  1. Agreed, I'd put the Pressly and Wade trades over the Arraez and Rogers/Pagan trade. We at least got a quality starting pitcher in Lopez and didn't lose that much value in the Rogers trade, while Pressly has been one of the best relievers in baseball and we got two prospects who have looked like AAAA players, and we dumped Wade for absolutely nothing.
  2. My question is, why are these players stupid enough to gamble on games when it is widely known that the minimum penalty is a full season suspension? Calvin Ridley should have been an example to all last year, yet there's already been 5 guys suspended so far. Why?!
  3. It seems to me he's no longer hiding his frustration with the team anymore: Not to mention how he's been ejected a couple times the past week. I know folks like to hate on Rocco for being bland and overbearingly politically correct in his post-game pressers, but I think behind the scenes he has been signing a different tune. I have to wonder if deep down he is thinking "why the heck did we hire a High A coach to be our major league batting coach"?
  4. Wow, that's a disgusting chart. The hitters really mailed it in today. Sounds like Rocco tore into them behind closed doors, seeing as how the media wasn't allowed in the locker room after the game. I'd guess he's at his wit's end.
  5. Exactly, I think he winds up as a #2 or 3 starter. While there have been plenty of pitchers who have consistently underperformed their FIP, I feel confident about Lopez's ERA regressing to the mean. I am willing to predict he gets super hot in August or September and ends up with an ERA under 3.8, if not lower.
  6. 4 errors and 5 HRs from the Braves, what a odd game from them. Eddie is still who he used to be, with the 2 errors in the outfield.
  7. It's a common trend to see the negative crowd jump speak out more loudly in a game thread where we lost, it's not as if they just jumped off the deep end because of this game. Also, we lost 5/6 right before that 4/5 stretch. This is clearly a middling team that isn't good enough to be a contender, but not bad enough to sink down deeper into this terrible division.
  8. I wouldn't write off Prelander Berroa yet - he has had solid numbers and might make it as a MLB reliever, though he will need to learn to stop giving out walks. The Giants traded him to Seattle and he was protected before the Rule 5 draft, so he is likely to crack the majors at some point.
  9. I hadn't see anyone say that, ever... wasn't Arraez one of the least shifted against players? I thought defenses didn't bother to shift because of his ability to spray the ball around the field.
  10. I think it's worth noting that the initial Arraez trade rumors started with something along the lines of the Marlins offering just Lopez for Arraez and the Twins rebuffed them, but getting Salas was the deal-maker. We'll have to see how Salas pans out to be able to fully evaluate the trade, seeing as how he was considered to be a top 10 prospect for the Marlins. The third player is a lottery ticket.
  11. I'll follow that up with a prediction - Lopez will finish the year with an ERA under 3.80, and he will also pitch at least 170 innings on the season.
  12. Have you seen our AAA pitching? It’s pretty bad, their best starter would be Headrick who just got drubbed, SWR is a disaster and Dobnak has a WHIP of almost 2. The manager means nothing when your players are bad.
  13. I have confidence that Lopez will turn around and be a fairly good starter going forward (confidence in Pablo, not the Twins)... but maybe don't trade the reigning batting champion in his prime. The front office wisely sold high on a few guys in early 2022 (Garver, Rogers, Donaldson), but it turned out Arraez didn't reached his ceiling in 2022.
  14. Eh, did you watch any baseball from 2011 to 2016? The 2011-14 teams were garbage while the 2016 Total System Failure was an abomination on the eyes. The pitching we have is way, way better than what those teams had. Then again, we are potentially facing a third straight losing season, getting close to matching the 4 straight losing seasons from 2011-14... Bold of you to assume there even is a DFA clock on him!
  15. He might be a DH-only, so it'd be nice if a certain someone could start playing in his natural position rather than DH...
  16. It's disappointing seeing Varland begin to crater like this. I wonder if it's a "hitters figuring him out" problem or just the fact that his stuff isn't quite good enough? I mentioned he had the look of a legit MLB starter in a post a couple weeks back, and while that was still as a #4 or 5 starter - this isn't a good look. And then we finally get to see Balazovic pitch for the first time with the Twins... it's hard to believe it took him so long to make it up here. The dude's already in his final option year! I can't say anything that hasn't already been said about the hitters. I'd rather see the young players struggle in the majors than the veterans, and it's incredible how much rope Kepler has gotten. I'm just about done with Gallo, but his OPS is still high enough that he'll probably be given the entire rest of the season to try and prove that the FO was right to sign him. He's just flat-out not a good hitter like Sano - he'll contribute with walks and a hit XBH rate, but the frequently of awful at bats is so high that it prevents him from moving runners or doing anything against pitchers with nastier stuff. The dude has 3 career sac flies!! In almost 3000 plate appearances!!! Having the easiest schedule in baseball is nice, but that doesn't mean you will automatically win a majority of those games. Good teams will lose a series every once in a while to a bad team, but I think we've seen enough from the Twins to know that they aren't good. Not bad, but clearly not going anywhere.
  17. It's inexcusable that Wallner isn't in the majors right now. Kepler is a sub replacement level hitter and the team needs a jolt, and we may as well figure out if Wallner can handle the majors now rather than later.
  18. The restricted list? Hmmmm... There might be a story here, or perhaps a personal emergency of some sort?
  19. Absolutely, Castro's speed on the basepaths and ability to play multiple positions decently well gives him utility over Kepler - not to mention that his career OPS, which is pretty bad, is still better than Kepler 2022-23. Oh, and he can at least play CF (even if he's not great at it) while Kepler simply won't anymore.
  20. I see Rodriguez and Martin as the primary locks. Enlow is probably back on the 40 man after getting removed. Severino is a tricky one because I think this will be the third year he is eligible, he makes sense as a trade candidate. Camargo fit the free agent market last year and returned on a MILB deal, and doesn't seem to be valuable enough to be protected. Funderburk and Grace are middling minor league relievers who don't need to be protected. Feels like we have a couple of these relievers reach AAA every year but then never end up doing anything, whether it be Mason Melotakis, Tom Hackimer, Jake Reed, etc.
  21. The problem, this isn't going to happen because the front office doesn't want to have a third straight losing season in a row. They pitched the idea of "sustainable competitiveness" and yet here we are in year 7 of the regime and we're not much better off than where we started. I don't know if the Pohlads are anywhere ready to be handing out pink slips, but Falvine is more likely to acquire a couple rentals or get a couple guys with control to at least win the division so they can buy some more time... despite the fact that the team will be totally buoyed by being in a horrifically bad division.
  22. I'd rather stick with just having the Paddack contract rather than having him and Mahle. With Ryan, Varland, and Ober on their rookie deals and Lopez just signing an extension, I think we are good with the rotation the way it is. And that's not mentioning what to do with Sonny Gray. Hard pass.
  23. You want those two months of Eduardo Escobar back for full control of Jhoan Duran, just because he gave up a single run yesterday?! BTW, Eddie would not be helping this team right now with his subpar 670 OPS.
  24. Darn, it's hard to believe they couldn't even get a 2024 7th for him. This means they lose an extra $2M by cutting him rather than trading him because of the injury guarantee he had. I suppose teams just do not want to pay $9M for a RB who is more on the average side now. The Vikings now go into the season with the least talented RB room in the league, but RB is a position where a 5th or a 7th rounder like Chandler or McBride could pop off, so I don't hate the approach. I hope people don't have their expectations too high for 2023... because they're clearly taking a step back and gathering cap space for 2024. I don't think they win close to 13 games again.
  25. I don't think the roster is close to being great, they have several deficiencies in the lineup and the bullpen. The lineup was questionable from the start and has too many injury-prone players. Too many backup-caliber players are playing full-time roles and many situations are out of control of the coaching staff (Buxton not in CF, Wallner at AAA, Kepler still on the team are front office / collaboration decisions). IMO The biggest issue with the coaching staff is the fact that they hired an unqualified batting coach who is likely in over his head.
