  1. 100%. And I feel somewhat vindicated from one of the dozens of short start threats as I was making the case that they aren't just watching the pitcher, they are watching spin rates and all sorts of actual data that could indicate impending implosions. For the purpose of, you know, preventing implosions. This is now confirmed. I don't know what else you would want from a manager here. The starter suddenly lost 3-4 ticks on the ol fastball, he's done in all versions of baseball since 1842. Then you bring your best non-closer relief pitcher for the heart of the order. It didn't work out this time but if they do it differently next time I'll need an explanation. More serious concern is why the 3-4 ticks left. Have we got the data somewhere on what a tired arm from the game looks like? Do they all do this when they gas out? Serious question, I don't know.
  2. Not walking Anderson to setup the double play against a lefty? With Hamilton behind him?
  3. I had wondered the same thing opening day and that's my best theory. I liked it a lot better with both Farmer and Solano available.
  4. I fell like hes a sooner than later guy for this injury. Once the molars stop throbbing its mostly mental and I haven't heard a whiff of hesitation from him. He probably needs to see a few pitches come up and in to be comfortable and he'll be ready. They may use some of the 20 day rehab for roster flexibility as well.
  5. Kiriloff is the .900 OPS guy, don't hate me for optimism. I'm more of a WAR guy if I have pick one number. Give me a couple more 4 WARs and we can go to war.
  6. He had been doing this on purpose with the 3 batter minimum. They did it several times early before the injuries started and was able to get plus matchups with Solano and Farmer off the bench after the pitching change. They slot perfectly for RH hitting and positional flexibility. No telling what situation will come today with both Kepler and Gallo hitting well but that area will be the pitch hit target late in the game. Its a good situation if you have two good RH hitters on the bench, which we don't today.
  7. Levine said something about that in the new diamond cutter’s video thing. April and May for eval, June and July are for changes and after that along for the ride. I thought it was interesting as they normally wouldn’t talk like that, much less in a in house production.
  8. Taylor isn’t going anywhere.
  9. I don’t trust Gordon on the right side of the infield.
  10. I liked it at the time as well so for me it comes down to the medicals. We have been talking about the new trainer on and on about random injuries but the more I think about it it’s just as likely the old guy was fired more for signing off on two injured pitcher trades than the other injuries throughout the season. Those are big mistakes that lead the FO down a blind road. I’m sure it was not only the trainers call but he had to be intimately involved. The FO have to trust their experts at some point. I have no doubt they had whoever they ask about medicals to dig in deep.
  11. I'm not making the case that they shouldn't have known the health risks, in fact I believe they thought they did and were comfortable with them. It is their job to know as you say. Unfortunately I have a tough time believing they knew enough about the injury considering they don't seem to know what wrong even now. Probably part of the new trainer being hired is that they acquired two broken pitchers last year. It's his job to know. Very similar to Paddack this is the market they operate in, it's a level up from Archer and Bundy but similar methods. This is far from a closed book on the trade. A scenario where they find the problem, get a good fix then sign an under market two year deal is not outrageous. Would the trade be a win then? We will find out with Paddack.
  12. I don't know that I'd go that far. If you are calling it a bad trade it's for the injury, not the prospects sent. Those guys were going somewhere else regardless, they were a tier below Lewis, Lee, Martin and Julien. If you knew he was going to have arm troubles kudos to you. Unfortunate result so far but I'd do something similar again this year. I was worried about reoccurrence as we never really got any indication of what the problem was. Let's rest some more and see what happens? Seems like something is wrong in there.
  13. Brent Rooker is on pace for 46 homers. A's on pace for 29 wins. Will report back next Sunday.
  14. If not bullpen help now I'd be looking for more young (A-AA) starting pitching. Help the bullpen from within. From a roster construction standpoint everything I would look to trade for is already in the org. I'd love a RH version of Nick Gordon that could hit, but wait, that's Royce Lewis. Big RH bat at first base, Miranda when Lewis and Farmer are back. RH outfielder? Garlick, Farmer and Lewis and (Buxton). I'll take my chances with Kiriloff over a Joc Pederson rental every day. Lots hinging on injury but there always is. There seems to be a starting pitching surplus right now but looking forward they may need to fill three spots from this year with that depth. They need to backfill that to keep the arms coming. When and if Gordon and Kepler are traded, don't be surprised if it looks like a move for the future.
  15. This is the answer. I believe they will wait to bring him up for a week or two as they want it to be the last time they move him from the 26 man roster. If they believe the wrist is behind him he's the ideal candidate for an extension that buys out arbitration. He'll never have a hearing if the wrist is good. Another reason to wait is that hitting has warmed up in the last week. The gapping hole he would fill is gone. No urgency so take the time to make sure he's right. I have no issue with a week or two more at AAA.
  16. I was really excited to see what he could do fully healthy from the gastrointestinal stuff. It looked like he got over it last year and this would be his first healthy year at full fighting weight. Unfortunately it's not happening for some reason. Castro does everything he does, plus has an option. He's been doing it much better so far as well. That option is likely to get Gordon a slightly longer runway as they won't cut him when Castro can be optioned for Farmer but the reckoning is coming. I wonder what the trade package with both Kepler and Gordon could fetch? If we believe in our high level prospects they will both need to make room.
  17. I said in the series preview post we would be disappointed with 3 out of 4. The reason being that the loss would come in a frustrating fashion. It happens, come back tomorrow and get after it. It does seem like there are several opportunities for Rocco to make a point with an example from today. No reason to do it in public though. Also Kepler being hot is great but not as a reason to prove he is part of the future plans. That ship has sailed but it's slow out of port. There is likely nothing he can do but increase his trade value. It will be a nice win for the FO if he hits well and the return is higher than the off season though. Go Max! I can't see a scenario where they effectively pull the plug on 2-3 prospects to go forward with him.
  18. Lopez will get used to the cold. Correa will start spitting on bad pitches with two strikes. Kiroloff is going to have to rake to force his way into a hot lineup. It's going to be a fun summer. Good to see a win with so many contributors. Good rosters find ways to win and this is a good group.
  19. Comments to this post brought to you by the Audacy delay.
  20. To be honest, that's a pretty good looking lineup, stats and names.
  21. I heard somewhere it was an intentional experiment to get more people leaving work early to come. Probably work better in better weather though.
  22. I believe this to be the case as well. Love to see him have some success and hopefully make some money from a hot run but its unsustainable at this level. I would expect him to have a decent year just batting in the heart of this order. Always liked him and heard good things so I've been following as well. He's got a great sense of humor judging from his twitter. He is on pace to have more home runs than A's wins and I plan to continue tracking it in the run with numbers thread.
  23. I don't know that its kids gloves so much as measured. With a goal of doing it one time only. They probably could have done this without the IL and we would have never known. Polanco is a good early win for this training staff with a seemingly similar methodology. I was initially concerned with Polo because nothing had been done, no procedure etc but really its what I would want from my own doctor. Now is the time to rest, do these strengthening exercises, avoid these motions etc. I had a similar, lower level experience with bad tennis elbow from my golf swing (I have a bad golf swing🤷‍♂️) I wanted the shot like a dummy but followed the docs instructions and cleared it up with movement therapy and rest. A couple golf lessons have kept it from coming back for the most part.
  24. I've run the string out on MLB 2013 on PS3 so I might need to find something new. No one would sign my road to the show character at 46 yo despite being the 24 time reigning MVP. They force retired me. 😞 I have had great luck buying a package on Ebay after a new console comes out. Its usually an enthusiastic gamer selling so it will include 30-40 games, several controllers and add ons etc. Whenever PS6 or what ever comes out I'll probably shop for a 5.
  25. Looks like normal extra patient approach to me. No surprises yet.
