  1. Don't read too much into Soularie’s home run, check the flags in the replay. It was a nasty, nasty weather day in Wichita yesterday. Good for him but it was blowing 25-30 across and out to right.
  2. We spend tons of time talking about who the 26 will be but the reality is that the 40 man is a continual rotation of injured going back and forth. Depth lets us ride the wave. The next wave coming back is Kepler and Gallo most likely followed by Kiriloff and Polanco. We are going to have to send players down that we don't like to send, saving further injury. Somewhere, later in the season, Gordon is going to feel the crunch. We will lose a player we really like somewhere this year. Love to have these problems, even when they are uncomfortable. Its also why I'm not really in favor of going after an ace in the open market. It's easier to do when we have this kind of depth but generally its just too much invested into one roster spot. I'm a huge fan of what they have done with this roster and somewhat glad we are exercising it all now. Obviously, if it keeps on this path we will eventually run out of options. As the designated optimist, I'm looking toward July with everyone healthy and productive. We can dream, right?
  3. If I'da asked ya last week if you would take a split what would you have said? Yup, 10 times over. Now gravy available with good pitchers taking the ball. Love it.
  4. Here is your scouting report, good luck. Sheesh.
  5. Fangraphs has him at $2.3m value already, he might actually make it by mid May! Pretty good.
  6. Its an interesting question but I bet its covered in their contracts and the union agreement. Probably on the lines of baseball related injuries are free to discuss, cancer not so much. Just like the NFL has fairly strict reporting requirements for probable, questionable etc. They aren't winging it, there is big gambling money at stake. Dang it, now i have to go do some light reading.
  7. If he has a track record of health, he gets $300m plus. From another team. 1/3 is pretty close.
  8. How important were they last year? They evaporated quickly. What did the Phillies and the Braves look like down the stretch the last couple years. I guarantee you will enjoy a stretch run more than April cold games. He is my favorite player to watch that I can remember. I just chose to look at it as I'm happy to get what I'm getting with hope for more. I want him to light up October more than anything. It will be electric.
  9. It will be interesting to see how the league adjusts once the scouting reports catch up. The new velo and the ol' reliable changeup will help the transition.
  10. You do realize he's getting paid 1/3 of what he would have got if he was healthy and on the field full time? And on another team? Value proposition is pretty solid here. Anything past what we are getting is the upside of dealing with this minor frustration. To answer the original question, my thought is that when Polanco is ready to hit he comes up and takes this role. The DH can rotate daily, weekly or monthly. Polanco can get ABs while working back to full health and helping the big club. Timing will match up well with Buxton to center. It's April, the goal is to have the roster healthy in September and October. Be patient.
  11. I don't know if you've heard but the Twins have been talking to Mr. Boras quite a bit lately. 😈🤣 Seriously I have been thinking about how he effects the top of the draft. Really interesting to see who he reps.
  12. I agree that is was encouraging but also agree that we shouldn't exactly be crowning him anytime soon. That start gets you bounced from the playoffs. Going from cruising to down 4-0 on the ninth pitch of the third inning blows up a postseason. We should look at several positives but the 3rd inning needs to be a huge learning experience. It wasn't just a bad pitch, it was the going off the rails quickly that lead to the bad pitch as well. Then a non-competitive middle middle fastball to a top 5ish hitter in baseball with the bases loaded is a problem. I knew it was gone halfway to the plate. For those saying it barely got out, I'm saying it might have gone through the wall if it hit. He may have gotten lucky and got a bullet to a glove too. This way the lesson may stick. I may give a little leeway in April if they were trying something or letting him get himself out but at least make the pitch competitive.
  13. I like the term "Grace Period" but that's not what my bank calls it. Hopeful this gets worked out well although I doubt it will be quick. If they aren't negotiating with a Pohlad owned company anymore it going to take a while to sort through and set new values that don't have the in house discounts and get a good revenue model. I suspect their negotiation strategy on the business side is very similar to what we have seen on the player side over the last few years. Patience to the point we think they aren't doing anything then pop up with something pretty good. It hasn't always been a great deal when they run up to the start of season deadline with players but there isn't an real deadline looming here, the games will be on TV one way of the other so the Twins have a strong position. I would expect them to play some hardball.
  14. Castro having an option left makes everything better. Probably part of why he got the spot in the first place, although it was nice he earned it with his play.
  15. Love this movie and will most certainly listen. I umpire this age range and get a chuckle almost every game thinking about the casting in the movie and seeing it play out with almost every team in real life. The casting is amazing 😂.
  16. I thought they were close and I can see both sides of going hard for the catch. When the arm has a good chance to hold to a single or throw someone out it might be a better play than a bad miss that becomes a triple. Does Kepler catch those balls comfortably? Serious question, I don't know.
  17. He made two great throws on the other doubles too. Hopefully the sore right side is just from uncorking the hose too many times. I like him in right with that arm, absolute weapon.
  18. I think the point is that when he swings at that pitch he needs to by trying to murder it instead of hitting it. The change in approach may not require a swing change as much as a mindset change. Accept striking out in exchange for when you swing, swing like you mean it. That will result in more strike outs by nature. Julien is looking special in that he works the count and takes a lot of walks but when he is thrown a strike he swings with intention to do damage. Its the basic summary of everything that frustrated me about Joe Mauer. When you have an opportunity to do damage you only have one swing. Whack it! I like this article in that it is suggesting something that may not have been tried. Its worth a try at this point.
  19. The salary is the least of it, the true cost would be exposing Gordon and loosing him.
  20. I believe both of these statements to be true. If the full roster is healthy, Gordon might have been the odd man out in favor of Castro except for Castro having an option available.
