  1. Any business must make investments to improve the value of their product or it won't remain competitive. Cutting payroll after making the second round of the playoffs, failing to secure local TV coverage and now, saying they can't afford to make a move before today's deadline have significantly hurt this franchise. The "Jim Pohlad is cheap" mantra is tired and weak but that also doesn't mean he's always a savvy MLB owner either. His decisions this season preordains continued pathetic attendance results even if Bally's back soon. It almost assures weak playoff options this year too.
  2. Just say no.
  3. Bowden is a clickbait hack. No one should take him, or his ideas, seriously.
  4. I'm no waiver expert (nor want to be), but Balazovic was DFA'd and cleared waivers in February. He doesn't have to clear again does he? I think his extracurricular incident didn't sit well with the Twins FO and don't really expect him to do much in the minors. But you never know.
  5. Suggesting he was a "one-hit wonder" is an insult to ZV's career. He was most definitely an impact player. His opportunity to play all 9 positions in one game is a testament to his versatility. If you saw him play I don't think you'd write a headline like that.
  6. Couldn't agree more. It was a pleasure watching Sonny and I wish we could have seen more. However, I also think St. Louis overpaid and that we saw the best of Gray while he was with the Twins. It did, however, secure them a solid starter early in free agency. (As an aside, their signings of Gibson (mediocre) and Lynn (cooked or nearly so) were questionable IMHO.)
  7. The early signings going on so far this year suggest to me that everything in the free agent market will move faster than last year. It will be interesting to see if that thought holds.
  8. Quixotic. Thank you for attending my TED Talk.
  9. No. And it IS personal. Just stop it. TOTALLY ridiculous.
  10. Decent analysis but, again, unnecessarily hard to follow in spots: Just one example: "However, the .651 OPS over his final 45 games as opponents adjusted to him too numbers down by a significant amount." Perhaps "As opponents adjusted to him last season, his numbers trended significantly lower. Miranda had just a .651 OPS over his final 45 games." I raise these concerns as a fan and supporter of your site. Try running your writing through https://hemingwayapp.com/. Its a great tool.
  11. Donaldson was and is a cancer. A broken down, rabble rousing cancer. The trade was a win just because he and his enormous contract were gone and the Twins gained great payroll flexibility. My only other request is to proofread more carefully: "Minnesota was coming off a 2019 Central Division, where the club set the MLB record for home runs in a season." The word "win" or "championship" is missing after "Division." Errors of this sort happen too often and making reading (as well as comprehension) more difficult than should be the case.
  12. People, people, people. This ain't gonna happen. Correa is a smart young man. So is his agent. They know how to woo people and organizations. This is all posturing to pressure the Mets into closing the deal. Let's move on. FO, time for some BIG moves. Saying the roster so far for 2023 is ho-hum is a gross exaggeration.
  13. Boras is just posturing to close the deal with the Mets. Correa has made it clear he wants to play for the Mets and, clearly, that he doesn't want to play with the Twins. Minnesotans need to get over their inferiority complex (let's face it, we aren't for everyone and we ought to be damned proud of it). Same for being so gullible in soaking up praise that's in the player's best interest while negotiating.
  14. Step back? How much lower do they want to go? Cellar? Subbasement? I mean really.
  15. Where did the Twins finish? Where did the Padres finish? There's your answer.
  16. The front office felt they need to replace Sano? Damned fine job of doing that. This is, straight up, the worst signing in Twins history.
  17. Murph, Cruel? Really? Simple statements of fact. There is ample evidence he wasted his talent. Still the Twins gave him plenty of opportunities. Lighten up Francis. FS61
  18. Sano long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, goodbye. Waste of our time as fans. (Never was one of his.) And, especially, of his talent and potential. Finally. About damn time.
  19. How about trying to generate runs however possible? Bring back the Piranhas.
  20. Your commentary on Baldelli is a good start. But, in addition to the comments already offered by subscribers, I'd add that Baldelli relies far too often on analytics. I buy into their importance in today's game but not to the exclusion of having a sense of the flow of players and the game. Baldelli too often pulls pitchers who are on a roll for the sake of pitch count or bullpen use. I also agree with stringer bell's comments about his failure to make timely and smart substitutions. For the record I totally agree with comments about the lack of sound fundamentals. That's costs runs and runs cost ballgames. Perhaps it is the contrast to the emphasis recent managers placed on fundamentals but nothing irritates me more than watching multi-millionaires playing sloppy defense because they're not called on it. Let's get back to the fundamentals and get these guys more pitching depth as a platform for winning more games!
