  1. Tom sold the car dealerships. I guess he went home on that one. So now there is a hyperbole spinner talking to a crowd that is unlikely to see it for what it is. Given his statements on payroll I would assume going big is taking a risk on a high ceiling player vs a high floor. I don’t know what he knows about baseball, but if he is going to run the business I would guess he will have to learn something. Jim, who controlled the money, did not know anything more than what Falvey told him. He and Joe took the fall for that
  2. 297 people listed by mlb.com front office page 79 people listed as minor league staff elsewhere on that site 12 coaches and manager for the major league team 26 mlb players 28 each for AA, AAA teams 30 A+ 35 A however many they want for rookie league say 35 that. Would be about 500 people. The average team has 175 scouts you are off by at least 100 😂
  3. As I searched for a better Falvey picture for you the only decent picture I could find was from when he was hired. That 30+ pounds must be the result of Falvey at the training table and thus we know where the Twins debt came from
  4. You jump to assumptions in determining relative profitability CBT at the end of the year. Gives what was spent on players, not including what they have to give all of the different government agencies. Someone might come close to guessing travel costs. From there it is a pure guess
  5. I knew who he meant when he responded i could point out his revisionist history. Bill Smith was the GM who an acquiesced to managers without thinking. And let Gardenhire’s dislike for Hardy initiate a horrible trade
  6. Forbes can figure out what they take in by sales tax data., television contract. They know what they spend on players. They can only guess at expenditures and corporate sponsorship income.
  7. No information nor understanding the complexities of the situation stopped some people from posting
  8. Thanks to the train wreck that was the McCourts, in 2012 MLB banned borrowing against the team I do believe it was the LA Times back then. LA Times has been behind a paywall the last few years, so I did not go drag them up. I was working nights then, and sometimes there wasn’t a whole lot to do at 3 AM
  9. Kelly retired before Ortiz was non tendered. Try again. Terry Ryan said that he did not tender him because with his frequent injuries they did not want to lose an arbitration hearing.
  10. Understanding what is in there shows why the Twins had to get investors. As San Diego tried to borrow their way to contention, the bill came due. They have had to retrench.
  11. Kelly did not seem to suffer fools gladly. Hunter, Span, Jones, Guzman, Koskie and some others all developed on his watch. No problems with team guys.
  12. https://www.mlb.com/twins/team/front-office Between the listed Executive Board, Baseball Operations and Administration I could see a cost that is easily half the player payroll numbers. Then there are the other 200 people
  13. https://registrationz.mlbpa.org/pdf/MLB Basic Agreement 2022-26.pdf Way down in amendment 22, somewhere around page 250 there are the rules for clubs being in debt. MLB doesn’t like teams carrying too much debt.
  14. To trade for Mayo is to think the Twins can get out of Mayo what Baltimore could not. To trade for him would be to send them back players that are similar to that situation. Pick a pitcher, the Twins have quite a few that meet the criteria, pick a few lottery tickets and make a trade.
  15. The article clearly stated that it was for the 2024 season. The author is a 20 year member of the BWAA. His background was easily found on the site. When you can’t argue the message, try to be accurate about the messenger.
  16. The front office staff should be worried. Falvey said that when he got there the front office was lean. Look for a return to that. If Falvey can’t do that someone else can. The top had a GM and an assistant GM. Now there are 5 people doing the same job. The sales department is. Huge, the attendance is not. A leaner team might be worth a decent RP What went wrong? The answer is in part 2fold. The draft did not produce for years. Players who were unlikely to maintain a high level were not sold high.
  17. That was from a guy who had sources from years of covering the Pirates
  18. https://www.dkpittsburghsports.com/team/site-stuff/feed?page=0&filter=ARTICLES&content=pirates-losing-money-bob-nutting-investigation-mlb-dk For all of the people that don’t believe your Pittsburg numbers Baseball America has the numbers for Atlanta, if people wish to look that up
  19. The only thing really new is they are giving Tom Pohlad a job
  20. Good luck for him. It is a step up from the KBO, though he could be placed in the JPL minor league
  21. When Outman was acquired they sent him to AAA and called him up only after Roden was injured for the season. He matched up with Stewart’s salary. The Twins did not need anymore really long shot players to go with him, so they just to a flier on outman. The flier crash landed. They would probably try to DFA him late to stash him in AAA
  22. When I was a kid there was a rich guy talking to my dad. He was a wheeler and dealer in many areas. He was grousing a little bit on not making any money on a deal. He then stated “But I knew I wasn’t going to make any money on them”. So I asked him why he did it. His response stuck. “Not everything you do is just for the money” Another guy who was a land broker said pretty much the same thing.. a house flipper said the same thing The other thing is that even if they are no taking a profit, they are still making money. There are articles out there explaining it.. Contact you knowledgeable tax attorney. Balmer saved 77 million in tax money owning the Clippers it is a world most don’t live in.
