Blayne Enlow is Entering a Make or Break Season
h2oface replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Seems like the favorite thing to repetitively say is "young for his level", like that ever matters in the scope of a career. The minors are full of long term players that will never make it and get old there. Young is 20 to 23 for the show. 24 -28/9 is prime time for most that make it. I guess it is a fall back for writing about someone, regardless if it really matters. -

Twins Usher in New Era Where Past Becomes Future

Do the Twins Need to Fix Jorge Lopez?
h2oface replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Orioles traded him and they were in a race for the playoffs as much as the Twins were. To me, that was an immediate red flag. It made no sense, unless the Orioles were aware of something that was not so obvious. He was good for 3 months. But both Buxton and Correa were on record as wanting him and thinking he was wicked. Alas..... he could be a 3 month wonder. I hope not. It is not unusual. Maeda had a great 3 month season in 2020. We will see. -
Is a Splurge on Relief Worthwhile for Minnesota?
h2oface replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think that it is the biggest part of the decline. The FO folks are hired guns, with little loyalty to the teams that hire them... virtual visitors running the show. They are most interested in advancing their personal career, and would leave for the bigger money without remorse. They trade off the fan favorites for prospects continually and fill rosters with other filler visitors for a year or two if they are lucky and the home team becomes predominantly strangers. We end up haveing to root for many we don't even like. It can make even a life long fan become disenchanted.- 23 replies

Is a Splurge on Relief Worthwhile for Minnesota?
h2oface replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Kansas City's World Series winning model of mediocre starters going 6 innings but 3 shutdown relievers closing out the wins didn't last long, but it sure was effective. Now teams' FO's and Managers barely let starters complete 5 innings. Many claim that relievers are not to be paid much and are only good for short term, yet they want Duran to commit to that role and be under paid and tossed out after a couple years as a toasted pen arm. That right there is a reason to try him in the starting rotation and get others to man the pen, and a reason for Duran to push to start to maximize his career earnings.- 23 replies

Jax led MLB in meltdowns, yet is touted as one of our best of 2022. Go figure. What does that say about our pen?

Luis Arraez Earned a 2022 Silver Slugger Award
h2oface replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Looks like the awards platforms are confused, and inconsistent. For GG he is a First Baseman, even though there is a GG for Utility. For Silver Slugger he is a Utility Player, even though there is a Silver Slugger for a First Baseman, And, really, in what type of advanced stat can Arraez be considered ....... a "slugger", It would really be something if he would have won a GG as a DH. That would truly be noteworthy!- 14 replies

Rumor: Dodgers Interested in Carlos Correa
h2oface replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
From MLBTradeRumors today: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/11/dodgers-rumors-clayton-kershaw-gavin-lux-shortstop-carlos-correa.html "It’s worth noting, to at least some extent, that The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal wrote this morning that Dodgers officials harbor some concern as to how Correa in particular would be perceived by fans. It’s been five years since the Astros’ 2017 sign-stealing scandal, but fans have a long memory and still hold plenty of resentment for how that season played out. There are greater public relations implications with a Correa/Dodgers fit than with Correa and another club. Adding my own two cents to the matter, it’d be particularly problematic if both Correa and Turner wind up with comparable price tags — as many expect — and Correa gets out to a poor start. Even setting performances aside, there’d be plenty of fan backlash at the notion of letting Turner, currently popular and productive in Los Angeles, leave in favor of Correa if the two indeed have comparable price tags. Plus, as Rosenthal alludes to, the Dodgers tend to shy away from such lengthy contractual commitments. Mookie Betts is a notable exception, but Freddie Freeman is the only other contract of at least six years given out by the Dodgers under Friedman; Correa and Turner both figure to command lengthier pacts." -
"That likely contributed to the decision to acquire Tyler Mahle at the deadline. He threw 180 innings in 2021 (would've led the Twins by 60), and had completed six or more frames in eight of nine starts for the Reds leading up the trade. " This seems to importantly not consider that Mahle was out and on the IL with a "?tired shoulder?" (or whatever it was and became again during his 2 inning third start for the Twins) between July 2 and July 24 and during that 8 of 9 starts, and only had 2 starts with the Reds post IL before the trading deadline. That seems to be a pretty big gamble, as well as experiment, if one is looking for innings..... and proved to be, as Mahle pitched only 2 innings after he went out the first time with the Twins.

Carlos Correa Officially Opts Out of Twins Contract
h2oface replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree, the end numbers were very good. But don't forget all the mentions and horrific stat lines of the lack of coming through in important at bats (runners in scoring poition and 2 outs for instance) for at least 4 of the 5 months of the season with the pressure on. The stats were padded in the 6th month with no pressure and the team tanking in September, when it really didn't matter what he did. -
Carlos Correa Officially Opts Out of Twins Contract
h2oface replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Carlos who? Just a visitor here. I'd rather have Jeremy Pena on the Twins than Correa. Houston doesn't miss Correa at all. Pena won the GG, and the WS MVP. ..... as a rookie. Yup. And with no baggage. Carlos who? Clean it up. No Sano. No Correa. Moving on....... Spend on the best starting pitchers. -

Rumor: Dodgers Interested in Carlos Correa
h2oface replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I think I agreed that it is possible that the Dodgers may try to sign him. FO people are visitors, and are doing what they do for a salary, not love, and don't really care that much about the fans, for sure. It was "end of story" before your post. You just repeated yourself once more. I got it, and I think other readers did, the first time. Say it again if you like though. It appears to make you feel good to "combat", even though there is no combat. -
Rumor: Dodgers Interested in Carlos Correa
h2oface replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I didn't forget about Boston in 2018, too. And Alex Cora.... again. But the Red Sox (and wasn't there something the Yankees got caught doing, too?) But the Red Sox were not actively still doing the deeds in the post season. And I feel Houston's vile behavior the worst. They were all a token of Manfred Ball, and were let off the hook as players. But the hate for the Astros and Correa in Dodger Staduim continues to be thunderous and non-stop to this day. If you have never experienced it, you have no idea. It was unbelievable even this year. I have never seen anything like it in all my days of watching and attending baseball games. And no, I did not cheer for Correa. I put up with it because I obviously had no choice, and I could reconcile it by telling myself over and over, that he was just a visitor here anyway. Being a Twins fan before many here were even born, and having lived through, not just read about the 60's teams, I was not, and will not be a fan of Correa. I hope he is gone, and money is spent on a pitcher(s). I could have been, but his numerous interviews that he gave after the ruling came down showed his disrespect for the game, and arrogance that turned me off. If he woud have just been reticent and humbled, then I coud have and would have given him another go. You all do what you like. There are other options that won't stink like Dior. And Houston is doing just fine with Jeremy Pena, too. The Dodgers may sign him...... and you all may be totally wrong and they will resign Turner, who's speed offers more to his game and the Dodgers like it. All the hard core Dodger fans I know are vomitting at the idea of Correa, and I know a lot of them, as I now live in LA. But they may get him forced down their throats. It could be very ironic and funny for all but the Dodger fans. You all can disparage me for not liking Correa all you want. I don't care. I don't like having to watch A-Roid comment either, but there you go. Some things mean more to me than just talent and winning ballgames. -
Rumor: Dodgers Interested in Carlos Correa
h2oface replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Price was 2-0 with 13.2 innings pitched in 3 games (2 starts) and a 1.98 ERA. Betts was 5-23 and hit .217 with a double, homer, and 1 RBI. Not really the point about who played though. Comparing a cheating team and Correa to others that didn't is the point, no matter who they were. Correa and the 2017 Astros have a special place in MLB history, akin to the 1919 Black Sox. History will not forget, even though hometown fans have a selective memory. -
Rumor: Dodgers Interested in Carlos Correa
h2oface replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
You are so far off here. None of those mentioned were a part of beating them by cheating. Only Correa, and he did it proudly, and still has no apologies. It isn't about losing fair, that is not the problem, it is about being an unrepentant cheater and serving no consequeces. -

Do the Twins Want a Platoon Behind the Plate?

Nice watching some catchers in the playoffs that don't sit on their butt to catch. Can we get one of those? Or would the new "TwinsWay" make them sit to catch?- 32 replies

Twins Trade Candidate: Austin Martin
h2oface replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
A .268 hitter for a month in his second year in AA ball is a breakout?? How far expectation and evaluation has fallen. Once a writer/scout/FO calls a player a top prospect, they will hang on to it and make concessions for it as long as they can. -
Twins Trade Candidate: Max Kepler
h2oface replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Trade him to Colorado so he can win a batting title like Morneau and Cuddyer. -
These awards are a joke. Arraez? It is like when Dozier actually won a GG. Comical. And have you seen on the official Twins page that Correa wins almost all of them that weren't pithing? What a suck up. If Correa would have been producing in the first half of the season ... then we might have been up to 20 games over .500 instead of peaking a 11. Total suck up joke. Awards are worthless and all about markenting and not about actual important performance, especially in at bats that really counted.
