I said in the series preview post we would be disappointed with 3 out of 4. The reason being that the loss would come in a frustrating fashion. It happens, come back tomorrow and get after it. It does seem like there are several opportunities for Rocco to make a point with an example from today. No reason to do it in public though. Also Kepler being hot is great but not as a reason to prove he is part of the future plans. That ship has sailed but it's slow out of port. There is likely nothing he can do but increase his trade value. It will be a nice win for the FO if he hits well and the return is higher than the off season though. Go Max! I can't see a scenario where they effectively pull the plug on 2-3 prospects to go forward with him.

Lopez will get used to the cold. Correa will start spitting on bad pitches with two strikes. Kiroloff is going to have to rake to force his way into a hot lineup. It's going to be a fun summer. Good to see a win with so many contributors. Good rosters find ways to win and this is a good group.

Twins Minor League Report (4/27): Saints March Home Early
Jocko87 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I don't know that its kids gloves so much as measured. With a goal of doing it one time only. They probably could have done this without the IL and we would have never known. Polanco is a good early win for this training staff with a seemingly similar methodology. I was initially concerned with Polo because nothing had been done, no procedure etc but really its what I would want from my own doctor. Now is the time to rest, do these strengthening exercises, avoid these motions etc. I had a similar, lower level experience with bad tennis elbow from my golf swing (I have a bad golf swing🤷♂️) I wanted the shot like a dummy but followed the docs instructions and cleared it up with movement therapy and rest. A couple golf lessons have kept it from coming back for the most part.- 18 replies

What Can Twins Expect From Alex Kirilloff?
Jocko87 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Long term yes but in the short term is he better than Gallo? My memories are fuzzy. Gallo is probably more valuable in the outfield with his arm but he might also be a gold glove at first.- 46 replies

Takeaways from the Twins-Yankees series
Jocko87 replied to Melissa Berman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
They have a full MLB payroll on the IL, $117m or more than 9 teams in MLB. Bader would also be a starter over Hicks. Safe to say they will look quite different when we see them again. Yes, this was fun for the most part, but leveling up continues.- 31 replies

Edouard Julien’s Triple-A Improvement Checklist
Jocko87 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
This is a very good point and I don't think the reasons for doing it can be positive for Julien. Locking him in at the deepest position in the org when they are trending towards a maximum position flexibility roster raises questions. If and when Lewis and Lee push Castro and Gordon out they will both be ahead of Julien for hacks at 2nd along with the next Kyle Farmer type. And that's assuming Polanco is gone. There is going to have to be another unpopular trade out of this group of SS/2nd base types. This discussion further enforces the need to move Arreaz when they did IMO. Then, don't be surprised if they draft several college SS types again this year so they can reload the trade chips. These ain't your old draft and hoard/develop Twins anymore. -

I'd almost put Gallo at first when they both play. Gallo can be a full plus over there, not too sure about AK. AK is taking reps in the OF at AAA. Better glove at first but that takes the great arm out of the OF. Good problems. I'd also be playing Gallo as the lone LHB against the lefty starter, at least until he cools off. He's not been helpless against lefties over his career and is seeing the ball well. It's nice to have him as the pinch hitter available rather than a Kepler but at least you can get Kep or Larnach a good matchup that way.

Roster Crunch? Who stays, who goes?
Jocko87 replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Agree with both. Not the least bit worried about the risk of Kepler being gone. Too many promising lefty outfielder types waiting for a chance to OPS .693. Even some good righties coming. Unfortunately the other teams know this as well which drives the value down. They may have out thought themselves on this one. I'd do it now as well but they will wait until the deadline unless they get blown away. When AK comes up its probably for good barring new injury. There is just enough time between now and the trading deadline to get comfortable with AK, Larnach, Wallner, Julien or hell even DaShawn Keirsey Jr. rather than Kepler. They don't have a real crunch other than our angst. I've greatly enjoyed Kepler over the years. I watched him in BP at Nationals park shortly after he came up and it looked and sounded different, I was in. I've been pulling for him for years but I'm a Twins fan first and business is business. -
The Minnesota Twins Have Three Elite Pitches

It will be interesting to watch the hitters adjust to the sweeper. It may be hell when its new but we need a few times through the league to be anything but the new hotness.- 4 replies

As impressed as I am by Gallos glove work at first I’m equally disappointed with Solanos glove. Man it’s tough sometimes. I was expecting more and am concerned about putting him elsewhere as well. Lots of posts here and the socials about finally beating the Yankees but we better enjoy it and never mention it again after tomorrow. It feels like back in the dark days when Dick had to stretch for good things to say-he’s on a 6 game hitting streak, against lefties, in day games, after double headers, on the road, against the AL east. Arbitrary wins in arbitrary time periods. They will be a different squad next time but so will the Twins.

Yeah but the throwbacks are out. I wonder if they are going to refund some broadcaster fines.

Ryan, Duran and Lopez are all free agents in 2028. It made me happy just to type that. I don't disagree that they should consider buying out some ARB years but there are going to be several potential candidates for this and it will be hard to do them all.

Can we agree this discussion has nothing to do with anything that has or has not happened on the field in the last 3 weeks? Good? Thanks. I agree with Big Forks. Baseball has too many contributors for the core 4 concept to work. In this example we are talking about the main dude in each group. We talk about the core all the time but we are actually talking about the group of players that are under control for a long term and that we believe are fully in the FO plans for a good while. It's probably actually about 12 guys and we could argue over the 12 for days. I counted Brooks Lee but not Ober or Varland. Why? Hell if I know. My gut says they are much more tradable that Lee. E-Rod could be considered, whoever is drafted #5 could be considered. I gave Christian Vazquez a half point as 3 years for a veteran catcher is an eternity. Fun exercise though.

The Twins Bullpen is Missing a Starter
Jocko87 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Another thing to keep in mind is that he doesn’t project as someone who’s stuff gets better going to the pen. His first time with the Dodgers he was just a really good pitcher who happened to also be good in the pen. There is a good chance he’ll never be that pitcher again. I’m much more comfortable with him figuring it out in the bullpen and being used in positive matchups while he gets right. When that move also frees up a rotation spot for Ober it becomes a lot more tempting.- 32 replies

Tough Decisions Are On Deck for the Twins
Jocko87 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Forever! When it’s not even the start of his third year of major league action. Had he not had some injuries we would know a lot more about him but forever is a long time. I’m fine with sending him down to solve a short term crunch but I don’t think he’s going to prove he can hit breaking balls at AAA. Hit straight ball very much! -
The Twins Bullpen is Missing a Starter
Jocko87 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
While I agree that his track record as a starter is solid it doesn't exempt him from age and performance issues coming back from an injury. I think you are right at about 10 starts but the eye test is kinda telling for where we are heading. In the scenario that he goes to the bullpen it drastically improves the talent level throughout the staff. He's not necessarily just a long guy out of the pen and I think the rotating long guy still exists. If the net of change is Ober and the prospect rotation replacing say, Alcala and Pagan it would be very hard to not make that move for me.- 32 replies

Tough Decisions Are On Deck for the Twins
Jocko87 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I was wondering if they could get someone with a similar skill set that bats right handed and has options. Probably have to throw a prospect in to get the options but they could kill two birds with one stone here. It would cost quite a bit more than just Gordon but the Red's store has a Nick Senzel with three options possibly available. Former top 2 pick, plays all over, hits right handed and has not been good. Great comp for Gordon now that I think about it. I expect Castro to be on an Uber platinum subscription plan between Target and CHS field all year. That's the role he signed up for. I think his first trip will come when AK forces his way up. It would make sense to me that they can absorb a short term left handed overload rather than make that tough call on Gordon for at least a few weeks. After Cortes on Tuesday its another long stretch of righties. They might be able to make this dance work with Larnach and AK for a few weeks after Farmer comes back but once Lewis and Julian start beating the door down something significant will have to happen. -

Roster Crunch? Who stays, who goes?
Jocko87 replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I'd have to think a rehab assignment would be warranted at a minimum. Maybe he can feel comfortable in simulated ABs but I'd hate to take my first swings back in the big leagues after that. That could get close to 60 days total and give a lot of flexibility on the rest of the roster. I have to assume that within a month he will be ready to play somewhere. For the overall roster the crunch is about to get real if Kirillof keeps hitting. Farmers absence eases it a bit but we start running into skillset issues as all the lefty corner bats are looking healthy. I would assume Castro for Kiriloff but after that it might be time for a tough decision on Gordon. I have a tough time keeping up with which long reliever/spot starter is up as I don't much care. Ober, Varland, SWR, Headrick, Winder and a bunch of bullpen names are on auto-rotate based on pitch counts etc. and I don't look at that as a roster crunch per se. We are a few root canals away from a real roster crunch where someone looses a job of the hitter side. -
Noted power hitter Micheal A Taylor. Also noted the back brace/heat pad/massager thing on Correa lower back during one of the home run celebrations. Gotta keep it loose...😑
