Twins 1, Yankees 7: Twins Strikeout in Game 2
h2oface replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Dodger Stadium is endless and LOUD! I mean, I have never witnessed anything like it at a baseball game. If he is batting, it starts as he walks to the plate, and ebs and flows as the pitch comes..... but never stops and gets super loud. Only the Twins and Astros fans seem to have a selective memory.- 27 replies

Short Starts Are Not a Minnesota Twins Thing

I know what we are doing here. We are treading water, waiting for Randy Dobnak to come back and be the anchor of the staff with his long term contract. I don't have to say a thing. The previous commentors said what was needed. Great posts all. Bravo.- 86 replies

How about at least 2 a year. That would be my bar. I mean, developer of pitchers doesn't mean they just get to play because they have done such a horrible job that even Dobnak is given the opportunity because you have no others! "developer of pitchers" means not just a placeholder gets the ball, but very good pitchers in excess. And aces you lose to FA because they were developed and great.

Has Jorge Lopez Been a Disappointment?
h2oface replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Call me Mr Expectation, but I just hoped he would continue his season and perform as he did in the first 4 months. I highly doubted it, as I was aware of his 2015 to 2021 horridness, but that was all mostly as a starter. They gave up 4 pitchers (that I bet most can't name without looking it up, and probably even one of them, and I could only remember one, and only one of them had any innings in the Show) for a guy that has a pretty small sample size as a reliever. He would have been in finding employment in Japan or Korea or in the minors if he had not had good luck coming out of the pen. I think Baltimore knew it was smoke and mirrors, and fleeced the desparate Twins, and we will see even worse in the coming years. Maybe we will get lucky. But it is not looking great so far. Goes to show you how ridiculous the All-Star selections can be. 3 months going into the game and he didn't suck finally and was very good in the new role, and all the sudden Lopez (and Martin Perez, ha!) was an All-Star? I read that Buxton and Correa wanted him. Hmmmmm. But I am surely on the disappointed list. We needed help, and I welcomed it. Too much paganish like hype, and too often similar results....... but ooooooooo, that stuff.............. -

No time for that. When Larnach comes back (out something like June 24th or 5th) in September when ready (his 60 days was up end of August already), you can figure it out. Same with Jeffers (whos 60 days will be something like the middle of September, which is when he is rehabbing for). It was covered in MLB Trade Rumors and other places.

The 60 day moves mean nothing except it is smart and a manuver. Larnach has already been out 60 days and can come back anytime. It just cleared a roster spot for a move. Jeffers won't be ready until the middle of September and the 60 day move doesn't change that. Both these moves just created a roster spot for the time being, and doesn't mean either player can't be back if and when they are ready.

The boys really showed up for national exposure. I just love it when my team just GIVES UP! Especially with national coverage. Good thing we saved Pagan. I hope Correa got his rest. What a bunch of twinkies. And I never call them that. But today, they deserve it. But hey.... it's right in front of them.

All the frustration that insued might have all not happened if Thielbar was not put in to replace Duran, and Duran pitched 2 innings. At 11 pitches, it seemed the better call at the time to me. I know that Theilbar has come through a bunch lately, but he also is still Thielbar. And April is hard to forget.

"I don't like how that entire group ends up on our mound!" That’s what….. nevermind….. Yaaaaa! Get off of our mound!!! (Even, though, technically, it is their mound). Baseball players are sooooooooo tough. Hey.... it's right there in front of us..........

If a someone is 23,24 years old, and has been playing baseball since a child..... and they still are making bad deisions as to the rules of the game and what to do from any base in any situation on the basepaths or in the field, then they just haven't been paying attention. They are not inexperienced just because they are now playing against the best players instead of not as good players at others levels. The rules and moves haven't changed. If they haven't learned the game by that age, they must have a low baseball IQ. They are doing the best they can, they just don't have the brain power to do what is needed in the split second without even more repetition. Some learn with one or two repetions. High IQ. Some it takes a lot more. Lower IQ. Some make the same mistake over and over, Low IQ. Same with learning music. Some can learn the piece and a lot quicker than others, and memorize it quicker and get it from the left side of the brain to the right side of the brain and free themselves to really play the music instead of read the music. High IQ. Some always just read instead of play. All can perhaps get there, but some get there with less repetition. Great jazz guitarist, John Abercrombie, said that the more he played, the quicker it was to learn a new piece and get it from the left to the right side of the brain, were he no longer needed to think and it was just there to add all the emotion and nuance to, or "play".

What's Behind Arraez's August Struggles?
h2oface replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It’s all in front of him -
This in MLB Trade Rumors today, Sept 1 Minnesota Twins Added LHP Austin Davis (previously claimed off waivers from Red Sox) to active roster Selected contract of OF Billy Hamilton from Triple-A St. Paul Corresponding move: Transferred OF Trevor Larnach to 60-day injured list Larnach to 60 day? What does this mean. Finished for the year? Was moved from the 10 day with a effective date of June 24. Then I saw this in another post there: Larnach has been out more than 60 days already after undergoing surgery to repair a sports hernia back in late June, so the move to the 60-day IL is a pure formality. The Twins are still hopeful that he can return this month.

Did you catch the way Watkins coached Gordon to slide into third. Pretty comical. Like him sliding too will help, or Gordon will even see it at that late juncture. Pretty funny. Best view at :14. https://www.mlb.com/gameday/red-sox-vs-twins/2022/08/31/661649#game_state=final,lock_state=final,game_tab=videos,game=661649

Arraez is also hitting .222 in his last 7 games, .220 in his last 15. And noticably slumping since the All-Star break. Should that be taken into consideration at all? Two spans of one or two hits in 20something ABs. He did already homer in this game. It is a tough call, I agree. I think mostly you can't risk a double play in this situation, and if you can advance both runners with a bunt, and have runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out, then I like the odds of not only tying the game, but winning it. Even a slap hit here by Arraez and it may not score a Twin from second the way we run and Watkins coaches third. If he does bunt and moves the runners up, I would not call that taking the bat out of his hands. I would call it using his great bat skills to help the team. (Plus, with his bat skills, maybe he bunts for a hit and bases loaded and no outs, but then we are probably doomed ). Correa would have probably been intentionally walked then, to load the bases and put the double play back in effect (but maybe not), but I like the bases loaded with one out and Miranda hitting a lot better than first and second with one out and Mr. Not Clutch At All This Year Correa hitting, who also has 15 GIDP now, and 14 at the time. Above all else, we need to score at least one run here, and getting a runner to third with one out opens up the chance of scoring on a WP or PB, too. Nobody should be too proud to bunt, and not know how to lay down a successful bunt on a baseball team. I would have asked Arraez to bunt, all things considered, as well, in this situation.

Is Jose Miranda…Underrated?
h2oface replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Tony O. Tops. Others stated in comments already as well. Miranda is having a rookie season we needed, but some of us have witnessed the Twins since the 60s, and Miranda’s rookie season isn’t even close to the best ever.- 31 replies

It never ceases to amaze me that MLB players don't bust it out of the box EVERY DAMN TIME!! WHAT ELSE DO THEY HAVE TO DO? Admire your hit after you hustle your arse off. Nick Gordon should be ashamed. It makes no sense. It is all ego and nothing about the team when you don't hustle on every play, on every hit. Young player's mistake? NO WAY. YOU KNOW THIS IN LITTLE LEAGUE. Baldelli said he didn't even talk to Nick about it in the presser. WHY NOT!?! That is his job! Should have been done immediately. Yes, stop at second after you stand there and loaf out of the box instead of compounding your mistake and making the third out at third, but it is the loafing and ego admiring your drive that made it so you had to stop at second. If he had just run from the get go he could have run to third standing up and not even needed to stop at second. He knew it was going to be fair. No question it would be foul. The only question was if it was out of the park, or off the wall. Instead he was planning the worthless arm pump for glory. You cannot assume EVER!!! RUN YOUR ARSE OFF OUT OF THE BOX! EVERY TIME. ALWAYS. NO EXCUSE. NONE. If Baldelli doesn't have the cojones to do it, someone in the clubhouse needs to ream him a new one. Correa is soooooooo disappointing, Living on past laurels. He cries for help and it is himself that needs to step it up. This is crunch time. He is failing, big time.

3 Disappointing Seasons from Twins' Top Prospects
h2oface replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Paralyzed by hope is an unfortunate place to be. Don't even bring up Cavaco and Javier (signed in the international draft in 2015 instead of Tatis Jr, Soto, Alvarez, Guerrero Jr, Giminez, Chisholm, and more success stories) among all the others mentioned. The three of the OP..... my bet, sad as it may be.... stick a fork in them. All 3.- 43 replies

I thought so, too, and if he at least swung at the fine "mistake", I would have been happy, even if he wiffed. Letting the second pitch go was fine. Borderline early in the count for the called first strike. But to just watch him look at the third strike that was total meat - a four seam at 95 that had no movement... very disappointing., especially with the base loaded.
