I don't remember hearing that, but it wouldn't surprise me that people did, I have seen quite a few Twins prospects compared to Hall of Fame type players. (It was only 7 days ago where Seth Stohs said - Oh, and be sure to get Luke Keaschall and his Trout-like swing ) Sano to Cabrera, EROD being compared to Soto, Eeles compared to Altuve, McCusker to Nelson Cruz, Keirsey to some late blooming HOF outfielder, even Martin being the next Arraez with speed and many others I am leaving out.

My guess is he will be closer to 75-80 innings this year, 110-120 next year, and full go in 27, which would be a good process on deciding what to do with Ryan/Ober/Lopez in 26/27 And very similar to what Ragans went though. 80.2 (age 23), 130 (age 24), 127 (age 25), 186 (age 26) and 1 year younger. Fingers crossed!

If I was Varland, I would tell the Twins if I am in the majors, I will do anything you ask, starting, relief, the guy that switches out the bases, anything, but if I am going to AAA I want to start, going from starting in AAA to relief pitching in the majors shouldn't be that difficult, even if I am 10th in the pecking order for starter, maybe a team loses a starter and would trade for me.

IMO, against lefties (and everybody healthy) Bader (LF), Buxton(CF), Wallner (RF, taking turns with Larnach), France (DH), against righties, Castro (LF), Buxton(CF), Wallner RF, Larnach DH. Bader will also get time in CF when Buxton needs time off against righties. My guess is that Bader plays the most games in the outfield.

When was Joe Ryan a sure fire prospect? He was a 7th round pick in 2018, wasn't the Rays top 30 prospects in 2019, 2020 he was their 8th, 2021 he was their 14th, was traded to the Twins and was the 4th rated prospect in 2022. Not trying to take anything away from him because he has been pretty darn good. Lewis will be 26 in July and hasn't played more than 82 games in the majors, he hasn't made it yet, but he sure does look like if he can stay healthy he will. Just for comparisons Buxton had played in 393 games going into his age 26 season and had a WAR of 9, Lewis has played in 152 games with a WAR of 3.4.
-
The only factor that could matter is health and not something serious. He tweaks something and Julien or Eeles are so damn good and Lewis at 3B and CC at short are healthy and raking, that the only place Lee can get regular playing time is AAA. He rakes in AAA and makes a tough decision next off season on what to do with him and the others (since everybody's trade value will have went up) If he ends up in the minors because he needs to figure stuff out or isn't better than the guys in the majors, IMO he turns into another top pick that might not be a failure but isn't the plug and play type of player you hope out of your top 8 first round pick, and yes he could become a full time player on some other team but it won't be in MN, because recent history has shown that is not it happens here.
-
He turned 24 three days ago. I think him being the Twins top prospect two years, just must be the definition of former top prospect. If he doesn't end the year as a full time starter somewhere on the field, he goes into his third major league season as a utility player, thus the might it or break it.

Ranking the Top 5 Twins Prospects in Big-League Camp
TwinsDr2021 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Isn't this pretty much the staff from AA that went 58 - 80 minus Festa? I am not saying it shouldn't be pretty darn good, pitching wasn't exactly the problem with the AA team last year, it was the last of talent on the offensive side of the equation. (minus a small amount of games from EROD, Keaschall, and Jenkins. Raya 24 starts, Adams 19 starts, Lewis 13 starts, Matthews 9- 17 replies

IMO, he was brought in as first base depth, but more importantly to DH against Lefties. With the current bench of Vazquez, Castro, Bader and (Martin/Julien/Lee depending on who the primary second basemen is) doesn't really leave a DH against lefties. I think they realized Castro just isn't good enough to be a full time player and definitely not worthy of a being a DH against lefties (,674 OPS last year and .686 career), Bader isn't worthy of a DH position and most likely will be starting for Larnach or Wallner. Julien, Martin and Lee aren't either (depending on who is even on the roster) Plus if Lee is the starting 2B, they might put Miranda at 3B and France at first against the tougher righties and give Lewis a rest if Martin is the guy on the bench and not Julien.

NEWS: Twins Agree to Sign Infielder Ty France
TwinsDr2021 replied to Matthew Trueblood's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Actually I never correct spelling or grammar, so your clever insult wasn't actually an insult, it was an assumption, and you know how those go. Falvey became a Twin October 3 2016, the payroll in 2017 was just under 121 million with an attendance of 2 plus million, Since then attendance has been flat or declined, the payroll the same, but jumped in 2022 (150) and 2023 (155) and then went down 2024 (129) and went back up this year a bit (136). In that time the Twins have won one playoff series and 3 playoff games. (I am not defending the owners) At some point isn't it a middle tier team's front offices job to develop players to take over positions and not just fill them with free agents, that really seems to be the issue with this team, not the lack of payroll.- 279 replies

Here is what you considered Handed the starting job. First series of the season (KC) - 1, 1, 4 at bats Second series (Mil) - 1, 0 at bats Third series (Clev) - 1, 2, 0 fourth series (LAD) - 1, 4, 0 fifth series(Det) - 1,5,3,0 sixth series (Bal) - 1 and then gone That is 26 at bats in 17 games, did the Twins really hand him the job? By 4/15 (Wallners last game) Margot had 34(.189/.286/.270) and Martin had 29 (.242/.306/.333), Castro had 40 and was slashing .111/.231/.200 when Wallner was sent down. Castro and AK were the starting left fielder in games 1 and 2 on the the Wallner started in right game 2 and got one at bat. He wasn't handed the job it seems he was just filling in until Larnach got there. (I get it he sucked but so was everybody else)

I agree, but just keeping things in perspective his WAR the last 4 years is more than Ober or Ryan and some people on this site are falling all over themselves to get them signed to an extension. (I think Ryan and Ober are both better, my point is extending them isn't going to be cheap and they are not young)

If Julien needs to be sent down and not worthy if others get hurts, what the heck is he doing on the 40? Trade him for anybody that doesn't required a 40 man, Hey maybe for the rule 5 guy. Larnach, Wallner, Buxton, CC, Lewis, Miranda, Jeffers, France, Vazquez, Castro, Bader, that leaves two spots, 1 for a second basemen (I go with Lee) and one for a bench guy (Julien/Keirsay/Martin) against RH starters I would assume the starters are Buxton, Wallner, Larnach, CC, Lewis, Lee, Miranda, catcher, Julien (DH) with a bench of Bader, Catcher, Castro, France. against LH starters, Bader, Buxton, Castro, Lewis, CC, Lee, catcher, Miranda, France with a bench of Wallner, Larnach, Catcher and Julien. Not super happy with that, and of course it won't be that way every time, but I don't see a path for Keirsay making the team until an injury, and would like Wallner to start every game, but....

NEWS: Twins Agree to Sign Infielder Ty France
TwinsDr2021 replied to Matthew Trueblood's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
First like to point out I am not a huge fan of Martin, but if 329 PA is not a huge chance compared to giving a worse hitter (Margot) 343 it is justification for a poor FO plan.- 279 replies

First off this is bad analogy, Second Falvey knew the job when he took it. You took a job saying you know the conditions then blame the owner because of those?- 279 replies

At what cost? they both will should earn over 10 in 26 and over 14 in 27, so you is that 3 for 60? or the Lopez contract 4/73? Is that worth it, is it enough?

These guys are nothing like what Atlanta did. Riley was going to be a FA in his age 29 season.(10 year 212 million) Acuna was going to be a FA in his age 27 season. (8 year 100 million and could be a FA at age 31, with two club options prior) Harris was going to be a FA in his age 27 season. (8 year 72 million and could be a FA at age 32, with two club options prior) Albies was going to be a FA in his age 27 season.(7 year 35 million and could be a FA at age 31, ,with two club options prior) Strider was going to be a FA in his age 29 season.(6 year 75 million and could be a FA at age 31, with one club options prior) Murphy was going to be a FA in his age 31 season and better than Jeffers. (6 year 73 million and could be a FA at age 35, with one club options prior) That is a over a half of billion dollars! The Twins only guys that is close to any of top guys are Lee and SWR. And maybe a couple of guys in the minors. The Twins have not been good at what Atlanta has been doing at all, they have been good at driving down the players future earning by keeping them (or not getting good enough guys) in the minors in their early 20's thus avoiding having to pay them market value in their prime. @bean5302 is 100% correct! EDIT - I missed Matt Olson, he was going to be a FA in his age 30 season (8 year 168 million and could be a FA at age 37, with one club options prior)

Not disagreeing with you, but the 5 guys IMO available for hat DH spot would be Castro, Bader, Vazquez, Martin, and other one of Lee/Julien. Who goes for a DH/1B type? It can't be the first three, It could be Martin or Julien. They could go with Castro in the OF and Wallner/Larnach DH, but man does that leave one weak ass bench. I don't like how this FO has built the roster this year.

and yet they got Bader, If this is a must and I am not saying it isn't maybe do a better job, I mean that is the FO job isn't it? They have had all off season, a minor leagues full of assets and obviously some cash to do it and this is the best they could do and people are justifying it by saying they could have done worse? If they couldn't find a viable option well then maybe think outside the box and bring in a LF or RF fielder that isn't subpar, move Wallner or Larnch to DH, and when Buxton goes down put Keirsay in CF (I mean because defense is so important) and move Wallner or Larnach back to the outfield. There are other ways to fix issues than saying you don't have any money to spent and then spending what money you have a replacement level player. Remind me again how long this FO has been here and haven't come up with 1 viable center-field option, knowing the whole time Buxton's health history. If they couldn't find anything less expensive and similar to Bader, I would have called up Lewis and said we did all we could to improve center field but nobody was going to be better than you, Come to spring training prepared to play some center field, it better for your career than 2nd base. If he gets injured again, so be it, it is better to know that before paying him real money.

What is one sure fire way to keep payroll low(er), never let your prospects hit FA in their prime. If they can hold off ERod one more year and the other big two a couple of years, their earning power goes down. Now a smart team with get Jenkins and Keaschall up as soon as possible and quickly signed them to a couple year extension, buying out their prime years or you can hold them back and say they need more seasoning.
