on the MLB roster for a full year.
  12. Still too early to tell for most of these guys, though I think we can safely say that Jeffers is a success as a 2nd round pick.
  13. Looks like it might be another lost season for Alcala. Not the news our bullpen needed, but it's not as if he was making a positive impact so far this year.
  14. I don't think it's hindsight, there were some of us - including me - that thought adding zero FA relievers was a bad idea and we could at least use a mid-guy like Chafin to bolster our depth. The offense is the bigger issue, but if we are expecting the Twins to build a team that can do damage in the playoffs, they've got to field a better bullpen then this. And yes, I know FA relievers are volatile - but at some point they need to roll the dice. Joe Smith was our biggest FA addition over the past two years, and if you look at the FO's entire FA history... is there a single success? It's not that they're bad at building a bullpen, but they should have taken similar steps to solidifying it the same way they were liberal with adding starters and adding depth to the lineup.
  15. Garlick is back again, it's kinda telling that they're bringing him up again instead of Wallner. At least he mashes lefties.
  16. 16 innings now, 0.00 ERA and 0 BBs. I was high on him as a prospect, and now he seems to be panning out. At least they got Lopez in the trade and didn’t DFA him, but it’s not a great look if he ends up being an effective high leverage reliever for them.
  17. I don't mean to do the whole "told you so" thing, but... well, I wondered where the runs were going to come from, especially after we traded Arraez. I was worried about how the hitting would fare against lefties, the numbers are rough. These batters better wake up or it's gonna be a long summer... and there will probably be more injuries over the next few months. Yikes.
  18. Keep him in the rotation for the near future - if more injuries strike, move him to the pen. Seems straightforward to me.
  19. Well, Kirilloff is finally up. Larnach going down isn't a huge surprise with how poor he's been at the plate recently. At some point, one of our first rounder hitters has to step up. Larnach's not looking good, Kirilloff's wrist can't stay healthy and will probably sap his power, and Wallner deserves a shot but it looks like he's gonna strike out a lot. Not to mention Sabato, who may not even reach the majors with the Twins.
  20. That was an intriguing first round, it felt like picks #11-18 were all weird reaches and left a lot of talent on the board... and then the Vikings took the 4th WR in the first round of a historically weak WR crop. Addison has serious upside, but I don't like how they left so much talent on the board, with Porter Jr/Banks/Murphy/Smith just sitting there. Or if they were dead-set on WR, then trade up for JSN, he's easily the best WR in this class. I'm not shocked at all that Hooker didn't go in the first round, his draft stock was inflated by the media to crazy degrees, he was never an option for the Vikings at #23. Levis falling to the 2nd is a big shock, especially with the odds of him going #2 or #4 were so high. So much for trading up to #3 to get him, they didn't even want him at #23, and no team was even willing to trade up to 31 for him!
  21. Yup, here come the pitching injuries, Mahle is probably going to be sidelined alongside Maeda. At least we have Ober/Varland ready and then also SWR/Headrick too. I've been encouraged by what I've seen out of Varland and Headrick in the majors. The Mahle trade is looking pretty rough so far...
  22. Turns out they skipped Maeda's previous turn in the rotation for a good reason... Color me surprised on Gallo so far, let's hope he can maintain this level of slugging later in the year. He was signed to play outfield initially, and he derives quite a bit of his value from playing well in the corners, so I expect him to be out there once Kirilloff is back, it just remains to be see if Kirilloff can hold down the 1B job.
  23. My point was that if both Martin and SWR flop, we lose because we could have turned Berrios' trade value into something else, there were other teams that had given the Twins offers on him. Failing to turn 1.5 years of control of him into a single useful MLB player would be a loss in my book. Obviously too early to call, but the trade is looking questionable for both sides right now.
  24. Sounds like the spitting image of Jake Odorizzi - gets the Ks, but throws too many pitches and is usually 'good enough' but never takes the next step. Yeah, I'd be fine not paying a bunch for Gray, with the likes of Varland/Ober/SWR in the wings.
