  1. The author does a fine job of laying out what these player won’t be selected. 1.5 WAR players are useful to winning only when the team has 3 players capable of 4 war if the thought was any of the position players were capable of 2+ WAR they would be protected. Wells shows why oft injured pitchers are a bad investment. They are good trade bait to get AAA outfielders
  2. The numbers seems to vary by what they need yo be at the time.
  3. 27 Yankees won it all with only one decent bullpen arm. See, it can be done Of course the dude pitched 213 innings
  4. 4th worst record in baseball, or the 9th worst record in the AL is no different.
  5. Corner outfielder, sub par bat 3 out of the last 4 seasons he was with the Twins. The one season he had the hot late season surge. You wonder why he wasn’t trade and you complain on over valuing. Bennintendi had a better bat. When KC traded him they got 3 organizational fillers. There was no Va value to be gained by trading Kepler
  6. $70 million in upgrades, to the scoreboard. They have done other upgrades to the park, loss of television revenue, no fan income 2020, limited 2021, losses in sponsorships, they paid everyone during the shutdown where other teams laid off. Does that total however any millions they claim.? Maybe. Baseball courtesy of the Wilpons and McCort has rules against a team borrowing against a team for outside reasons. That is why you or others can’t prove the money was spent outside the Twins
  7. This is why they buy into sports franchises https://www.propublica.org/article/eight-takeaways-from-propublicas-investigation-of-how-sports-owners-use-their-teams-to-avoid-taxes
  8. Prove the money was used for private expenses, prove that spending $80 millions would pay for itself. You can’t do either.
  9. The term power bat is a nebulous term. Does it mean 30+ hr, 25 HR. Slugging% > some number. Eye. Test? Potential or actual past production?
  10. Yup, people will think what they will regardless of the information.
  11. Welcome to TD. You probably have not noticed that any minor league layer here that is under the average age of the level they are at that statistic gets mentioned. It is either a wow type thing or why they are having difficulty at that level. Considering that players are usually assigned levels by talent it should be meaningless. The same wow bit is not applied at the major league level. My post was sarcasm. Two people even acknowledged it as such. The clue was mentioning the old players and the obvious math error that three players retiring would drastically change the average age of well over 600 players who play at the major league level every year.
  12. The experiment in St Paul probably gave them the ballpark number for pitch counts on 4 days rest. The pitchers would stay reasonably stretched out to shift to starter when injuries happen.
  13. Statistica said that gate receipts for the Twins in 2024 were. 81 million. The last revenue per fan I saw put the spending per fan under 60. Licensed merchandise, I do believe the profit goes pretty much to the licensee, MLB. Read that when some one was writing about Ohtani to Dodgers and jersey sales not benefiting the team. Sites that used to publish this data reminded people yhat how much sales tax is paid is a public record
  14. One could also say that spending an additional 80 million would have only increases the debt by 80 million. The value would not increase because the franchise would be going backwards on the balance sheet. To pay for that 80 million would take an additional 3 million fans
  15. Hoskins is so many years from glory days that it makes the Gallo signing seem logical Lowe hit well in Texas, was traded for a reliever, pouted and hit poorly in Washington, Then was back to baseline with Boston’s. They chose not to resign. An OPS+ of. 121. Somehow I suspect there is an attitude issue there. If there are no takers for his services it would still be a roll of the dice for what you would get o’hearn might be the best but most costly option I don’t know much about etc Is he related to e.e cummings, who. Is now obscure enough that AI wasn’t to misspell his name?
  16. Ya think this might silence the critics that Falvey gives away talent?
  17. So your friends are no different than the many TD posters,. Bet they said the same with Bloom as well
  18. Why would you have a notion that anyone is going to sign him?
  19. Of the 20 who caught the most games according to fangraphs, and the 20 on the bottom 18 were over 30. 12 were signed as internationals. 15 were drafted after 2016
