There are places that talk of the importance of pitch sequencing . That factor seem to be important to pitching yet are not accounted for in pitching metrics. That could also be an explanation of why ERA and FIP can be so different. Command also comes into play. Outcomes vary as the ball count goes up The lack of command could also play a part as the Twins stressed not walking batters could lead to more hittable pitches. If the article contained that information, my bad.

Brock Stewart has pitched in 34 games at the mlb level the last 2 years. That is 34 more games than he pitched in the 3 years prior to that, what makes people think it is going to be different? Topa had one overworked year after years of injuries and ends up injured. Funny how that woks. Yet with all the access to analytics this front office doesn’t seem to track it. The last several years seems like the Twins have been near the top in days on the d.l. When the frugal franchises do not consider days lost on the dl that should be a flag. It is not a checkered one. Tonkin would be the durable low leverage guy, he can eat a couple innings and not miss a week recovering. He had a minimal contract last year. 1 million per b ref. He was never out of work,, bur was well traveled. I do not know why anyone would think he should get that high of raise. Not that I begrudge him the money. One should respect the work and persistence of Tonkin to make it back to mlb baseball and thrive.

Perhaps the owners of the site need to make a rule that the bloggers can’t write about teams that existed before they were born. WAR as a criteria for MVP. You can have the opinion that is the most important thing, perhaps it will be someday if there is ever any agreement on defensive metrics. MVP is a baseball writers award,. The blogger seems oblivious to the rules that have been in place since the beginning. From the writers association website The ballot states Dear Voter: There is no clear-cut definition of what Most Valuable means. It is up to the individual voter to decide who was the Most Valuable Player in each league to his team. The MVP need not come from a division winner or other playoff qualifier. The rules of the voting remain the same as they were written on the first ballot in 1931: 1. Actual value of a player to his team, that is, strength of offense and defense. 2. Number of games played. 3. General character, disposition, loyalty and effort. 4. Former winners are eligible. 5. Members of the committee may vote for more than one member of a team. You are also urged to give serious consideration to all your selections, from 1 to 10. A 10th-place vote can influence the outcome of an election. You must fill in all 10 places on your ballot. Only regular-season performances are to be taken into consideration. Keep in mind that all players are eligible for MVP, including pitchers and designated hitters. That third criteria is the subjective portion. Stomp your foot and complain, thems the ru

Here, is one of the many spots that say the 2020 signees will be eligible Tuesday, November 19: Teams must add eligible minor leaguers to their 40-man rosters by 5 p.m. CT or risk losing them in the Rule 5 Draft. College players drafted no later than 2021 and high school players drafted no later than 2020 are Rule 5 Draft eligible this year, as well as players signed internationally no later than 2020. You still have done nothing to disprove that the front office is any good at signing international free agents. Rodriguez and Servino (since designated) are the only 2 that have even been protected that were signed by this regime that I know of. That should not be an acceptable level

The couple that I looked at on the list were awe inspiring. It takes a lot of hubris to think they would be helpfull for the team. Helman and Kiersten are still both on the 40 man. There are your cheap speed and energy. They could do worse than the listed players, but they have not yet had the chance to prove it. Had the FO thought they were not better than their September call up they would have been designated.

Speed and energy guys are of no use if they don’t get on base. They are under more pressure to hit, not less

A six man rotation does not change bullpen usage. The bullpen could not sustain 550 innings as a 7 man group.

It is a vote. The vote is by the manager and 3 coaches from every team. They cannot vote for their own players. Given Guerrero’s season it probably only took a few votes to be in third place. Also as Santan probably knows a lot of coaches and managers a few more might have voted for him out of the friendship vein.

Nobody Wins: The Jorge Polanco Trade
old nurse replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
With the seasons the MLB players had one would say the Twins lost nothing by trading a 2b. The team gained medical bills for pitchers. That should surprise anybody given the player histories. I think the trade was part of the reason they went in a different direction with Levine, but it took a while to figure out how to not make it look like a negative he was removed. Maybe in that respect then the Twins won the trade.- 66 replies

Wallner has a career BABIP of .359. Last year his line drive percentage exit velocity, hard hit percentage, barrel percent and sweet spot percent were all above league average. He is league average in speed. If those numbers were not flukes there is no reason to expect a precipitous drop in BABIP

Byron Buxton played 89 games in CF, good for 22 most in baseball. I guess to the voters actually being on the field matters.

Looking through Sportrac’s list of free agent left hand pitchers who made less than .5 million about the only name that had a somewhat decent season was T.J. McFarland. Looks like it is minor league signing types.

Noah Miller may end up making Kyle Farmer look like a silver slugger.. The trade really doesn’t deserve a grade. Margot was never a pinch hitter type. His career pinch hitting was in the .110 range. Take out the pinch hitting and he had what would have been a usually Margot season. Maybe Margot had Tommy Herr disease. There was no way the Twins could have tested for that. The trade would rate as an F only because there were other options for a RH OF bat. That were cheaper and better suite for the role. In a budget crunch year that money could have been much better spent. Rortvedt couldn’t hit for the Twins nor the Yankees. Some players it takes the right coaching. A repeat of this year would give Tampa an A for their trade. However for the Twins to get rid of Donaldson they did have to give up someone with potential. The Twins gave up on a player they thought they could not develop further. If you include the Garver trade where they got the utility player to trade the trade gets 3 grades. An A for the unloading, an F for player development as Henriquez may only have a ceiling of a middle reliever and not a starter. The third grade is another F as it once again showed how willing they were to dump Ryan’s players
