  1. I just remember it being quoted during his career at Wigley. Stats change over time and I do not remember how much was tainted by his pitching toward the end of his career. At that time you could get night Cubs games up here on WGN(it was clear channel, same as St. Louis). St. Louis was more interesting with Harry Carey and Jack Buck.
  2. Actually Brock, the poster boy was Fergie Jenkins. Would like to see the stats on him to refute this. He pitched in Wrigley, so stats should be telling.
  3. Molitor seems to have his favorites, that is an issue. TR may have to have a sitdown and tell Paul that it is time to let the youngsters struggle for the future. If Molitor cannot buy into this, it may be time for Dougie.
  4. This is the old theory. Bert Blylevan, Jack Morris, Fergie Jenkins all gave a lot of home runs, most them them in their prime solo shots. They got beat with men on base, and when ahead by several runs, made sure they did not walk anyone, so some players got a good pitch and drove it out. Data would be more telling if run differential when home runs where hit was included.
  5. Right now hitting is the issue, not pitching. Give it a month, until a couple of contenders feel the need to find another starting pitcher and then do your trades. Forcing this will get you nothing. Hopefully this will be done by midsummer.
  6. They are probably a couple of weeks from bringing up the youth, but at the currant pace, I believe it will happen before the end of May. Problem is to find trading partners, so value can be obtained from the pieces the Twins trade, not just given away.
  7. I expect Polanco to be the defensive replacement to Nunez at third. Nunez will start now because he is hitting well, but is more of a 2 - 4 days a week role player. I expect Polanco to play 5 days a week, because if he does well, it gives the Twins many more options(including trading Dozier if the right offer comes along). I guess it may be 50 - 50 if he sticks this time and maybe forces TR to make a trade. I also expect that Rosario may head to Rochester for a month or two if he does not start hitting and maybe Kepler gets his chance
  8. Pressly might be another major find, at this time too early to tell. I agree that Fien's chances of being here in August are less than 50%. Way Changois has started in Chattanooga it may be earlier than later. Extra pitching is not a bad trade chip to have. If the Twins fall out early, I can see a big bullpen makeover by midseason. It is too early to tell, so enjoy.
  9. Regression was always possible with this team. Pitching has outperformed what was expected, even here. Team could well still be around .500, and this would be what I expected, with the push up coming next year.
  10. You hope Twins can get some blowouts, so the pitch appearances go down. Otherwise you need Perkins back or get another reliever up(one of the kids, hopefully). It may be both, if this is how the team is constructed and the year goes.
  11. Still back to the same topic. Pitching wins. Twins bullpen has not been good enough vs the league. If you look at the box scores the team leading after 6 is winning in the 90% range. Twins have had 4 games in the range(tied or leading) and lost all 4. If this continues another week, bring up a group of the fireballers. \ I would also like to see Dougie manage here, nothing against Paul, but just the fire and holding players responsible would help.
  12. Saw a game against that club, they were very dead even in wareups. Have not seen this from the Twins yet.
  13. My guess is for better or worse with the hitting issues Bruno would be first. It took like 20 straight losses to get Cal Ripen Sr. fired in Baltimore. Last thing for the GM is change and feeling the new GM would have to make trades, some of those trades could be very bad,
  14. I would like to give Kepler 2 weeks and about 12 games to see how he does. If he does well, by all means send one of Rosario or Buxton down for a while. If not it was only temporary. We need to know how some of these players do.
  15. I am much more concerned with the hitting than the pitching. Scouts and pitching coaches of other teams had the winter to look at the Twins. What you are seeing now is the book on Twins hitters and major league good pitchers can pitch to the book. Twins hitters are going to have to make adjustments or this is going to be a long year. Future of Twins going forward is to see how the kids react and how adjustments are made. Less than 2 runs a game is not going to cut it, and we have not see a club with above average starting pitching yet(Baltimore and KC are both rated in the lower third). Hang on.
  16. From what I have heard, Tonkin has a straight fastball, if you look at the sucessful relievers, all of their pitches have movement, most of it late. Not worried, case closed.
  17. It also shows that what signing international players can do. Many of the top systems went heavy above cap in international signings. This hopefully will be addressed in the next CBA.
  18. Baseball has changed over the past 5 years, getting ahead and doing everything possible to get ahead is very important. Most of the clubs now have close to shut down relief pitching from the 7th inning in, if not the 6th. Looking through the box scores there were about 2 runs scored against the team ahead(not counting the Phillies) from the 6th inning in. (This is against bullpen pitchers). So I do not see bunting early to get a run or two to be such a bad thing. Starting pitching is still the weak spot of all this and getting ahead early is the easy way to win.
  19. It appears that some did not notice the 3rd Base market, as Todd Frazier(who is a much better option than Plouffe), brought more salary relief than market value. Trade market for Plouffe looked to be salary relief or 2 lottery tickets. Winning the Park lottery was not expected, but you can never have too much talent in your organization. It will sort out this week(by an unexpected trade) or by the trade deadline.
  20. It would be great if Kepler tore up the International league. Twins could then trade Rosario or Arcia and maybe Stewart and another piece to the Padres for Tyler Ross. That would be a wonderful use of Twins new found depth. We do not want Kepler to stay down too long if he is raking.
  21. Dan Runzler, he has stuff and has been good before, also he is another lefty. Give up on Tonkin, he will never make it.
  22. I actually am hoping Dan Runzler makes it, he has stuff and with Abad will handle the left handed chores just fine. Saw the other day that Perkins FB was up a little(I think I saw 93). Some pitchers just take spring training to get up to speed. I think the Twins are waiting until very late to try and sneak Tonkin through waivers(He should be toast). Need to promote the better players and majors leaguers can hit a 96 straight fastball.
  23. Sano will be the next 1B. Kepler will be an outfielder
  24. Sano will be the next 1B. Kepler will be an outfielder
  25. I would bet there was a buyout.
