  1. How many that get moved off SS, for whatever reason, whether young or older, ever make it back and stay there? I can't think of any. There are probably a few, and some act as a sub because of injury or suspension or whatever, but they never really return to man SS for the long haul.
  2. Interesting group of attendees. Gordon is probably wondering if he is even going to be on the team as they keep adding players that seemingly replace him. Did Watkins blow any calls during the event? I sure hope they get someone else this year to be 3rd base coach. I wish Ron Washington would come home.
  3. My understanding was it was an experiment to limit innings as he ramped back up from injury. His injury had to do with throwing the ball, he just happened to be starting at the time. He wants to start, and has expressed that politely several times. Not giving him the opportunity to do so will drastically limit his career earning potential, and he knows that. I hope he gets that chance this year or next. Good thing Santana got the opportunity when he started in the pen to limit innings. What the FO has believed in regards to pitchers hasn’t worked out so great.
  4. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/01/twins-notes-rotation-ober-arraez.html Part of this more perfect world would be if the FO actually developed pitchers, like I understood at hiring, was their specialty. The complete projected starting five for 2023 were acquired by trade, and so was Paddack. SWR, and Duran. There are more, too. 6 years in, and they trade their best developed (Graterol) or highest potential pitchers from draft (Chase Petty), or don't draft them when they have the chance (Hunter Greene). Hard to develop them when you don't have them. It seems the other teams they are trading with are doing the developing of pitching prospects better than our guys. If they developed their closest, or best prospects, instead of trading for arms that are known injury gambles, and only middle of rotation pitchers, perhaps they wouldn't be in a position where a trade like batting champ fan favorite Arraez for oft hurt and a gamble like Lopez makes sense to them (but not necessarily the majority of keen fans).
  5. We had that many games Baldy let the pitcher complete, and the pitcher could complete, 6 innings? Not that it is a lot, but it still surprises me.
  6. They also like to trade the highest upside pitching prospects for quesionable arm health, instead of developing them. Graterol was MLB ready, and developed in-house all the way from a MiLB free agent!
  7. Similarly, does that mean if Lopez gets offered an extension this year, and he wants to wait and bet on himself for a while (waiting is not necessarily a no, especially if the offer is too low in the players opinion), that he needs to be traded at the deadline with 1 1/2 years on his contract left, like Berrios and Pressly?
  8. Yes. Very possibly. Especially if Correa hits the first half of the season like he did in 2022, and his defense continues to degrade from 2021 as it did last year. Or he is injured. He didn't make the team last year. He has made it twice - in 2017 and 2021. And there is also Bobby Witt, Jr., Bo Bichette, Wander Franco, Tim Anderson...... to name a few, that could be the picks depending on the first couple of months, as flawed as the all-star selections are. Pena will get a lot of carry over mileage from his post season play last year. Here is what one fantasy rating thinks, which, like my opinion, doesn't really mean anything, necessarily, either. https://www.fantasypros.com/mlb/rankings/al-only-ss.php
  9. They should just call him a right handed outfielder, instead of a right handed “hitting” outfielder. Always good to trade away pitchers so you don’t have to develop them, especially those pesky flame throwing lefty’s. .
  10. Get the whole gang back together, eh? I don't get it. Minnesota doesn't have to be that nice. Better hide the trashcans. Maybe get compactors for the dugout. Plus, Gurriel comes with even more baggage. https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/10/28/560615006/astros-yuli-gurriel-suspended-for-racist-gesture-but-not-until-after-world-serie
  11. It was just a joke. A bad one, I guess. From an even to an odd number....... 17,,,,, that's odd.
  12. A lot of discussion about Arraez not being a lock to stay on the field. Seriously? It seems to be a FO trait to ignore that. Lopez is of the same ilk. He has missed significant time in his career with a pair of right shoulder strains and a rotator cuff strain. But he finally pitched a full season in 2022, throwing 180 innings across 32 starts. Many of the pitchers that they have signed or traded for came with known questions about health, and several are out for significant time as the bet was lost. Do I have to name them all? And our Twins were the team that ignored and bet on Correa to the tune of at least $200 million that he will not be a problem when even a guy like Steven Cohen, who throws money around with seemingly reckless abandon, bailed on him. Arraez hit .316/.375/.420 in a career-best 144 games in 2022. He was out only 18 games. I bet they sat Correa about that just to let him rest. Who is a "lock" to miss no games? Not many. Maybe none. I hope Lopez can stay healthly for at least 2 years, as that is a year less control than Arraez had left. And we need him to excel and not blow up immediately like the other Lopez..... and Mahle and Paddack. At least Maeda lasted the short 2 month season before his known instability in his arm started giving him trouble in 2021 and then gave out and we lost a good year and a half, leaving only 2023 left. Yep. We always hope the players will stay on the field.
  13. Carew won with .318 in 1972. That's pretty close. Mauer .328 in 2008. Arraez still has some time as he is only 26 for 2023 season.
  14. Another right handed #3 to pull in the 4th or 5th inning. 2 more redundant prospects that can't replace any of the hits for years, if ever. But hey.... we have a nearly 40 million dollar (with his salary and bonus share for the year) shortstop with a scandalous cheating resume, a 10 million dollar strikeout king instead. You gotta love that. Another Lopez to blow up on the Twins. Lopez squared. I can't wait. Falvey is just so desparate to make his mark. The pitching experts are still treading water with a team of #3s after 6 years.
  15. “As the trade details came in, though, the trade was much more favorable to the Twins than anyone imagined, with the Twins not throwing in prospects of their own, but instead receiving multiple prospects.” Really? Anyone? Some, like me, don’t drink the Kool-aid. A batting champ for a number 3 starter, right handed starter at that, who had a number 5 second half, and a couple totally redundant hope and dreams? And a fan fav! And that is a good deal? I didn’t even drink and I have to get rid of what just came up out of my mouth. The pic is what it is like to comment on this site on my iphone
  16. Just what we needed. Another Lopez to tank. Too bad these guys that can’t produce star pitchers can’t trade for them either. Another #3 for a batting champ. SMH.
  17. Ober goes from 16 to 17? That's odd.
  18. Oh, I am sure that is the plan, alright. Definitely the $200 million+ plan. Absolutely.... the plan. Like I said..... very optimistic.
  19. It would be nice to have a DH that actually hits..... instead of a Sanchez or a Sano or a Gallo or a . After all, it is Designated Hitter, not Designated Strikeouter.
  20. Folks are being very optimistic about how long Correa will be able to or be the best option at short. 2022 already started the decline, perhaps, if 2021 was considered his peak.........
  21. “a ragtag combo of Nick Gordon and Josh Winder” Nick Gordon says thanks for the love.
  22. Even more kudo's for catching it! For all the mice and men!
  23. Twins and other teams can be soooooo cheap about an extra million, or half million, or couple hundred thousand to the controllable players, even when they deserve a lot more.... just because they can. I mean, look what they will pay Pagan!!! Just pay Arraez his little bit more that he wants, already. It's not like they have to pony up 30 million or so......
