I would vote none, but Since Guardado is in I guess I would go with Worthington and Perkins.

Kind of like Cody forgot to do some research. Javier was extended though age 30, Keller though age 32, and Webb though 31. The twins already have Ober though age 31. The writers on this site Love to talk about the age of prospects being X number of years younger in the minors, but love to ignore age in other discussions. The only Twins pitcher that the Twins should talk about extending is SWR (because of age)
-
Kepler and Polanco are gone and both are still younger than the age the Twins have Ober controlled though. The idea of the Twins extending players they have controlled though age 30 or beyond, is crazy talk IMO. Also unless the Twins are grossly going to over pay, why in the world would Ober or do this?
-
Isn't that what they did with Polanco?

IMO, the Twins have been a year late calling up just about everybody (maybe not Lee) but Wallner, Julien, Miranda and probably Martin (Severino?) they hold them down a year and then don't really know what they have and the player is always getting older. Regardless of what people think on this board, most of the starting type players in this league take a bit to succeed but that usually is in the lower 20's (22,23) and by age 25 they have figured it out or not, The Twins players are not in the majors until that age and are still trying to figure it out or not in their prime years say 26-28. Now that is a great way to never have to pay your own prospects real money, but.... EDIT - I was one of the people saying Keirsey should have been called up in straight from AA in 23.
-
What was Keirsey really doing that was screaming call him up? He was a 26 year old in AA doing things a 26 year old has to do just to stay in baseball, but if you go back and compare him to other center fielders that year in AA he was a barely a top 5 offensive guy and was the oldest one. Some many years younger. Then in AAA last year his numbers compared to Stevenson's the year before are nothing crazy, and again when you are 27 that is the kind of numbers required just to stay in baseball, otherwise some younger shiny object will pass you by, is that fair? probably not I believe he good enough to stick in the majors for a few years, but unless he gets traded to a last place team not trying he will never be given the chance to prove himself. In MN he does have a better chance of Buxton getting hurt and playing so well in CF that the Twins are forced to play him. Unfortunately for Prato, Holland, Williams, Helman and McCusker are probably in the same situation.
-
He will be 28 very soon, so to include him in the 26-30 is very misleading. And there are NOT a lot of good MLB players that blossom at this age, there are very, very few which is why teams generally don't give guys like this much of a chance. (You could say Rooker, but he was in the majors at age 25, 26 and a bit at 27 before blossoming for a last place team that went 50 - 112 at age 28) Whit Merrifield is another and was given a chance on a .500 team that within 2 years was winning less than 60 games. I wish Keirsey all the luck in the world and hope he is the exception to the rule and not the rule.
-
The only teams that give a soon to be 28 year old (May 13th) a real shot are teams that aren't really trying or know they can't compete. I am fine with him as a 4th/5th outfielder and short term fill in, but in no way should he be blocking any real prospect. With that said I hope he makes the best of his opportunity and forces the Twins hand by being crazy good. (Don't think it will happen, but I hope it does)
-
If the Twins do this, the FO should be the first out the door IMO.

Do you think Rodriguez’s approach can work or does he need to make adjustments to avoid becoming the next Edouard Julien? Such a ridiculous statement, Julien put up a 130 OPS+ as a rookie and had a bad second year (not the first nor the last player this has and will happen to) and we have no idea if he turns into the player he was as a rookie, second year or somewhere in between. Larnach, AK, Gordon, and others have never put up a 130+, would it be a disappointment if EROD put a rookie year like Julien and never seen the bigs again, absolutely, but 99% of minor league players will never do that. Can we talk about our hopes and dreams with Erod without denigrating Julien?

The Twins bought out Lopez until age 31, they already have Ryan and Lopez locked up until that age, Can't seem them extending either of those two, and IMO they shouldn't. If you don't bring up a starting pitcher until age 25 you ride them until free agency or trade them, you don't extend them, contracts like that are for guys that came up younger.

If the twins were to treat Jax like the Braves treated Lopez, basically a 6 inning 90 pitch pitcher from the start, then I would consider it. I don't believe the Twins would do that, so my answer would be no.

Twins Trade Candidate Breakdown: Willi Castro
TwinsDr2021 replied to Lou Hennessy's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
IMO there is a difference between the key piece of a team and vital part of the team. For example SWR wasn't the key piece to the Twins rotation but he played a vital role. And yes, he should be getting a demotion from the playing time he got in 24, not a promotion or even the same playing time. He is an average major league starter which I believe his OPS+ the last two years prove. -
Twins Trade Candidate Breakdown: Willi Castro
TwinsDr2021 replied to Lou Hennessy's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Castro being the Twins MVP says way more about the Twins 24 season then how great Castro was or is. Castro is a fringe everyday player but great player when allowed to do what he does well (and that isn't starting and playing everyday) I would argue pretty hard that he wasn't the key to the 23 success but was a vital part of the team success. I think ignoring Lewis, Wallner, Julien, Kepler, Jeffers, Gray, Lopex, Duran and others is a disservice to the the team. If the plan for 25 doesn't include Castro starting but be a super utility guy again playing 120 or so games, I say tender him and keep him on the team. If the idea is to make him a starter or play him like a starter all over the field, I am all for tendering and trading or just non tendering him. I don't want him taking a starting spot from Lee or Erod. -
Twins Trade Candidate Breakdown: Griffin Jax
TwinsDr2021 replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Trading Jax IMO completely would depend on the return , I agree with others we don't need more prospects. As for Jax starting, that seems like a joke to me, he hasn't started since 21 and pitched a 100 innings since then either, we don't need another 5 inning starting pitcher or less. -
8 years into a regime and you are going to be patient with a total rebuild. No thanks

Emmanuel Rodriguez Is Coming In Hot
TwinsDr2021 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
In my perfect world they put EROD in one of the starting outfield spots and give him the year. Similar to what the Yanks did with Volpe, what the Padres did with Merrill, what the Brewers did with Chourio, or what the Rangers did with Langford. But it is more likely a situation like Corbin Carroll, where they give him some time to get hot in AA, move him up to AAA and the Twins towards the end of the year, not a horrible way to do it, he would still be 22 when he makes the Twins.
