It's Imperative That the Twins Tame the Tigers Now
Blyleven2011 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Detroit tigers aren't quite there yet ... The twins definitely aren't quite there yet either ... The twins had all spring to prepare for games that count and the batters look lost at there preparation towards the game , the plan continues to hit the ball hard and hit homeruns , the players don't adjust to situational hitting when they need it ... If the manager can't make any adjustments during the game , then to guess the players to make adjustments is lunacy ... A boring start to the season , so much for a fast start ... I've been away the past 7 weeks but have followed the team through spring and the start of the season ... We can't continue to go through just the motions to be considered a contending team , the manager needs to put some drive into the lineup , GOOD LUCK WITH THAT ...- 19 replies

I wasn't suggesting anything ... I stated the trade will come down to Miller for doncon , plus one year of Margot , no way the twins pick up the option cause they don't have to pay the opt out of 2 million ,,, If you read Roger's post , I was basically responding to that , he didn't like the trade ... I have nothing against it ...

They got Margot, prospect and cash to pay down the margot contract for this year , Margot has an option for next year with a 2 million buy out that Tampa Bay will pay as they traded Margot to dodgers earlier in the off season ... No way will twins pick up the option , they will let Tampa pay the buyout and the trade will be Noah Miller for prospect doncon ... How do you like the trade now , hurts a little more doesn't it ???

Its likely just for this year , I can't see the twins picking up the option for 12 million plus next year on Margot ... The the 2 million buy out is paid by Tampa Bay .. More of a Solano type player , not much power , but his defense should be good in the outfield ...

Why am I a fan of this (fake) poverty franchise?
Blyleven2011 replied to AZDane's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Yes , maybe it was just Eloise that liked , I forgot all about those business swindles ... -
Why am I a fan of this (fake) poverty franchise?
Blyleven2011 replied to AZDane's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
America's past time means nothing to them , it's all about the money .... It's a game , we need a new owner that loves the sport , Eloise and Carl loved the game , the boys inherited the team and the money from their parents ,, what a sad life to have money and not spend it on their legacy of bringing a world championship to the fans and state of Minnesota ... Especially since they inherited a billion or so and didn't earn it ... I have enough money for the rest of my life and I love spending money wisely , i dont have enoughto own the team though ... -
I'm going to change this up and not complain about the payroll , it's fine ... What I will complain about is that with Rocco , FO and the pohlads we will never win a world series with their plan .... Boy am I going to get a lot of thumbs down on this one , realistically I remember 2021 and 2022 all so well and first half of lineup in 23 , pitching saved us last year most definitely ... I remember 2019 as well , Rocco was manager of the year only because the players had career years in the juiced ball , 2020 also was a winning season , Rocco and FO mismanaged the post season in both those years ... We dont need to be followers of other teams , let's be creative and innovated and bring back an exciting game of baseball, the other teams might not be ready for it ... Please , the strikeouts do matter and please put an emphasis on contact , fundamentals and let the wins pile up by playing baseball the way it should be played , it was played the same way for over 150 years ... If you really are a fan of baseball you shouldn't be complaining about the length of game , it's a nine inning game or then some , get used to and if you have children , leave in the 7th inning and tuck them in ... I used to go to most of the old double headers they used to have , 2 games for the price of one , MAN WAS I IN HEAVEN ...

Twins A Finalist for Utility-man Kiké Hernandez's Services
Blyleven2011 replied to wiguy94's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Solano was a late sign , and he had a good year with the twins as it turned out ... Lightning doesn't always strike twice in the same spot and I'm hoping fO isn't thinking that way , unless it's DFA money ... Kiki could be had for low cost prove it contract , the guy plays everywhere and would be nice if signed and had a good season with us ... I do prefer using our talent from our minors , got to let them play at this level sometime ... We do have enough utility players ... -
The walks were up and the strikeouts down ... Hope that continues ...

He has some skills and is probably close to his debut , he most likely will start the season in AAA even if he outplays another player ... If he can bat ninth and Julien 1 and Lewis 2 , Correa or Buxton 3rd we will score a bunch of runs through out the game , last year it seemed we stalled in the later innings to score runs , at least in the first half ... We need to find hitters that get on base , drive in runs , hit in the clutch , etc. ... We have now lost 2 decent hitters in the past 2 years , we need replacements like Correa performing like he's capable of doing and Buxton improving his swing , it's been terrible the past 2 seasons due to injuries alternating his swing ....

WAR! HAH! What is it good for?
Blyleven2011 commented on Doctor Gast's blog entry in Doctor Gast's Blog
Very good doc ... I agree that catcher is the most important and demanding position ... I sure hope the voters aren't just looking at WAR to cast their votes , there is so much more to the game than hitting home runs ... If Ricky Henderson hit 230 for his career , he still would have gotten in the hof as the best base stealer in the game , boy did he like to run ... -
Video: Twins Are Stacking the Bullpen
Blyleven2011 replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thats how I see it ,,, The bullpen has been addressed this off season and on paper appears very solid with depth ... The reason they addressed the bullpen in my opinion is because of the payroll reduction , they weren't going to afford starters so they only had the money to make the bullpen a strength The rotation is not as strong as last year so far , could change ... We have starting pitchers right now to win the weak central division , but I'm not comfortable in the playoffs chances ... Trading for a quality starting pitcher now withvless stress is a lot cheaper on prospects , the FO office has done well in off-season trades , gallo was not a trade , he was a free agent and I'm still not sure why they signed him , i really think they were planning on trading Kepler , but it didn't happen ... the FO office at the deadline with haste9 has not been as fortunate in acquiring good pitchers , they have lost some prospects by over spending on pitching that couldn't or didnt help us for the playoff push , every trade at the deadline , I would grade a D or most of them definitely a F ...- 1 reply

Offseason Status Update: Is This It?
Blyleven2011 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I totally agree , I was just playing along with fatbat ... I agree these remaining free agents want stupid money and no way I would pay it ... No water Snell, bellinger , maybe Montgomery but the years and money are to high for the Twins ... Teams cut salary this season and alot of them probably will go through this tv revenue thing again in 2025 or until it is all resolved , so budgets will be tight ... -
Offseason Status Update: Is This It?
Blyleven2011 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I wish you were the owner and shell out the money ... but I'll go one better and the The twins could buy hired gun Snell , Monty and belli ,,, cost 90 million for the year and still be under the salary tax cap for 2024 and ĝo for a run at the title , 30 million each for 1 year deals for the pohlads to just to go for it , it isn't the Twins way to over spend in free agency and I don't think signing all 3 would win us a world series )... I really don't like any of these three , but Montgomery would be my pick if I had to pick , the free agent class wasn't especially strong this year and definitely are not worth the money they are seeking ... I'll just go with our youth and prospects ... We should make the playoffs again this year but again might fail to go beyond the ALDS , but anything can happen ... The twins roster just doesn't feel complete yet but after spring training I might feel differently ... -
I've seen others post in other forums ,.. Is the person the best of his era or decade ... Santana had excellent numbers once he established the change up ... He ended career early due to injuries and is comparable to Koufax in alot of categories ... Is it enough , Cy young awards , allstar selections but no championships ... He had some post seasons but no championships world series ... When voting for the hall of fame I don't think the voters should take into consideration the playoffs an world series statistics ... When voting for a Cy young or MVP, these awards are voted on season statistics ... Santana had one of the best change ups during his era or decade , by developing that change up he definitely was a game changer of his era or decade , with the injuries his career was cut short , but his legacy should live in in the hall of fame ....

I just don't see it , we are covered at every position bellinger can cover , we can cover those positions with a cheaper cost , in house candidates ... I would like another solid bat added to the lineup but bellinger had 3 bad seasons in a row and then put together 1 good make good season for a chance at a big payday , I'd be really surprised if we can afford another contract over 100 million ... The FO said they are lowering payroll and I'm sure they are sticking to their gun as they view 2025 with the same problem ( uncertainty of TV revenue )

One thing that concerns me is the late bloomer Topa , he has had 1 good season and is in his early 30's ... Remember a pitcher we traded for that was a starter and then turned relief pitcher , had a great first half for Baltimore as a relief pitcher and made the allstar team ( lopez ) , we traded for Lopez at deadline and he hasn't had the same success since leaving Baltimore ... I sure hope Topa is not one in the same ... Spring training is for building a roster for those that earn it , on paper our bullpen possibilities look promising ...

Spring training there are always talks about extentions ... Is it the right thing to do , i would like the FO to at least explore it but not necessarily , go through the process and feel it out with lewis this year ... then next year if he has 500 ats bats by staying healthy and is a game changer , then jump back in a work on a deal that has incentives due to possible injures ... And remember insurance is taken out on these big contract , what percentage I think it's about 80 percent and it is costly , but in the long run it helps the team , it doesn't cut salary but it helps get some money back for budget ... I'd take the risk for Lewis after this season , please stay healthy royce ...

Doc , I think Miranda starts in aaa and he has to earn his way back , that's what I would do , not just hand it back to him after his injured year ... Santana is good defensively but who knows if age has caught up to him , switch hitter ( Santana) to replace Polanco ( switch hitter ) , that part makes alittle sense on paper but well see how it plays out , can he continue to hit alittle above average ( Santana ) , let's hope so ...

Hitting , hitting and more hitting is what we need and last years rookies sparked the lineup in the second half along with Polanco .... The twins batters were flat the first half and we can't have that again ... We are going to have to score more runs per games , starting pitching isn't quite the same as last year , they kept us in alot of games , and the bullpen didn't get worn down last year as previous years ... Now they have added depth in the bullpen and it appears on paper to finally be the strongest part of the team ... I think FO finally felt they needed a bullpen of strength cause they also see the starting pitching not rock solid ...
