  1. I agree the Cotton move was odd. I'm not going to lose sleep over it, but with a bullpen with so many question marks, it's strange that they would cut him loose without even really giving him a chance.
  2. I'm in the camp that doesn't really get this trade. I just can't believe they blew a hole in their bullpen for a reclamation project like Paddack. Given that....I'm hoping that PTBNL is someone the Twins really covet, and not some toss-in/lotto ticket type.
  3. Not having a real closer killed this team last year, and it looks like history is repeating itself.
  4. "Neither Falvey nor Levine would comment on the fact that TC Bear is not a real bear, but in fact a person in a pretend bear costume....." LIES!!!
  5. Bumping Ober to the pen would be the wrong move, mainly because Ober is a better pitcher than Paddack. Archer is not stretched out, so I'm guessing someone will be splitting innings with him for the first few weeks. I would put Paddack in the pen until the situation works itself out.
  6. They are paying Bundy $4 million this year and hold a team option for 2023. They are going to give him every possible chance to succeed, for better or worse.
  7. The other issue is where do you put Paddack? I doubt Bundy and Archer signed contracts here to pitch out of the pen. Is Paddack going to be a reliever?
  8. I don't get it. Paddack hasn't been good in two years. And the team control won't matter if he has a lingering elbow issue. Paddack brings no value added over other pitching options.
  9. I don't get this at all. Paddack is terrible. Who's going to take Roger's spot in the pen? This front office once again leaves me puzzled.
  10. What's Paddock worth straight up? I don't think I would even give them Larnach. Paddock is young and controllable, but he's also been terrible the last two seasons. I would rather see Winder get a chance. (Yesterday was the first time I saw Winder pitch. Count me in as one of the true believers.). They don't need Paddock. The guys at St Paul would give the Twins a better chance to win
  11. I'm not against two catchers, but when one of them is Sanchez...??? I guess I just have to trust that the coaches have no trouble with his defense.
  12. I thought he was out of options. Didn't he have to clear waivers?
  13. Someone is going to have to get cut from the 40-man. Vallimont?
  14. Martin doesn't belong AA. He can hit at a major league level. I guess he can work on his fielding at St. Paul.
  15. I was surprised no one asked Falvey about the Kiner-Falefa/Donaldson trade. He said the Correa deal came together quickly on Friday, but what happened the previous weekend that caused the Twins to do a complete 180 and trade Kiner-Falefa as part of the Donaldson salary dump? Did it become apparent last weekend that the Twins would have a chance to land Correa?
  16. Something is gonna have to give soon so they can add Correa to the 40 man.
  17. If the price gets too high, they could also wait for the trade deadline and get a 3 month rental. Maybe see if Cueto can hold down a spot in the near term. I am guessing Oakland will want one of Martin/Lewis and also a top pitching prospect. Would I do this for Montas? No, I would not. That would effectively be giving up more than what we received for Berrios. Also, the Twins are in the position they're in because they can't develop good pitching. They should not be giving away top pitching prospects. I think the highest I would go for Montas is one of Martin/Lewis and a lesser pitching prospect in the 10-20 range.
  18. That what shocks me about this. Are you telling me the Astros, Yankees, and half a dozen other legit playoff contenders wouldn't do this deal?
  19. The way this off-season has gone, I might start smoking as well.
  20. Does the Kris Bryant contract price Story out of the Twins budget? You could make a strong argument that Story has been the better player, and they are approximately the same age.
  21. As much as I hate this trade for the Twins, I really don't understand it from the Yankee perspective either. Yeah, Kiner-Falefa fills a hole for them, but taking on Donaldson's contract puts them $20 million over the CBT threshold this year (according to COTs), and possibly next year as well. In addition to the $50 million he's still owed, they could realistically end up paying $10 million in additional luxery tax from this trade. They better hope he stays on the field. I get it's the Yankees, but I gotta think that's a tough pill to swallow, even for them. https://legacy.baseballprospectus.com/compensation/cots/
  22. Signed a minor league deal with Miami. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/03/marlins-sign-willians-astudillo-to-minors-contract.html
  23. You forgot one interesting tidbit about Sonny Gray's time in NY. There is evidence that his lack of success had at least something to do with.....Gary Sanchez! And now they're together again! https://www.nj.com/yankees/2018/05/why_yankees_sonny_gray_wants_and_needs_austin_romi.html#incart_river_index Nothing personal against Gary Sanchez. I'm sure he's a good person, but I don't see how he fits on this team. They need a reliable defense-first backup catcher, and that's not him. He's still got some pop in his bat, but hasn't had a credible OBP since 2018. If they use him at DH he'll just be taking at bats away from younger guys who will hopefully still be around when this team is back in the playoffs (whenever that might be). If they can't trade him, then I would not be opposed to just releasing him.
  24. Just looking at the remaining free agents, there's not much left at C and SS. Stephen Vogt is still listed as available. Can't hit, but supposedly his defense has improved. At SS it's Story or bust, which I'm sure his agent is well aware of. (I'm not including Correia.)
